View Full Version : What Kate Did
MrMax 05-18-2007, 06:28 PM In Lost: The Answers, Darlton said that Kate blew up the house her step-father was in. I thought the man in the house was her real father. Did I miss something?
Also, there never seems to be any mention of her bank robbery and the people she shot there. Was she ever accused of that?
belshep 05-18-2007, 06:36 PM I heard the 'step-father' comment and was confused too. I've been under the impression that Sam admitted that Wayne was the biological father.
Transcript from What Kate Did:
KATE: Why didn't you tell me, Dad?
AUSTEN: Tell you what?
KATE: I was making a scrapbook -- a surprise for your birthday. So I called one of your COs to get some pictures of you in uniform. The pictures that he sent me had dates on the back -- photos of you in Korea up until 4 months before I was born. Why didn't you tell me that Wayne was my father? Why?
AUSTEN: I didn't tell you because I knew you'd kill him. And your mother loved him. You were 5 years old. I wanted to take you along with me. She wouldn't let me.
DarkReality 05-18-2007, 06:36 PM They do explain all of that... so yeah you missed something. Unfortunately I can't remember that whole story arc for the life of me. Sorry.
caforrest2047 05-19-2007, 02:02 AM For most of her life she thought he was her step father so maybe that's what they meant

UMM who did she shoot??? I dont recall her killing anyone but Wayne. The only person I can think of that she shot was Jason the Bank Robber and that was in the leg
goinwest 05-19-2007, 05:04 PM They never went into the whole bank robbery thing.. that part.. why she wanted the airplane? just because it belonged to Tom? (was that his name?)

I noticed that too. Maybe they just meant the man that Kate thought was her step-father. But you're right, Wayne was in fact Kate's biological father, she just doesn't see it that way I think.
MrMax 05-20-2007, 04:44 PM Hi - I don't know how to do the quote thing but in response to "UMM who did she shoot??? I dont recall her killing anyone but Wayne. The only person I can think of that she shot was Jason the Bank Robber and that was in the leg "...
I've been rewatching Season 1. During the bank robbery, there were a few other people robbing the bank with them. She shot a couple of them in addition to Jason. I don't know if any of them died.
Technically, wouldn't he be both?
When Kate was conceived her mom was married to Sam Austen, legally he's her father. Then when they devoice Kate's mom marries Wayne, making him her step-father.
But now we know that Kate's mom had an affair with Wayne while Sam was away in Korea (I think it was Korea) which resulted in Kate.
That would make Wayne her step-father and her true biological father.... right?

no...that still makes Wayne her true bio father. Not her step father at all. Legally, if Sam stayed married to Kate's mom all along, he would be her LEGAL gardian, father, what-not, but there is no way he would ever be considered her BIO-dad for the obvious reasons.
But wouldn't Sam's name be on her birth certificate as her biological father?
If not you'd think she would have found out earlier that he wasn't her dad.
AlongForTheRide 05-22-2007, 12:31 AM GenX you are right. Kate's last name is Austen. She lived the majority of her life thinking that Sam was her biological father, then she finds out it's actually Wayne, in her eyes he is her stepfather. Legally she's Sam's daughter.

I can't seem to find it, but it seems like I remember someone - perhaps Edward Mars the Marshall, or maybe one of the Others - mentioning this incident as one of the litany of things that Kate has done.
Juliezgroovy 05-25-2007, 12:37 AM When Kate killed Wayne, she thought he was her stepfather. She believed she was killing her stepfather, and that is what the police thought too. Maybe that is why they referred to him as her "stepfather" on the show.

No, she knew he was her biological father when she killed him, it's partly the reason she killed him. She couldn't stand the constant reminder of where she actually came from, that's she'd "never be anything good".
