Chrono333 02-28-2008, 11:01 PM One of the best episodes ever. That's all I can say.
Joshypoo 02-28-2008, 11:04 PM I absofruitly loved every second of this episode!!!!
Lionhearted 02-28-2008, 11:04 PM That was easily one of the best episodes... And this is from someone who thinks the show has been sucking for a long time now. That was amazing. Perfect blend of sci-fi and drama. Everything I want out of LOST.
pacejunkie 02-28-2008, 11:06 PM OMG from the worst episode ever to the best. I feel like I'm bouncing around like Desmond. That's was so good I didn't want it to end. Love Desmond, love Daniel, love Penny, the whole story was made of win.
driveshaft76 02-28-2008, 11:07 PM 1,000,000% turnaround from last weeks tremendously horrid episode.
This was quite possibly the best episode of the series.
I'm speechless. I've still got tears in my eyes from the Penny / Des scene.
Sawyers Mojito 02-28-2008, 11:08 PM Wow!! Just WOW!!
That may be my favorite episode yet. THAT is why I watch Lost,
The Des/Penny Scene at the end made me cry!!
and The Black Rock First Mate... HANSO!!
WOW!!
Just Wow.... I love Desmond Epi's!!
I am so so so so so glad I quit spoilers!!
axpo23 02-28-2008, 11:08 PM WAY better than Eggtown. I am still confused and trying to wrap my mind around stuff. woo-hooooo!
GettinLost 02-28-2008, 11:08 PM It was an incredible episode! Just amazing! Kudos to the writers of this story!!
ortiz34 02-28-2008, 11:08 PM great stuff, especially the xmas eve call to penny
Colonel Sanders 02-28-2008, 11:08 PM Easily one of the best episodes of Lost ever......and how about Henry Ian Cusick getting an emmy nomination please!?!?!?
He rocked tonight.
Tension, drama, suspense....tonights episode had it all and more!
wolffootball37 02-28-2008, 11:09 PM Awesome episode, but im going to take a line from Locke
"Were going to need to watch that again!"
 ;)
CrimsonRabbit 02-28-2008, 11:09 PM I have a heart of stone and I've never felt moved enough to post in the Loved It thread but this was bloody perfect. I am weeping fat tears.
Kate731 02-28-2008, 11:11 PM Agreed! This was fantastic.
Absolutely insane in every way. And the Penny/ Des scene at the end was really perfectly done (and I don't usually go for anything sappy- it was perfectly done).
I've never had to "think" so much during an hour of television. Nope. Never. It was awesome.
erin1679 02-28-2008, 11:12 PM I agree 100%. What an awesome episode, and you're right, the Desmond eps don't disappoint. After reading one major spoiler this season (on accident), I decided to steer clear of spoilers too. Its so much better to watch it first, and catch up with the others after :)
palomino_grl78 02-28-2008, 11:16 PM I definitely dug this episode. I am normally a huge Desmond fan but Daniel Faraday stole this episode away. He is a great addition to the show and I hope we get to see a cool interaction develop between him and Desmond who is his constant.
Sawyers Mojito 02-28-2008, 11:16 PM Best Episode Ever.
metallidevils 02-28-2008, 11:16 PM I want to stand up and clap. Incredible.
Cardielost 02-28-2008, 11:17 PM I never thought we'd get Des in contact with Penny so soon--what a great romantic moment (take that, quadrangle of doom!) I'm not sure we're going to make any scientific sense out of the time traveling, but who cares at this moment. The symbolism is what is great as Penny anchors Des to life itself.
Sometimes drama just needs to focus. Thank heavens there were no B-plots or comic filler. This was essentially Dan, Des and Sayid getting the job done.
Cardie
Guinevere 02-28-2008, 11:18 PM I was so excited and confused, I felt like Desmond!! One of the best ever and they explained the "time travel" in language I could understand without treating the audience like idiots. Who didn't feel like crying when Des was talking to Pen on the phone!!!
:woohoo: What a great ep!
BillToons 02-28-2008, 11:21 PM Thank you messing up my mind big time.
This was the best episode of Lost by far... ever.
FUTURE_PAINT 02-28-2008, 11:29 PM BEST EPISODE EVER. BEST BEST BEST.
I can't wait to buy it on iTunes tomorrow morning and re-watch! SO much info, and the bit with Penny and Des totally choked me up.
THANK YOU, WRITERS!!!!
nancy 02-28-2008, 11:30 PM It was incredible, just incredible. It was so perfect. Every second of it was intense and full of meaning. The Penny/Desmond Christmas Eve call was so beautifully done. Penny is his constant, with all that that means, and Desmond is Daniel's- a lot to think about. I just wanted to mention that as amazing as they were, I thought that Sayid's part in all of the episode was also really strong, yet touching. He reacted to all of it exactly right.
TheBeastIsMe 02-28-2008, 11:38 PM Damon, Carlton, if I weren't a guy, I would kiss you two on the mouth.
...aw, what the hell! * SMACK*
Seriously, this show is so good, it's funny. Time travel on a mainstream prime time drama? Well done. And all while circumventing the Grandfather Paradox?! Insane.
Chrystal_Jems 02-28-2008, 11:39 PM See, this is what happens when the actual creators of the show write the episodes themselves. This was, by a comfortable mile, the best episode of Lost I've ever had the pleasure of watching. I was completely on the edge of my seat the whole time and actually cried for the first time in a long time when it comes to Lost. Now, if only Des could go back in time and get D&C to write Eggtown...
driveshaft76 02-28-2008, 11:44 PM Who didn't feel like crying when Des was talking to Pen on the phone!!!
I didn't just feel like crying, I was.
"Numfar, do the dance of joy!"
lostorfound 02-28-2008, 11:47 PM unbelievably excellent!!! I think I was happier to hear Penny's voice than Desmond was!
myfavoriteleaf 02-28-2008, 11:48 PM I almost peed my britches! This was a fantastic episode! So many of my questions/theories were answered/fulfilled. OMG! My elderly (80 years old and very into LOST) father even got excited and we paced around discussing it during the commercials.
The worst part was when ABC lost it's signal during part of it, and other parts were garbled with digital mess. None of the other stations were garbling, so I assume it was ABC.
I cried when Des reached Penny.
KRANG 02-28-2008, 11:52 PM I can't believe that "Eggtown" and "The Constant" are even from the same series. This was by FAR the best episode in a while. WOW.
Ok, that episode right there was gold. Absolutely phenomenal. Desmond is such a kickass.
STH would've loved it.
benmanrocky 02-28-2008, 11:53 PM Ouch my head hurts, awesome episode.
pacejunkie 02-28-2008, 11:55 PM OMG xero, you're right. : ( STH, where ever you are, I hope you saw this. It was for you.
tekneck 02-29-2008, 12:02 AM This episode was absolutely amazing, heart wrenching, and brilliant. lost is the best show on television, period.
MaxTennessee 02-29-2008, 12:06 AM Same here, favorite episode of season 4 by far, and supperior to most if not, all episodes ever! Finally some semi answers
Gkaplan 02-29-2008, 12:06 AM They use Desmond for so much on this show, from the minute he was "the man in the hatch." On some level I feel like that should bother me, and make me dislike the character. But I just can't. His episodes are alway my favorite. And this one is now right there fighting for the top spot. I'm going to go watch it again!
MPmom 02-29-2008, 12:06 AM Best episode yet!
sickotriz 02-29-2008, 12:12 AM This is easily one of my most favorite episodes of Lost EVER. Kudos to the writers for doing time travel in a way that isn't completely full of holes.
