Wasn't that cool? I was a bit worried Alex would pull away from Danielle, but I was touched by their first moments with each other.

Now, Danielle has 16 years to think of what the 1st thing she wants to say to Alex... "Help me tie him up." Hmmmm....not exactly a tug at the heart strings;)

Significant, though. As in, "He's not your parent. I am. Let's own this b*stard."

That was my favorite scene of the episode - that and Danielle backhanding Ben when he was tied to the tree.

I love both of them and was so happy Alex finally learned the truth. I was also struck by just how similar they look - very cool!

Here's hoping we finally get a Danielle flashback (or flash forward now or whatever!) next season!

Totally what I was thinking.:) I'm just really happy for both of them. Whatever Ben reveals as his "motives," however convincing they may be, all the pain and loss he's caused people, including keeping a baby/child/young woman away from her mother...damn that's so harsh. Easily the most evilly manipulative character I've seen in years. Always with the "You have to hear this." or "I have to show you something first." Bast%rd.

I don't want to rain on anyone's parade, but I've got to say this was the biggest disappointment of the entire series for me. The Danielle/Alex meeting deserved a prominent spot and a MUCH more dramatic treatment, not a brief, uninspired scene wedged into a episode that's crowded with other serious events. Why? Danielle has been on this island longer than anyone we know except Richard, and has suffered more than all. Given Mira's dramatic talents I expected them to take advantage of them and write a climactic scene for a season 4 ep. This was bad.

I liked it - I thought it was a great moment and very well done. They could have a long drawn out scene in season 4 but I think this was good because they really don't know each other and having this touching scene was a nice way to show it without..."well hey, where the hell have you been??" type stuff. I'm sure Alex is going to want to know what happened and why her mother has been hiding out and not coming for her.

They tried to cram too much plot into too short a time frame. (I can't believe I'm saying this, after 2-1/2 seasons of muttering about too little plot to fill the whole eppy!) I suppose, given the circumstances they were all in, a long "getting to know you" scene was out of the question. And Danielle embracing Alex' face like that was beautiful! But I kept hoping Alex would SAY something. And that Karl would join her and give her support in this highly emotional moment. (Heck, Karl and Alex didn't even say "hi" to each other in this eppy--and here they are, supposedly a couple!) Just a thousand little things that should've been there, and weren't. And this was the singular happy moment of the eppy! (Don't think so? Name another one. Everyone thinking they were about to be rescued--when we darn well know they aren't, at least not how they expect--doesn't count. Name another. OK, maybe the news that Sayid/Jin/Bernard weren't dead, after all. Gimme another. **pause** Thought not.)

I was so happy that this finally came out. I think I woulda thrown something at the TV if nothing had been said and they just went their separate ways. I guess Ben figured "well, I'm a bloody mess and bound on the ground...what the hell, I'll tell her."

I thought the meeting was great. I was worried that the writers would screw up the dialogue because I've been looking forward to this scene for a long time. Lo and behold, Danielle and Alex meet, and the feelings are communicated not with dialogue, but with Danielle caressing her daughter's face. The scene hinged on Tania's and Mira's expressions, and they delivered. The "Help me tie him up line" was so Danielle. I can almost hear the chip off the old block, Alex, say, "Okay, mom, and afterwards can we go dig a pit together?"

Ah Hurley the hero...geez

I disagree, Karl had no part in this moment and he knew that. The look on his face was enough. We didn't see Karl and Alex greet each other but did we really need too?? We know how they feel about each other so...I like that we don't need to see every single moment of this show. Some things you just know.

I loved that the scene was not messed up with dialogue and was just a beautiful moment as it should have been.

But I kept hoping Alex would SAY something. And that Karl would join her and give her support in this highly emotional moment.

That's what made the scene so remarkably poignant. We have been told this woman had her infant taken from her, and for 16 years, she wondered, searched, hoped, prayed that she would somehow have the chance to see this child she never got to know. Now in this unexpected, surreal, split second, she is told, Your child is standing here before you. What more to do than to reflexively and lovingly reach out and touch her baby. Not fill it up with meaningless words, certainly not "catch up." Just be together for those few precious seconds.

Oh, and if Karl would've stepped into that magical, fleeting moment, I would've had to reach through the screen and throw him back into the brainwashing room for another few days.

Interesting that Danielle said she started the looped distress call a few weeks before Alex was born. So now we know Alex was definitely born on the island. Does this give her any special island "powers" that we have yet to see?

Yeah, I thought it was perfect. We all kinda wanted it to be this huge, climatic thing, and it was just like "eh, she's your mom". But both actresses played it beautifully and it was touching and humorous at the same time. It could have been longer, but then it would have just been too drawn out and dramatic and bleh. In this instance, less told so much more!

I thought it was sweet. It's about time! I also thought it was nice of Ben to actually tell Alex that she was her mother. But the question is, how did Ben know that? I mean, yeah he was already on the island when she was born. But it's as if the others have never seen Danielle. He was so nonchalant about it. I'd like to see some flashbacks of Danielle. Because as touching as that scene was, it was awkward. The way Ben ran things around there would make you think that he knew about Danielle. But if he did, its as if they've totally ignored her.

