I don't intend to start a love-triangle war with this thread. ;)
I was deeply moved by Jack saying to Kate, "Because I love you.". All the romance angles aside, he truly loves her. He wants her to be happy, no matter where she is, no matter who she is with. I've never seen their bond as being romantic, but I have always felt it was genuine, intense and rare. The sort of bond you are lucky to have with blood relatives, let alone a stranger.
And I'm not much of a Jack fan. Actually, I've always thought he was a bit unstable. But those words were honest, mature ... said with no agenda attached to them. I'm seeing Jack in a different light.