The writers of other shows *cough* Heroes *cough* should take note.
Bravo. 10/10
kittenkong80 02-29-2008, 12:16 AM Absolutely one of the best ever. Plenty of action. Answers. And Penny and Desmond reaffirming their devotion.
adam8023 02-29-2008, 12:20 AM I enjoyed it.
9/10
Islandtracker 02-29-2008, 12:21 AM OMG I have tears in my eyes and I am a dude and NEVER cried about LOST or any tv show EVER!
That is how good it was. I stayed spoiler free for this eppisode and it was so worth it. My heAD hurts, my heart is beating fast with emotion and I actually care about the characters, plot, mythology, etc.(I havent felt that way since season one and end of season 3 with Jack's flashforawrd.)
We actually got answers too! This was what season one felt like and we havent felt this way in so long. This kind of writing is the writing MOST Lost fans have begged for since season one. Cast integration (I love Desmond and Sayid), Romance (Desmond and Penny I am totally behind now), lots of mystery but answers with that mystery that make me feel like we are getting somehwere, great acting, great flashbacks.
I am speachless.
My brother who never goes online but who was a huge LOST fan season one but fell off the ban wagon somewhere mid season two watched tonights eppi and just called me and told me LOST is back! He said since when did the writing get this good again?
I said around end of season 3 when Jack had his first flashforward. Definately happy LOST is back to the way it used to be. The return of good EPIC super couples (Jack and Kate, Penny and Desmond), return of mystery WITH answers, return of good writing, retunrn of blowing your mind eppisodes, interesting characters. WOOT WOOT!
Uvajed 02-29-2008, 12:27 AM I knew way back, Penny and Des would be critical to the show, Penny's dad will be the funding for the Dharma project.
I have to agree, quite possibly the best episode of the series to date. Desmonds probably my favorite character on the show as his storyline seems the most compelling, so its always a plus when its a Desmond centric ep.
maverick9six 02-29-2008, 12:40 AM The BEST episode of this season so far!! Hands down!! More than made up for last weeks tired old Kate episode- I love LOST!!!!!
TypicalHorror 02-29-2008, 12:40 AM This episode melted my brain. Fan freaking tastic. Thanks Darlton for another hour long escape.
Jack Sawyer 02-29-2008, 12:55 AM eryWow!!
I'm glad you quit spoilers too! :)
Anyways, this episode was just awesome. Didn't mind for a moment that we got so little island time; I just love that Des/Penny stuff, LOST's only true love story (in my humble opinion). That phone call, wow.
I said in another thread that that may have been The Most Romantic Moment in Television History, and I stand by that... that phone call was **** intense.
LostLaura 02-29-2008, 01:03 AM Yes, quitting spoilers was huge for me too, because I knew NOTHING about this episode, except for the name of it.
OMG this episode was beyong amazing. It was perfect. I can't wrap my mind around rating episodes right now, but I have a feeling this is at least in my top 5, maybe even top 3, Lost episodes of all time. With the surprises and answers and major character development in this episode, I would says it's right up there with "Walkabout" with how moving and surprising and mind-blowing that episode was.
Jack Sawyer 02-29-2008, 01:06 AM Yeah! Like Walkabout! Honestly, episodes like this one make me Darlton wrote them all. That said, there arent many episodes I really mind.
Darbi 02-29-2008, 01:12 AM Dear Darlton, After 'Eggtown', I was in deserate need of an anchor. Thank you for being my constant. Love, Me. P.S. Bloody fantastic, mind blowing episode, brotha'!
Amigori 02-29-2008, 01:14 AM Best episode of the season!!!! Finally, something about the larger mysteries of the island. And away from the Jake-Kate-Sawyer boringness. And to bring back the Whitmore's and focus on Desmond and Daniel, Excellent!
More of these types of episodes. Actual substance!
OhNoTheOthers 02-29-2008, 01:15 AM Quitting the spoilers is most definately the key to loving this show. When you take out the suspense and surprise, it really sucks the fun out of it. Ever since I stopped reading spoilers, ever episode gets better and better. This was the best epi I have ever seen. I love the direction the show is taking. Well done!
nlzounis 02-29-2008, 01:16 AM This ep was amazing!!! I actually cried when Desmond and Penny were talking on the phone. It was the sweetest thing.
I couldn't be happier with this show
sawyer101 02-29-2008, 01:20 AM i'm speechless, that was, if not thee best episode of lost ever,
it was amazing, awesome, wonderful, and any other words i can think of,
it was that good
Jealous_Guy 02-29-2008, 01:21 AM I feel almost like a burden has been lifted, just knowing that Des got a chance to tell Penny he loved her. I don't know if I've ever been that touched by an episode before. Simply amazing in every way imaginable.
torb28 02-29-2008, 01:27 AM Desmond and Penny - together - as good as it gets!
summerdreams 02-29-2008, 01:37 AM Amazing!! I was completely surprised by the Daniel, Desmond connection. I'm still processing the new information. I love, love, love Lost!!
Alex Ewing 02-29-2008, 01:50 AM One of the best episodes of the entire series. I had to pop in the Iron Maiden "Somewhere In Time" album as soon as the episode ended. Fit perfectly with everything I had just seen.
MTQuinn 02-29-2008, 02:04 AM Unbelievable! I am absolutely floored by this episode! Kudos to writers and to the forum: I love you guys.
island hottie 02-29-2008, 02:12 AM OMG. I'm still reeling from how absolutely brilliant this episode was!
And btw, you guys aren't the only ones who cried in the Des/Penny scene.
I balled like a baby! :p
I feel like I'm on a Lost high right now. I'm so excited for the rest of the season!
jupiter_rejected 02-29-2008, 02:16 AM best.....episode.....ever
Lost writers, you've won me back.
Shione 02-29-2008, 02:17 AM I feel like I'm 6 years old and just got a pony for christmas! It never stopped delivering mind-blowing, jaw-dropping moments, and I think I may be riding this high for quite some time.
Desmond was brilliant, Faraday was intoxicatingly entertaining, and I must admit, it was great to get some more 'Sayid can fix anything' moments!
Wow!
TheKeyIsLocke 02-29-2008, 02:25 AM This is my first post in this thread since the season began. I'm a grown man, and I've been through a lot, but this episode tugged too hard, and I just broke down at the end. The interaction between desmond and penny was raw, and real (not like the sappy love triangle crap).
This episode should win an emmy, and every award imaginable.
As one of my friends just told me, "Probably the greatest episode in the history of television." I've got it saved on my DVR, and I'm never erasing it.
AlongForTheRide 02-29-2008, 02:28 AM This was by far my favorite lost episode. It was intense, full of emotion and I loved every minute of it, especially Desmond's phone call to Penny, I was in tears.
lockesmithe 02-29-2008, 02:46 AM Best episode of a good season. What a treat.
Seems like every week I'm complimenting a cast member, and this week I'm giving it up for Henry Ian Cusick. Boy, when this guy gets an episode, he really gets an episode. Seemed like he was on screen 90% of the time, and lit up the screen in 100% of his scenes.
Desmond and Penny continue to be Lost's best couple. I've never really cared for any other couple or triple or whatever. I care about Desmond and Penny. They have the Odessey thing going for them. Oh, and great acting.
The amount of information dumped on us tonight was astounding.
The episode was well-written. A gem. Good pacing. Exciting. A reveal at every turn. Desmond. Desmond and Penny. Kudos to Damon and Carlton for penning what must have been a challenging episode to write.
To all involved, job really well done.
klonopin 02-29-2008, 02:56 AM One of the best episodes ever. That's all I can say.
