GettinLost 05-18-2007, 12:05 AM :getlost: Thanks Carlton and Damon for 30 minutes of telling us what we ALREADY KNOW! It should keep us warm at night during the 8 MONTHS WITHOUT LOST!!!
wsprag 05-18-2007, 12:18 AM This episode was just a summary of some of the things that have happened in the show to this point. But, I'm not complaining, I knew it wouldn't offer any insight. None of the other "specials" have.
Noeland 05-18-2007, 12:19 AM I find it interesting the way they talk about the aspects of the story that some people really mull over and spend tons of time picking apart, but yeah, no answers in this thing that we didn't already have, but I wasn't expecting it to be otherwise.
Carlo210 05-18-2007, 12:27 AM About "Lost: The Anwers"
Aimed towards Damon Lindelof and Carlton Cuse.
I liked 'the answers', but one subject stuck out to me and left me tangy (but not sour).
I'm not too fond with the fact that you guys dodged 'the numbers' as a part of hurley's bad luck. Sure, the numbers weren't the real cause for hurley's bad luck, but so many viewers think they are. Not just that, but almost everyone holds the numbers in high regard as one of LOST's most apparent mysteries.
You can't dodge the numbers for much longer because viewers still have them in their head and await a resolution.
I know you guys don't want to mention them again because they aren't vital to the storyline of LOST (they are linked to dharma and Valenzetti, which is quite a ways off from LOST), but they really need to be summed up in a conclusive and 'casual' fashion by Marvin Candle in a dharma tape. That's all that is required.
I've made my peace with the numbers and I've said adieu to them after learning they aren't one of the show's mysteries, but pretending the numbers aren't a huge part of season 2 and also Hurley's life will make the show conclude with many fans criticising why certian mysteries were left unsolved.
Sure, the LOST experience explained the numbers, but you and I know it's not a viable medium for something like them to be explained exclusively.
I'm sure you are aware that bringing the numbers up again in the show may start a rebirth of the curiosity over the numbers, which is likely why they've been excluded from LOST from season 2 onwards. I'm also sure that you are aware that, if executed properly and carefully, you can resolve that 'mystery' in a humble fashion.
Shimmy-ing the numbers in will both solve the anticipation (and anger) revolving around the lingering 'numbers' mystery and extend the respect you garner as the writers of LOST for not 'throwing out' what the fans take as such a big, defining essence of LOST's mysterious construct.
---
The numbers need to be brought into the show once last time and resolved in a simlar fashion as in the Lost Experience (which gave us an absolutely satisfying resolution).
My thoughts,
Carlo C.
kaliberknl 05-18-2007, 12:31 AM There was no mention of Nadia...
urbandruid 05-18-2007, 12:53 AM C'mon, no awesome banjo solo? At least Damon was wearing pants (I think...)
Cocophone 05-18-2007, 03:53 PM I think the numbers are important to the story. I didn't follow the lost experience. Was it every explained the reason why the nut job from the mental hospital was repeating the numbers? Was that guy from Dharma? Was that guy ever on the island? Why did that guy move to Australia?

I can answer your questions, the first question I'm not sure about what happened to him around the numbers, the second question is no he is not Dharma, the third question is also no he was not on the island, and the fourth, that was another guy they were friends and the guy that moved to Ausralia was from there he probably lived there, going back to the first question alot of bad things happened to the second guy maybe Lenny(the guy in hospital) snapped after Sam(the second guy) killed himself.
I was unimpressed by this episode, mind you I wasn't expecting much, nice to know certain things for sure, I guess, but I was slightly upset by the lack of number discussion, they are all I live for.
I find it interesting the way they talk about the aspects of the story that some people really mull over and spend tons of time picking apart, but yeah, no answers in this thing that we didn't already have, but I wasn't expecting it to be otherwise.
I wasn't expecting much on the answer category either.
There was no mention of Nadia...
Or Eko, or Ana-Lucia, or Libby. It bugs me when these recaps pretend certain characters never existed. But what struck me was appearances of Walt and Shannon and not Michael or Boone, making me suspicious of who might show up in the finale. Mentioning the discovery of the hatch without Boone strikes me as just plain wrong.
I guess there was no mention of Nikki and Paolo, but for some reason that didn't bother me. And of course no new meaningful answers were provided, but I wasn't expecting any.

I felt the same about leaving out Boone, when he was such a big part of Locke's story in S1.
And you make a good point--are those who were shown also going to be in the finale?
When I saw that the show was titled "The Answers" I knew it was tongue-in-cheek, and that we wouldn't learn anything new.
Still, although I can't say I hated it, I doubt I'll watch it again.