As short as it was, I'm just glad that Alex was accepting of Danielle. I was also worried that she would pull away and be like, "Ben, what the heck are you talking about?! My mother is DEAD!" or something like that.

I also like the little subtleties, like Alex following Danielle into the tower. I just hope we get some decent Danex scenes next season, or else, I will be angry! A flashback would be great!

I agree, and this is why I'm glad they didn't overdo the reunion. Alex is pretty well on her way to adulthood, I'm sure she has many questions about all of this. If there would have been some big sappy moment, it would have seemed out of place, IMO. I thought it was perfect just the way it was.

"Luke, I am your father."
"Alex, this is your mother."

Aaaah, I absolutely LOVED their scenes, and agree heartedly with all that said less is more, and their expressions said it all. We always knew Mira was an excellent, renowned actress, and it was lovely to see young Tania hold her own in those scenes. I have been waiting for this moment for 3 years, and this, and the mention in the radio tower were wonderful pay-offs for me.

Catching up will happen in season 4, probably during a Danielle-centric episode. Can't wait.

I also thought Alex and Karl did have a reunion scene, also without words, when Alex and Ben showed up in front of the group. They edited in shots of them looking at each other. A silent greeting.

It was a beautiful moment - and a much-anticipated one for the fans. Less was definitely more for now - it wouldn't have done to have more dialogue in that scene with everything else that was going on. Also, I liked that Danielle had already been able to see Alex from a distance and get some of her emotional reaction out of the way. And Alex had been tipped off that the Losties knew who her real mother was so the questions had been swirling around in her head a few days now. So when Danielle saw Alex and recognized her, she stepped forward carefully. It was truly touching - her desire to make contact but also not frighten her daughter. I loved that Alex was open to her, curious. I look forward to their getting better acquainted next season.

That was a beautiful moment - I had tears in my eyes as Danielle finally touched her daughter's face and they looked into each other's eyes - for the first time ever experiencing the loving gaze of a daughter and mother.

Ben's introduction was hysterical - bloodied and beaten and held to the ground: Alex, meet your mother..

My sentiments, too. Softly touching her daughter's face after all these years conveyed more than any conversation would have done. Brilliant!

I think they did, she made it clear that she stayed away from the others and was in hiding so I think they either thought she was dead or left her alone because she left them alone. They wouldn't really have any reason to worry about her.

Obviously Ben knew where Alex came from - he was most likely involved in the kidnapping so of course he would know Danielle. They also knew about Danielle's signal and were blocking it.

Honestly, if I were Alex I would be a little creeped out. Even though she does have questions about who her real parents are, if all of the sudden Ben says this is your real mom, and some crazy-looking french woman comes and starts caressing you...I think that would be a little strange.

I thought the line was completely in character for her. I loved it. It kinda demonstrated the more obvious bond they have - a distain for Ben. The mother/daughter bond hasn't had a chance to develop. You work with what you got.

And that initial "awe" when she caressed Alex's face, that to me was the not only a here's my daughter thing but also a recognition of family resemblance experience that has been denied for both fo them for so long.

I totally loved Danielle being in a tender mode (as tender as she could probably get after all she has been through) and then shifting right back into back to business mode seemlessly.

I guess that next season they will spend their days setting traps in the jungle together, sharing tips on camoflage, bunny skinning and shooting at strangers. So touching really, all they need now is to find some cats to live with them in their hidden commado lair. Does anyone else have the sinking feeling that, sometime in Season 4 or Season 5, Danielle will be a victim of an untimely death just as she's getting to know Alex - - possibly at the hands of those who invade the island?

Could Alex end up permanently losing her mother at the worst possible time, and eventually come to blame Jack for it, back in the outside world?

I bet you're right, and what a lousy choice! That character interaction is key stuff. There are a number of things that would have been better to cut. If you missed it though, after they come out of the radio hut, you can see them in the background with Daniel fawning over alex, with her arm around her and smiling at her. It's pretty sweet. Of course it only lasts a few seconds, after which Daniel needs to go stand next to Ben in case a situation arises in which he needs to be elbowed in the face.

I think it was done well and that it matched both of their characters. I don't think they would have been too touchy-feely upon meeting each other for the first time in 16 yrs... especially since Alex just recently found out her mother is alive. But the look on her face when Danielle touched her was priceless... it made me think that as a girl growing up, she may have always dreamed of having a mother. That being said, I think from the look she gave when she saw Ben lying there all bloodied from Jack's fists seemed to betray that she still cares about him. She was the only one of the group to approach him at all. I mean, he raised her and seemed to really care about her well-being...she's probably feeling kinda confused about it all.

This makes me want more Alex/Danielle/Ben flashbacks. I want to see Alex's childhood...why Ben took her...How he raised her...I also wonder how it will be for Danielle and Alex now. Alex is practically an adult, so I doubt she'll simply move in with mom. I'm sure there will be some tension there. That's on my wish list for S4.

I loved the look on Alex's face when Danielle touched her, it was kind of like "mommy?" :D But I agree - it would not be realistic for there to not be some kind of tension between them - these people may be related but they are strangers - so if we don't get to see that next season I will feel very ripped off.