Never did the "loved it" one before.
Agreed, Chrono.
Opens the series so wide. Henry Ian is THE STAR, as he has been since his intro. This ep breaks all predictions wide open.
LOST can now go "anywhere" and "anywhen," and we will follow.
If they keep this up, we shall never understand, yet always remain sastisfied.
I feel almost like a burden has been lifted, just knowing that Des got a chance to tell Penny he loved her. I don't know if I've ever been that touched by an episode before. Simply amazing in every way imaginable.
Agreed.
Amazing!! I was completely surprised by the Daniel, Desmond connection. I'm still processing the new information. I love, love, love Lost!!
Agreed again.
Best episode of a good season. What a treat.

Agreed, agreed and agreed! A great episode-- well-written and superbly acted.
Tha Murfdawg 02-29-2008, 03:52 AM 1,000,000% turnaround from last weeks tremendously horrid episode.
This was quite possibly the best episode of the series.
I'm speechless. I've still got tears in my eyes from the Penny / Des scene.
I'm completely speechless. And as far as the ending with Penny/Desmond....try to be as manly as possible, and NOT cry. I tried to and simply failed. Maybe part of it had to do with a similar situation in my own life being in the military and not having the chance he got (time travel not included). Kind of ironic that I just came off a research vessel myself tonight and was counting my stars to actually catch this. My good wife was kind enough to DVR it for me and I'm soooo glad that she did.
In summary, keep this episode in mind for the Emmy....it is WELL worthy of it!
brutal20 02-29-2008, 03:59 AM Wow, this episode reminded me of why I love this show. Great plot movement, good character building. Syeed (I don't know how to spell his name) was an excellent support character for this Desmond thread, they played off each other brilliantly. This episode got me pumped, my roommate was even sniffling a little afterwards. Very emotional.
bterrill 02-29-2008, 04:23 AM this episode was really good, I think one of the best ever. definitly 10/10 in my book. I really love Desmond's character and was happy to see a lot more about him and I also like Sayid.
this was the kind of episode that got me me hooked. I'm more lost than ever. I think you guys did a great job at revealing a lot of info but not enough to give the whole picture as usual. I wish it was next week. I can't wait for the next one.
I can't really say how much I enjoyed this one it was amazing. Just reminds me why I got addicted to this show.
lauraperdue 02-29-2008, 05:56 AM What an incredible episode. This is by far the best thing on tv! And I think the episodes just get better and better!
lipgloss_and_revolver 02-29-2008, 06:01 AM This is the very best -- completely breathtaking!
THANK YOU!:77:
I :63: that Des doesn't suffer Minkowsky's fate or else people will have to build another arc like Noah's because of a serious flood, & I'm not talking about posts. ;)
im speecheless.
best. episode. ever.
Thank you Damon, Carlton, Jack Bender, Henry Ian Cusick, and basically everyone in the crew and the cast. Consider my mind blown.
asystole 02-29-2008, 06:52 AM Finally an episode that is well written. Desmond jumping back and forth through time maintains character and displays true talent; unlike Kate who delivers lines like week old pizza combined with a storyline that rides like a washed out mountain road.
Desmond's story effects every one of the characters and advances the plot; we don't need another Kate and Man of the Week bits until season 6.
andy_candy 02-29-2008, 06:53 AM A-M-A-ziiiiiing
My first post in the "Loved It" thread & I am so glad to post it.
BEST EPISODE. Wonder-work by the team Darlton. Keep up.
Drewb 02-29-2008, 07:01 AM I haven't decided exactly what about this episode made it so great, but it just was. There's something about the character Desmond that glues you to the screen and makes you emotionally invest yourself. I think it's the actor's perfect mirroring of the emotions felt by the audience and the character's relationship with Penny that's so very relateable for so many people. As I was watching this episode, I felt like I was Desmond - searching and groping for answers. I allowed myself to envision his Penny as a long lost love of mine, and wept when he was able to tell her that he loves her (which was, while laconic, a perfectly realistic and heart-wrenching scene). I can't give this episode higher marks. Lost has never failed to make me weep and yet feel great about it. 10/10.
the exiled 02-29-2008, 08:06 AM Penny is Back!!! Awesome!!!
Blue Coral 02-29-2008, 08:15 AM That episode was great.I loved the time travel! I was confused in the beginning, but thank goodness things were actually explained as the storyline went along and didnt leave me buzzing with even more questions. HICs acting was phenomenal. Someone said Emmy nom earlier...I say he should get one too!! He was brilliant. The Des/Penny scene at the end really had me in tears. They got the emotions right on. And Daniel is so cute!! Great job writers!!
heatherlar 02-29-2008, 08:22 AM Awesome.
pacejunkie 02-29-2008, 08:37 AM I haven't decided exactly what about this episode made it so great, but it just was. HIC is awesome but I also think part of that feeling you describe came from the way the episode was written, shot and cut together. I felt the same feeling of disorientation, like missing a step down the stairs, every time it cut away because it would change so abruptly, often midsentence and without that annoying whooshing sound. That was a brilliant effect and it was starting to weird me out after a while, making me feel a bit like Desmond. Outstanding. Why can't every week be this good?
hiltop 02-29-2008, 08:55 AM I think this ranks among my favorite episodes of the whole series. Amazing!
Lockefan 02-29-2008, 09:03 AM Perfect 10!
The problem with the fact that I always post in the "Loved It!" thread is that when I really, really, really, REALLY love it, it might not stand out from simply loving it, so let me emphatically state that I really, really, really, REALLY loved "The Constant", as in: this is one of my all-time fave LOST episodes!
We learned SO much, peeps, and it was a wild, imaginative, amazing ride, much like "Flashes Before Your Eyes" (also a top fave of mine).
Here are a few initial thoughts of mine (and I haven't read the boards yet, so these topics may have threads of their own going and I won't go into detail here, this is just by way of saying what the episode got my brain working overtime on):
1. Do you guys think that "the sickness" that "killed them all" that Danielle speaks of is what happened to Desmond and Minkowski? Maybe it didn't affect anyone on 815 because of the course the plane was on/the way it came into the island, and ditto for the Others' submarine because the Others know about the time anomaly and know how to "bring her in", so to speak, but ships like Danielle's research ship and the Black Rock weren't so lucky, trajectory-wise?
2. Remember, the Others had Juliet strapped in and tranquilized for the ride, maybe as a precaution in case they got slightly off course and she got "the sickness"!
3. What was the stuff that the freighter "doctor" tried to inject into Minkowski? Was it the same stuff that the Others are forever injecting themselves with? Does it somehow mitigate the sickness, anchoring you in time?
4. I just knew there was a time anomaly! We've had so many clues, from "A Wrinkle in Time" to the time that Hurley and Sayid were trying to get a signal and instead "In the Mood", a classic swing era song, came through, and Sayid said something about it was not coming from the island, it was coming from another place, to which Hurley responded, jokingly, "...Or another time...just kidding, dude." Clue to the audience, ALERT!
5. Why hasn't Desmond, the entire time he's been on the island, remembered the conversation he had with Penny in 1996...or did it not happen, did he not go shooting back there and have said convo, this altering history, until 2004...but then why did Penny remember, why did she start researching the island (and HOW did she start researching it, in that journal about the Black Rock that Daddio bought?) and she waited for Desmond's call, etc.? I don't quite get how the time travel works in terms of why Des wouldn't have remembered it...but that will probably be addressed, all in "good time", so to speak!
