But did they defy their destiny in doing so?

View Full Version : The Survivors (will) have left the island!!! MinnieVanMommie 05-23-2007, 11:53 PM But did they defy their destiny in doing so? MadWatch 05-24-2007, 01:06 AM I am reminded of a story ( I cannot recall if this was a movie I saw or just a story) about Shangri-la. People found Shangri-la (paradise) and left, but then found they could never return again and mourned the loss that they could never return to paradise. Maybe "the island" is something like that: Paradise (ample food, healing powers) and Ben is trying to prevent the island from being discovered. I'm just tossing out ideas here. adr55555 05-24-2007, 05:12 AM Great thread!! I'm going to say YES. But my mind is still reeling and I can't coherently explain why I feel that way. I'll be back. AJinRI 05-24-2007, 06:16 AM I am reminded of a story ( I cannot recall if this was a movie I saw or just a story) about Shangri-la. Colonel Sanders 05-24-2007, 07:00 AM But did they defy their destiny in doing so? I believe so, I'm not sure if anyone was meant to leave the Island once they got on it.... MarineOne 05-24-2007, 09:41 AM It would be pretty sad if the case ends up being that they're in paradise but have no real way of recognizing or appreciating it until they're off the island and then never able to go back. That would almost sound like hell at that point... You want off when you're there, but seemingly can't, and then want back on once you get off, but seemingly can't.. gantos69 05-24-2007, 12:43 PM I don't think they will all get rescued due to one simple fact: When Naomi's crew shows up and sees her dead they will assume the losties killed her, and blamo! mass genocide. I think Locke's mission was never to stop Jack or to take the phone, it was simply to kill Naomi. The Regulars will escape unharmed, except for Claire and baby, who board the "rescue" helicopter before they start killing everybody, much like Desmond predicted. I believe the flash forward we saw might be an alternate timeline, representing the rescue had Naomi not been knifed by Locke. If the boat is DHARMA trying to find the island again to reclaim it. My guess is they let the Losties go in the end, of course, some have to die, mostly redshirts, but maybe some major names. The 'Others" get purged, maybe a few find there way back to the jungle. But this still allows the future we saw come to pass. Somewhere along the way a few things MUST happen though. 1. Kate must tell Jack to stay away, and it must be to keep him safe from something (from seeing her happy with someone else thereby causing him pain?) 2. Jack must have an epiphany at some point and realize what the island is. Most likely after he gets off the island. 3. We meet whoever was in that coffin and find out why no other Losties care that they died, except Jack. That would lead me to think that whoever it is taught Jack about this island and that that person wanted everyone to stay, which would be why no one else wanted to go to the service. 4. We find out who "Adam and Eve" are. Gonna be a long summer, fall, and winter...... wtec 05-28-2007, 12:13 AM But did they defy their destiny in doing so? I think they did. And I think their destiny was to save humanity. Desmond's certainly was, according to Ms. Hawking. The Valenzetti-predicted end of the world is coming, and the Island has a plan. Locke has known from the beginning that they were brought there for a reason. I think that's what the reason was. And I think Jack ruined it by getting his people off the Island and turning it over to Naomi's group. And he knows that. That's why he's suicidal and desperate to get back there. So he can fix it. rabidranger 05-28-2007, 12:20 AM But did they defy their destiny in doing so? I think Jack defied his destiny. Here's the equation: Locke said that they were brought to the Island for a reason + Locke said that Jack wasn't men to do "this" (make the call to Naomi's boat) = Jack was brought to the Island for a reason other than making the call that would bring Naomi's group to the Island. That reason seems to be related to something that would happen ON THE ISLAND, which is why Jack is so desperate to get back. Jack's destiny is ON THE ISLAND. leppardess 05-28-2007, 02:08 AM I think they did. And I think their destiny was to save humanity. Desmond's certainly was, according to Ms. Hawking.