This one is truly a perfect 10. Whenever I think LOST can't get any better, it does. To me, LOST is the best television show ever created, in a league of its own. I always say this about it, as I'm a huge Beatles fan: LOST is to television what the Beatles were to music.
dstripling 02-29-2008, 09:07 AM Awesome! My favorite so far....and I didn't think The Economist could be beat!
DrUrbino 02-29-2008, 09:09 AM I ABSOLUTELY loved it, there are not enough nice things I could write about this episode. I put some thoughts in a post on the rate the episode thread and even more on the linear board as well as a full night of chatting with friends on yim, lol. It was such an extremely interesting and thought-provoking episode... Daniel and Desmond stole the show, the actors gave outstanding performances. It was brilliantly penned and Directed and just another terrific episode in an amazing season so far. I can't wait until next week. :)
wtfsignmeup 02-29-2008, 09:22 AM Awesome! FTW episode, just had everything, and so many subtle answers..oh my!!:eek2:
500_channels 02-29-2008, 09:26 AM Wow
Just finished watching it and was blown away, WHAT an episode!
Brilliant, definetly in my top 10 list of episodes now
qwikgta 02-29-2008, 09:32 AM First time I have posted here............ this was the best I have seen .... ever.

JoZay 02-29-2008, 09:32 AM The Constant episode just flew by so fast, I totally absorbed in the story and the wonderful acting & didn't even notice any Easter eggs either. I really liked the ending, its not being all cliff hanging & all. Love that Desmond & Penny found each other!
and I'm falling more in love with Daniel than ever before. :)
Founder 02-29-2008, 09:39 AM best. eppisode. ever.
Alonia 02-29-2008, 09:43 AM Seriously one of the best episodes of Lost ever.
Lockefan 02-29-2008, 09:43 AM Forgot to say in my earlier post in this thread:
EMMY ALERT!
Best Drama of 2008 Emmy Award
Best Writing of 2008 Emmy Award
Best Acting of 2008 Emmy Award
Best Television Series of All Time, Stuck or Unstuck, Emmy Award
also, best music(I complained about Giacchino not being himself this season, but with this episode he came back in his full glory!!!!!) and best EDITING! Oh my, the back and forth scenes with Penny and Desmodn on the phone. SUPERB.
merry1 02-29-2008, 10:05 AM Ok, I couldn't wait to post here -- but I LOVED THIS EP!! One of the best they've ever done! HiC is brilliant! Give him more to do, Darlton, because he has always been amazing, especially at dealing with some of the freakiest stuff to happen on the island!
I just loved the way the idea of "constant" was worked into the ep -- the triple meaning it literally had (math constant in Dan's formulas, Penny the constant in Des's life, and now Des the constant in Dan's life  ) That seems to suggest Dan will/has already travelled in time as well and gave himself a message for the future. Very cool!
And best of all, this ep showed how great romance can be, when done right! I was in tears by the final phone call -- it was just sweet and genuine, just like Des/Penny. After the idiocacy of Eggtown and how stupid everyone involved looked in that love quadrangle, I hope the writers get a clue and realize this is how it's done. And as far as I'm concerned, Des/Penny are THE couple of the show.
I also loved the fact that the tension was ratcheted up by the end so that literally, if Penny didn't answer the phone, and prove to be the "constant" in Des's life, then he was really going to die -- which was just amazingly good writing.
Ok, final comment -- give us more Desmond! His episodes are so good!
Idemandashrubbery 02-29-2008, 10:21 AM They really catapulted themselves back into everyone's good graces with this one I'm wagering.
It's really sad to see what they still are capable off actually makes eggtown stink all the more, though. Maybe because this episode wasn't given away to third party writers and it seems to be a focal point where they bothered to take a hand in themselves.
Props to everyone involved. Even the camera angles and background music was correct again, for once.
restlessherbalist 02-29-2008, 10:22 AM I didn't think it was possible to top "Flashes before your Eyes." I was wrong.. Perfect 10.
sock_heaven 02-29-2008, 10:25 AM I'm a huge Desmond fan, so I though it was wonderful! I've always loved Desmond and Penny's story, and I really hope they find each other again for good! And that "time traveling" thing was just mind-warping...I kept saying "poor Des!" and hoping he would make it.

^^Yeah, what merry1 said! :D
restlessherbalist 02-29-2008, 10:26 AM Music was especially great in this episode.

locke_fan 02-29-2008, 11:02 AM I'm gonna have to say one of, if not the greatest ep of lost yet.
I think only one previous ep has moved me to tears and that was charlie dying, but the end of this ep had me more.
It had everything and proved that if they wanna do romance and story and answer questions they can. I'm hoping we have no more eps like eggtown and plenty more like this ep.
This is how lost should be
BOBBY 02-29-2008, 11:06 AM yes yes yes
what a beauty
this was a super episode, it really started to fill in the blanks for me, and has my mind racing ..........
henry ian was amazing, he such a cool actor, 10/10 for u mate !!
prospero 02-29-2008, 11:09 AM I didn't like it. I loved it. I love time travel. I think Desmond is portrayed brilliantly, and I think is was WAY COOL that Fisher Stevens was Minkowski, because he was in the show Early Edition in which the main character received the next day's newspaper and went around helping or saving people based on his knowledge of the future.
Miss Aly 02-29-2008, 11:14 AM Oh...my God.
Fabulous episode. All I can say.
Zatherran 02-29-2008, 11:16 AM It is the LOST we love.. the emotion the mystry. the surprise.. this show is not predictible in any shape or form.
Alfred Hitchcock would be proud of these writers and producers, and the directors.
the epi tells one thing for me.. that there is more to living than surviving.. that LOVE
keeps the world moving.
Last of the mochicans - "I will find you, no matter how long or how far"
there are not enough words or phrases or quotes..
NurMisur 02-29-2008, 11:29 AM AMAZING!!! I didn't think anything could ever come close to Flashes Before Your Eyes, but wow, this was awesome! I need more Desmond NOW!
lulinha_k 02-29-2008, 11:35 AM I just loved it. There´s nothing else to say.
Welcome back LOST, I really missed you last week.
Bad_Robot 02-29-2008, 11:41 AM That was absolutely one of the best hours of TV in the last year! This episode rivaled the pilot I think.
Desmond/ Henry Ian was amazing. I'm happy we got more of Sonya Walger.
An incredible hour of drama & suspence. This show HAS to get some serious Emmy noms & wins come September. And it didn't even have my fave character in it, or Kate, Sawyer or Hugo.
GREAT JOB by Darlton & Jack Bender, I salute you!
I can't imagine this season having a better eppy than this one.
ak4t7 02-29-2008, 12:02 PM This is easily the best Lost episode ever. Lost keeps blowing my mind again and again. Best writing on TV ever.
robbotis 02-29-2008, 12:05 PM A great episode. Makes you wonder why they waste time on an ignorant charcter like Kate. Provide more with Ben, Locke, Desmond. These are great charcters.
myfavoriteleaf 02-29-2008, 12:07 PM Sorry, I failed to mention that Dad, at 80, was wiping his eyes at the end.
We both agreed that this was the best one yet.
sblounskched 02-29-2008, 12:16 PM i can't stop thinking about this epi....i even dreamed about it...
wow
verino77 02-29-2008, 12:19 PM Oh my God!!! I cried! My love for Desmond & Penny is my constant! What an amazing episode!!!
I just finished it, my hands are cold, I'm emotionally fragile (I cried!), I have goose pimples, and I'm trying to recover my senses to write this review.
I loved the first and second season of Lost, but when I really got hooked was with Live together, die alone and the introduction of Desmond/Penny's story…
First of all let me get the romantic side of the episode out of my system! Awwwwwww I cried with that scene between those two! They're so intense; they've been through so much! They have to end up together, and living and fine… I don't think I could deal with the death of Penny or Desmond… It would be too much… Penny is Desmond's constant for God's sake!!! If that's not romantic, I don't know what is!...
Although if you think that Desmond is Daniel's constant, it kind of kills the romance, which leads me to… Lost business! We got a lot of information!
• Jack is now aware of the island time problem and possible side effects… (Is that why only six of them could leave?)
• Daniel really knows what he's doing there, and I think he will a main key to unfold the island secrets… I love him
• I missed Miles and wanted to see what happened with his grenade… anyway… he can hold it another week.
• On the ship they know they have a mole, which kind of screws up a little bit Ben's plans…
• Mr. Widmore has been interested on the Black Rock since 1996? WOW! It smells like conspiracy to me…
I think this kind of episodes can be loved (By people like me) or hated by those who want to see every character every episode, but the only thing for sure is that it causes a strong reaction from whoever watches it and for me, was one of my all time favourites… rewatchable, amazing and incredibly well written!
ladyspur 02-29-2008, 12:22 PM   My husband and I loved last night's episode. I cried, of course, when Desmond called Penny on Xmas Eve. Just like he said he would. WOW!!!
flyingv 02-29-2008, 12:22 PM My mind is blown, absolutely fantastic episode. Jeremy Davies and Henry Ian Cusick rocked, plus we got Sonya Walger and Alan Dale to boot.
Who needs the 'quadrangle' when you have Des and Penny?
Just superb, congrats all round.
wanders01 02-29-2008, 12:31 PM OMG.....I have to admit that I finally see light at the end of the tunnel and I don't think it is a train. Finally some things are starting to make some sense. This probably gave us more insight than any epi so far.
No wonder all the power mongers involved are so serious. The island potential is very far-reaching.
I loved for Des also (who wouldn't)
monkeyhateclean 02-29-2008, 12:59 PM An all around awesomely good episode. Great story, great acting, fantastic info download, sweet moments with Pen & Des that weren't horribly sappy, suspenseful, fun tie-ins with previous episodes... Wow.
LostGirl68 02-29-2008, 01:18 PM :eek2: This episode blew my mind! In a good way!
Sawyer89 02-29-2008, 01:30 PM I'd just like to say Henry Ian Cusick blew me away in this episode.
Awesome episode.
IceKat55 02-29-2008, 01:34 PM It's truly amazing that Lost can go from week to week, and be SO drastically different, in terms of storytelling quality. After last week's Eggtown trainwreck, I threw my hands in the air & was ready to give up on the whole series. Now, my faith is restored.
And Des/Penny = EPIC. Now THAT is how a love-story is supposed to be told!
merry1 02-29-2008, 01:40 PM Oh my God!!! I cried! My love for Desmond & Penny is my constant! What an amazing episode!!!

I am so with you! This was just such an emotional punch of an ep -- and I completely agree that when I saw LTDA and saw Des pick up the Pen card in his book right when he was thinking of committing suicide -- that completely hooked me into their relationship -- absolutely the best couple on the show, hands down!
Regarding the other "constant" -- er, I'm thinking Des will not be any sort of "romantic" constant for Dan -- that would just be creepy ;) My guess -- Dan went to the future, where some stuff went really really wrong, wrote that note to himself (along with the equations), because Des will be the key to making things right when that bad stuff goes down. Maybe the time stuff on the island will get out of control in some crazy ep involving everyone, not just Des and Dan, and Dan will have to remember that message to make things right. JMO.
But can I just say again how awesome this ep was  Much love to Darlton, Bender, and Cusick -- keep up the great work!
lostlocke 02-29-2008, 02:03 PM I loved this episode!!! OMG, I was so happy when Des finally got to talk to Penny. What a moment. I love the whole time travel thing and my eyes are just glued to the screen all the time, I especially love Des episodes. I am so happy Sayid was with him, not only to protect him and not let any crazy person on that boat do him any harm, but he fixed the phone, Sayid is the man!!
This episode was absolute perfection. Brilliantly written, acted and directed- by far one of the best LOST episodes EVER. And the phone scene with Penny and Des soldifies the fact that they are only truly romantic, life-long couple on the show. I mean, who really cares about Jate, Skate, Jacket, Hurby, Chaire-or what ever other combo people can come up with- when we have Penny and Des? Bravo to all those involved with this episode!
Cardielost 02-29-2008, 02:21 PM I am so happy Sayid was with him, not only to protect him and not let any crazy person on that boat do him any harm, but he fixed the phone, Sayid is the man!!
As Locke said to Boone so long ago, "The Iraqi is competent. We want him on our side." Surely a message Ben took to heart as well.
Cardie
kpdjp 02-29-2008, 02:29 PM someone give henry ian cusack an emmy!!! best performance i've ever seen on a tv show, period.
traply 02-29-2008, 03:11 PM I cryed, just that.
Felaries65 02-29-2008, 03:36 PM LOST's own "Slaughterhouse Five" episode. A tour de force for Henry Ian Cusak. Very interesting episode. Not only that, I'm in love - more than ever - in the Desmond/Penelope romance.
BlackIceBoy 02-29-2008, 03:37 PM The best ep ever.
And you know what? After this ep, if Lost ended tomorrow, I wouldn't care (!!).
There I said it.
Haggis 02-29-2008, 03:41 PM Wow. What a difference good writing can make. Best episode since the plane crash.
JanesAddiction72 02-29-2008, 03:53 PM This episode by far is one of my fave's and I am a die hard Locke fan and there was no Locke . Go figure. Beautiful writing, beautiful acting, and gosh just a really really really good eppy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Yeah Penny & Des!!!
JPolarBear 02-29-2008, 03:54 PM Awesome! At last a episode that doesn't hint, but actually tells us what is going on. Refreshing! Henry Ian was great! Best addition to Lost ever. Did anyone else see him portray Jesus in a TV movie? He was great in that as well. "Ya gonna die Lazarus".
ravenmoon 02-29-2008, 04:31 PM I can't describe how much I loved this episode! I don;t think there's been an episode this good since season one! I only got invested majorly in the romance side of the show mid season 2 when the show began to go downhill a bit, but with episodes like this, what else do you need!
How this show can go from embarassingly bad to jaw droppingly amazing one week to the next is I guess why we all come back every week regardless of whether an episode is great or not os because we KNOW Lost is capable of episode like this and when they come along the original excitement of when you first fell in love with the show returns!
There are SOOO many amazing characters/actors on this show and two old ones (Desmond and Sayid) and one new one (Faraday) stole this episode are were just perfect. Why the writers focus on washed out characters we're board of seeing do the same thing and focus occasionally on actors of this caliber remain a mystery but hopefully amazingly positive reaction to this episode will show the writers what the fans universally want to see!
Des/Penny was just beautifully done, kudos to the actors and writers, the scene was so romantic and moving and not even slightly cheesy. If they can write romance THIS good for a couple we have only seen together a handful of times that moves so many people what on EARTH are they playing with spending so much time and energy on the quadrangle of doom that only serves to fraustrate all fans and damage all characters? Pick a couple/couples and give them a chance, write their story and maybe one day this couple/couples will universally move the audience to tears when the embarassment of the quadrangle is a forgotten, distant memory.
I so needed this episode, and I can't wait to watch it with my boyfriend who didn't even bother watching last week because I( know it's going to make him lovethis show again!
IronGiant 02-29-2008, 04:59 PM I haven't decided exactly what about this episode made it so great, but it just was. 10/10.
That's worthy of a quote as it sums it up perfectly for me too. A truly outstanding episode, brilliant on every possible levels. Kudos to ALL involved! If this doesn't get a few Emmys then there is no justice!
jjraabe 02-29-2008, 05:09 PM Wow. For sure, one of the best episodes ever. Not only was this a huge turnaround for LOST, finally getting a fantastic episode after a bit of... a slump... but it just completely blew my mind on so many levels.
I do have to say though, I'm a film major, and while half of me was sucked into the story and what was going on and all the stuff they were finally talking about (time travel, yay for the geek in me) all the match cuts they did when Desmond jumped back and forth were ridiculous. So well executed, so brilliant... I can honestly say, that this has been my favorite episode for the entire series.
In one word, this episode was beautiful.
JDisLost 02-29-2008, 05:10 PM Amazing episode, definitely makes up for last week's weaker episode. I wholeheartedly agree with the comments about Henry Ian Cusick's performance, and I thought everyone else involved did a great job too.
draadje 02-29-2008, 05:18 PM best episode so far!! :eek2:
The Shepherd 02-29-2008, 05:21 PM AMAZING!!!! Another great episode!
merry1 02-29-2008, 05:26 PM Wow. For sure, one of the best episodes ever. Not only was this a huge turnaround for LOST, finally getting a fantastic episode after a bit of... a slump... but it just completely blew my mind on so many levels.

Great point about the editing! Yet another thing that was so well done here -- I just loved the mid-sentence breaks between present and past, not to mention the fact that Des would literally be in the middle of an action in one time, and have it translate to a similar gesture in the other -- very cool! It was cinematic in quality -- but even better than any movie I've seen
we are getting nowhere 02-29-2008, 05:27 PM Are we allowed to post a few dozen comments, just so the REPLIES count on 'Loved It!!!!' keeps beating the bejeebers out of 'Didn't love it'?
sandleford 02-29-2008, 05:32 PM I know this has probably already been mentioned, but I'm just thrilled at the pace of this season as whole. I feared this episode was going to leave me confused and wanting for an explanation of what is happening to Desmond and no one talking about the "time" discrepancies. But there was a whole bunch of people talking to each other about the "when, where and why," of the island.
Don't get me wrong, there's still a lot to be uncovered on the "how" of the island but we are definitely moving forward. And that is all I can hope for.
honeypoppy0212 02-29-2008, 05:42 PM Best episode ever, IMO! Episodes like this are why I started watching Lost in the first place! Brilliantly written! :D
merry1 02-29-2008, 05:54 PM Are we allowed to post a few dozen comments, just so the REPLIES count on 'Loved It!!!!' keeps beating the bejeebers out of 'Didn't love it'?
I'm not a mod, so I may be saying the wrong thing here (I hope not!) but I always assumed you could -- for the "didn't love it" board last week, I know a bunch of us posted a lot of comments -- mostly piggybacking off of other comments and expanding on ideas.
The way I see it, if you really really love it, or don't love it, that will be reflected in the post count, in terms of posting several times to talk about different points that you loved or hated. (As long as you don't just keep posting -- I love it a thousand times in a row ;) )
I am one of those who was in "Didn't love it" thread last week. I must say that this week's episode has made it up for "Eggtown". Great acting from Ian. Once again Daniel proved that he was a long awaited character. No other character has given us so much information. I LOVE him.
And Des-Penny contact was so touching. After all the wishy-washiness of the triangle that's been sold by the writers like a commodity for years, which is nothing more than a bad contest now, it felt so emotional, romantic yet at the same time intriguing (it was cheesy, yes but it was working for the characters while serving the overall story as well). It even brought back "Black Rock". Amazing!
islandchica 02-29-2008, 07:46 PM YAY! I'm totally psyched about this episode. It was, in a word, phenomenal.
It's risen so many questions and theories (just as Lost should!) while remaining interesting and satisfying in every sense.
Here are my thoughts, in outline form. ;)
A. Desmond's time-travel
I. Why did this happen?
1. I find it strange that he was, for lack of a better word, "transported" once before (into Penny's flat), but he didn't lose his memory until just now. Is this the same for Minkowski? How much did HE remember? What "radiation" was HE exposed to? I have a feeling we'll be seeing more of him in FBs - there's so much more to tell there!
II. Is there any significance to where/when he was transported, or was it completely random?
III. Why does Dan believe he may go through the same thing as Desmond? Id that the reason he was even of the freighter to begin with - that he knew about the time-travel scenario?
IV. Are we to assume that radiation + lightening storm = memory loss?
V. Is it all done now? Since Desmond spoke with his "constant", does that mean no more flashes?
VI. How can Desmond "go" back in time and not change the future AT ALL (i.e. Dan met him in 1996 but doesn't remember him in 2004)?
B. Desmond and Penny!
I. TOO CUTE FOR WORDS.
II. She waited for him to call for eight years!
III. She was so worried, and now she knows he's alive and okay!
IV. On Christmas Eve, no less.
V. I loved their exchange over the phone - They're so in love. Possibly my favorite scene of Lost EVER.
VI. I think Penny's the key to the Losties's ultimate rescue (not just the Oceanic 6, I mean)
C. I loved how it would cut from past to present and vice versa with NO warning - Kind of frusterating, but that's how it'd be for poor Des! Like, "BAM! '96."
And by the way, can you imagine how maddening it would be to not know where you'd be taken, when it'd happen, for how long, or what you'd be doing when you "came back"? It could be dangerous!!
D. Dan's '96 hair... LOL. Oh well, at least he got cooler. ;)
I think that's it. Whew! Talk about an exciting eppie!
Retinend 02-29-2008, 07:56 PM That was pretty freaky stuff. Absolutely gripping television. Now time travel has irreversibly become a large part of the show, I'm worrying that it'll become too pedantic and involved, especially with an audience like Lost's behind it. Right now it's fine for me, however. I loved all of the soppy Desmond and Penny stuff - I really like the idea of a prophecy as crazy as that being made and it actually coming true after such a long period of time. I guess the phone call would feel kind of lame to anyone who wasn't a big fan but I kind of felt bad for being so moved by it. I didn't really like Sayid in this episode, though, he lost his usual insightfullness (that's not a word - but it should be) and was overly aggressive for the sake of tension and drama, I felt.
It seems like so much had happened in this episode after watching it, but really there was more clarification and monumental leaps forward in terms of our understanding of the show's mythology than actual progression of the story. This season really has an unfamiliar and fresh feeling to it, with all the technology and new ideas we're out of our comfort zone. It feels like we're heading for a conclusion already.
Faraday is fast becoming one of my favourite characters on the show.
Does Desmond has his memories of the island back now, then? I know that his behaviour towards Sayid suggests it, but I kind of guessed that they would make it obvious if it were the case...
dhollmusik 02-29-2008, 08:10 PM Wow...I too had a choke at the phone scene...and I never cry. Big kudos to Penny's performance, her voice-acting was spot-on.
And this episode had a happy ending...instead of a WTF or a NO WAY or a HO HUM.
I never appreciated I care more for Des & Penny than the Jack/Kate/Sawyer triangle until now.
Well done, Lost!
Diaspar 02-29-2008, 08:20 PM What a comeback, absolutely fantastic, the best episode of LOST thus far. Faraday is a brilliant addition to the show - his entire manner is spot on. That episode was classic LOST.
entil2001 02-29-2008, 09:08 PM This episode captured my attention from the get-go, and I'm still thrilled by the implications of what we've seen. I think the former fans who abandoned the series before this season should be kicking themselves. The answers are beginning to unfold, and while there's still plenty of time left before the end (43 episodes!), there's a light at the end of the tunnel. Something tells me it will be another very long wait once this season is over!
Lost 4.5: The Constant (http://entil2001.com/series/lost/season4/lost4-5.html)
Overall, this episode continues to propel the narrative into unexpected directions while providing insight into the mysteries at the heart of the series. The episodes devoted to the character at the center of this particular storm have always been powerful and unique, and that trend is not broken by any means. The season continues to progress along the season arc with confidence and consistency.
Lobby 02-29-2008, 09:12 PM There are two great couples on the show as far as I'm concerned. One couple we saw last night -Desmond and Penny (the ending was edited perfectly). Talk of a great love story!
The other we saw in Eggtown-Ben:cool: and Locke. Yes, I loved Eggtown. Putting Ben:cool: in anything elevates the storyline. If you add Locke to the mix, I know the episode has to be great because the two actors will make it that way even if the writing is not tight.
Lost sometimes seems to be many different shows which is why it has kept my interest for so long. It's a great love story, it's a mystery, it's an adventure story and it's a sci fi tale. I love the mythology and the mystery of the show, the episodes that "progress" the storyline and those that let us catch our breath by just informing us about the character's lives. I'm not into any particular "ship" so I don't get upset if Kate is with the "wrong" angle of the love triangle that week. It's all good because it's Lost. Even a less successful Lost episode is better than 99 percent of what's out there.
I have to admit that I find Michael Emerson to be great eye candy so I'm prejudiced if he is in an episode. Even though The Constant was Benless it was so good. Desmond brings such an intensity to his stories. The climax of the story had me in tears and then I started to cry again at the ending. Desmond found a constant and became one. :sob:
On top of all that we all learned a bit about time travel!
shootingstar 02-29-2008, 09:34 PM I absolutely loved this episode.
The scenes between Des and Penny.
The time traveling thing (well not exactly time travel but I don't know what else to call it  )
The Sayid scenes were good as well.
The Daniel scenes also were very good.
Sorry if these have already been mentioned, I haven't read the entire thread yet. But I just had to post to say how much I enjoyed this episode.
Shinkansen 02-29-2008, 09:37 PM Best episode of Lost in ages. Quality acting, quality storyline, great camera-work and screenplay. More of the same plz!!!
Also nice to get a little break from the main characters (who really do seem to be getting nowhere fast)!
Eskimo Kid 02-29-2008, 10:23 PM That was so good!!!! It gave us hardcore Lost fans exactly what we so desperatly desried in the form of conclusive answers, at least in the form of what the story seems to be based on, rather than hinting at very sutble things for 4 whole seasons, we get some *in memory of Charlie* BLOODY ANSWERS!!! Woop!!!!
Michelle67 02-29-2008, 10:26 PM This eppy was a definite improvement over last week. I love Desmond and Penny and I'm really liking Daniel. It kept moving and wasn't boring like the last two episodes. The only qualm I have about it was that afterwords I got a headache trying to figure out what it all meant in the longer scheme of things. Too many theories -- too many possibilites. Needless to say I'm trying to avoid threads about time travel theories and paradoxes(I don't want another headache:biggrin:)
InfraredAD 02-29-2008, 11:28 PM Holy cow! That thing had some meat! ... won't drag on about it but... holy cow!
lockefanmike 02-29-2008, 11:44 PM one of the best epis ever. the desmond and locke epis are truly the best.
misty nichole 03-01-2008, 12:05 AM What a freaking awesome mind blowing episode!
My favorite lost episode. Ever. And that says alot!
Evenstar_lostie 03-01-2008, 01:09 AM This epi had EVERYTHING! Action, drama, suspense, fantastic story- and one of the best heart-warming, tear-jerking, romantic scenes EVER!!
Loved it!!!!
The Des and Penny story is my absolute favorite! Both actors are also doing a fantastic job.
Rheems 03-01-2008, 02:34 AM Fantastic episode. One of the series' best thus far, hands down.
Henry remains one of the most underrated and underappreciated players in this cast. And now, with the slam-dunk success of this episode, I don't think there's any denying that Desmond is very much the heart and soul of Lost right now.
The writing, the acting, the editing -- the planets all aligned for this one.
drtyfrnk 03-01-2008, 04:50 AM best episode in a while.
nice job lost :D
maxaholic 03-01-2008, 12:20 PM I absolutely loved it! It had a few answers like what the black rock is and finally Penny and Desmond getting to talk to one another.....AWESOME!!
Azaelia 03-01-2008, 12:29 PM Every time I begin to wonder about Lost and why I'm still watching it, something like this comes along. Absolutely the best one so far this season, and possibly in my top 10.
producergirl 03-01-2008, 12:29 PM Best epi in awhile! It's about time we get something substantial to chew on!
Ketch22 03-01-2008, 12:42 PM I've never posted in the Loved It/Didn't Love It threads, so this is my first. I didn't think they could equal or top FBYE, but they did with The Constant. Not only was the acting fantastic by Ian and Jeremy in particular, but the artistic aspect of the show was big-screen quality--the lighting, the editing, the directing, the writing. If Ian doesn't get an Emmy for this, I'm going to eat my shorts. And don't want to have to do that.
Some random thoughts: I'm really enjoying the additions of Frank and Daniel. I love the way Sayid was taking care of Desmond, someone he doesn't even know as well as the other Losties. I loved the phone call at the end, especially because I was afraid of Des dying (and I can't believe the writers even had me thinking that was a possibility) and because it was so nice to get something "nice" to happen to good people on the show. Des and Sayid are the only ones who really have something to go back to the real world for, so I hope they get happy endings when Lost wraps up down the road. To me, that is the real message of Lost...we reap what we sew.
i_wana_get_lost_with_starla 03-01-2008, 02:17 PM LOVED it of course, its a Des episode.. come on' now
; )
welcome back CC/DL... you guys are the best.
"Welcome to Craphole Island, ill be you host this evening" ; )
heppamies 03-01-2008, 02:22 PM Fabulous episode!
Lots of interesting plot reveals and a great love story.
merry1 03-01-2008, 03:28 PM Fantastic episode.
I so agree with this! I remember when he first appeared in Man of Science, Man of Faith -- he was so riveting, even only appearing in three episodes! When he left I was like, there is so much more I want to learn about Des -- and when I heard the finale of S2 would be his 2 HR backstory I was like "yippee!" And ever since first introducing his story with Penny in that ep, he remained one of the best, most fascinating components of the show.
FBYE and his story with Charlie last year only solidified that. Though I think there may be a "catch-22" at play here (pardon the pun ;) ) -- part of what makes him such a great character and actor is that he does have some of, if not the most intense episodes and experiences = epic love story, star-crossed lovers, time jumping, fail safe key, saving the world, saving Charlie -- just so intense, and this ep was like the epitome of that. In essence, those eps can only come once in awhile, or else we and the writers and actors would be totally burned out after about 4 weeks!
So I love the fact that when we get a Des episode, it really is an all out tour de force by Henry Ian Cusick and the writers and the whole team, but I understand we need a little filler in between too ;) I hope the writers continue to do a lot of interesting things with his character though, and especially the potential future interaction with Widmore/Penny/and now Daniel.
And definite Emmy material! For acting, directing, writing, and editing! (though my hopes may be shattered after TTLG got shut out last year -- and that ep was at least more "main stream" than this one) But one can hope!
freckles2185 03-01-2008, 04:55 PM OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!! THE BEST EPISODE OF LOST SO FAR!!!!!!! I'M ON SUCH A HIGH FROM THIS EPISODE!!!! WOW!!!!!!!!
ok now that thats out of the way, lol :)
I was waiting for an episode like this ever since that episode in season 3 - Desmonds flash back/forward after the hatch imploded....i'm so glad i didnt give up on the show....what an episode!!!! w-o-w!!! im still trying to digest everything i saw....anyway - had to get that off my chest....and one more time
WOW!!!
Long time lurker, first time poster...but all-around Lost addict.
I can't remember EVER in the history of my television-watching life being so compelled to rewatch an episode...IMMEDIATELY.
And as many other of you have commented, the Penny-Des convo was amazing! The scenes cutting back and forth were done perfectly! I admit I cry when I watch television, but that's usually a woman thing and I chalk it up to hormones. This week, however, I "blame" the magnificent drama and chemistry between these wonderful characters!
More Penny and Des!
baron_kalan 03-01-2008, 07:09 PM Wow it was so great watching such an amazing episode - great pacing, thrilling to the bone, intense as hell, with a great cast (the Daniel/Desmond/Sayid trio is fantastic) and a beautiful tear-wrenching love story...I almost cried at the end, and I would've if I had been alone !
Please please, no more filler episodes built around cheap cliffhangers, more episodes like this one! My fading interest for Lost was suddenly reborn from its ashes like the Phoenix! I want to be hooked up like this with every episode!
MarcB 03-01-2008, 10:02 PM I have to admit that I find Michael Emerson to be great eye candy...
Even though I am a happily married heterosexual male, I still have to ask the following question on behalf of all men (including Michael Emerson): WHAT!?!
notoneofus 03-02-2008, 03:02 AM love it absolutely love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! going to watch it again
great episode! IMO this episode was the best of the season so far
JohnyLockester 03-02-2008, 12:25 PM after re-watching the episode, i can confidently say that was the best episode of lost, and one of the finest hours in the history of television
OneDegreeOff 03-02-2008, 11:18 PM I really enjoyed the episode's unusually quick pace. Any other season would have went something like: Episode "A" = Penny's phone rings. Ep. "B" = Penny answers phone. Ep. "C" = Penny's phone rings and she answers again. Ep. "D" = Does not involve Desmond or Penny at all. Ep. "E" = Penny's phone rings, she answers, and Desmond responds......and so on and so on and so on.
UnsungHero108 03-03-2008, 11:58 AM It was only the best episode of anything ever.
I hope Desmond and Penny find each other!
miawallace 03-03-2008, 05:21 PM Loved it!!!!!
Maalstrom Aran 03-03-2008, 07:56 PM This was an excellent episode. Both the acting and story was amazing.
planetsong 03-03-2008, 08:34 PM Brilliant episode! Great music, and that tantalizing line from Daniel to Jack: "Your perception of how long your friends have been gone... it's not necessarily how long they've actually been gone." That explains EVERYTHING! he he ha ha ho ho
Tim Bisley 03-04-2008, 12:23 AM I loved The Constant, by far my favorite episode this season. It had my two favorite characters sharing the screen (Des and Sayid) and that lovely scene with Des and Penny almost move me to tears. :)
giulia_ricci 03-04-2008, 08:48 AM Even if I'm late and everything possible has already been said about it, I have to say it, this episode was absolutely the best so far, well written, brilliant, grand, and the Des/Penny storyline was struggling with a final scene that brought me to tears!
I definitely loved it loved it loved it!!!!!!!!!!!
telee 03-04-2008, 04:30 PM Loved It . I think one of the best
tominrichardson 03-04-2008, 05:27 PM Absolutely out of the park!!
MiniPesky 03-05-2008, 10:28 AM Absolutely fantastic, I loved the format!! I loved the fact we got answers!! I loved the fact it concentrated on some of my favourite characters!
Overall it sparked the little flame of excitement for Lost which had gone out a while ago. Lets just hope the rest are up to this standard!! :)
Occono 03-05-2008, 10:44 AM OMG xero, you're right. : ( STH, where ever you are, I hope you saw this. It was for you.
I'm confused, what happened to SaveTheHumans?
LostGirl72 03-05-2008, 03:05 PM  That was the best episode I have seen of Lost and I have seen em all!!!!! I love Desmond Hume! Now more than ever!
QueenLizzie13 03-05-2008, 10:35 PM this episode inspired some art. that's how good it was :D
<333.
islandchica 03-06-2008, 02:40 PM I'm confused, what happened to SaveTheHumans?

Back on topic: I wonder how tonight's episode will compete with The Constant! I hardly see how it can be as good, but you never know... ;)
4-8-15Evangeline 03-07-2008, 11:07 PM I am glad that Penny decided to love Desmond just enough. Lucky Desmond and his constant. And he is a constant too.
taschas_lost 03-10-2008, 04:00 AM I thought this was one of the best episodes in a while. Perfectly done. :)
lostgurl 03-11-2008, 05:43 PM Great episode, lots of excitement even though it all still confuses me. I'm not surprised that it ranked so high in the ratings thread.
misty nichole 03-11-2008, 10:21 PM This was one of the best episodes of Lost ever...if not the best.
Everything was just perfect!!!!!!! It had everything.
Action. Adventure. Sci/Fi type material, romance.
I cried and cried at the Desmond/Penny phone call....that is one of the best and most romantic storylines ever on television. BRAVO!
jheri 03-12-2008, 10:14 PM It was a Desmond epi. so I simply LOVED it.
Carn_Helving 03-17-2008, 04:36 PM Best episode of the season so far…….perhaps best episode ever!!! Though I did prefer ‘Lockdown’. I really want Desmond to meet with Penny now…..the phone call to Penny near the end of the episode was one of the best Lost moments.
MysteryFan 03-19-2008, 11:54 PM take that, quadrangle of doom!
Thank heavens there were no B-plots or comic filler. This was essentially Dan, Des and Sayid getting the job done.
This epi was amazing. It felt like watching a classic movie - not one hour of TV. The Des / Dan and Des / Sayid pairings were perfect.
Exile236 03-23-2008, 04:40 PM Little late, but I have to say this is not only my favorite episode of Lost, but it may be the finest hour of TV I have ever watched (Puppet time ~Angel). I can honestly say the character of Desmond had never really done anything for me before this episode, but now he is unquestionably my favorite. I've re-watched this episode 6 times now and it still doesn't lose it emotional resonance.
The idea of a 'Constant' seems a little hokey, and I can't imagine trying to describe the episode to anyone who wasn't a fan of the show as a reason to start watching Lost, but I was absolutely on the edge of my seat hoping that Penny would pick up the phone.
100%
Not since Walkabout in Season 1 has a single episode totally encapsulated me in one of the characters stories.
Oh and go Des/Penny reunion!
Hamburgo1001 03-24-2008, 11:21 AM This was the best episode of the season IMO. I enjoyed it from start to finish.
KDLOST 04-22-2008, 07:15 PM If every episode was this good and mind blowing I would have to retire and sit quietly in the corner rocking and pondering life every single day, brotha.
DESire 05-18-2008, 06:39 PM I loved it for bloody sake! And I'm sooo excited to watch it here again in Germany in September :). It had everything and just blew off my mind!
wsprag 06-15-2008, 03:42 PM I thought it was a great, great episode. One of the best since season two (yes, I am one of the few who loved every second of season two). The whole idea of time travel through the conscious self rather than the physical self was simply genius on the part of the writers. Great episode.
chemical_jay 06-25-2008, 11:23 PM Brilliant beyond words (but heres 4) -- riveting, stimulating, exciting, gripping...
Legit one of the top 3 episodes since the show began
