tmackmd 03-13-2008, 11:21 PM At first I was not excited about another relationship centered episode. However, I found it very moving and actually cried pretty hard at the end - and I almost NEVER cry at tv or movies! Great acting in this episode.
benmanrocky 03-13-2008, 11:26 PM Another good one!!
Aversion 03-13-2008, 11:29 PM I liked it, I thought both streams paid off well, my only criticism is that they didn't particularly sit well together, it was a little awkward.
I thought Sun's acting was great.
wolffootball37 03-13-2008, 11:35 PM i really liked it too. I had been spoiled about Michael and Jin dieing but i didnt know about the timeline (flashback/flashforward) so that was really cool. Great writing though.
Kate731 03-13-2008, 11:38 PM Great episode, although completely heartbreaking!
I also was definitely shocked by the FF/ FB. That was a great twist. (I'd already figured out Michael).
erin1679 03-13-2008, 11:41 PM I gave it a 9. I really, really liked the episode. That was a total mind-messer, and has my head spinning. Is Jin really dead? Sun seemed to really be grieving at that tombstone, but it seems that the date of death is a little off...what is up with that? I'm glad that Sun's affair is out in the open, and they moved on, and he forgave her, and that she also named his daughter as he wanted. Gosh, that scene was heartbreaking.
Yeah, we all pretty much figured out who Ben's man on the boat is...but he seems to have amnesia or something, and he's sneaking around and going by a different name...I think that is what is so interesting about that "reveal".
smilingshade 03-13-2008, 11:43 PM Good episode, overall. I really liked the flashback/flashforward twist and the acting was superb. Shame about Jin.
theMidnighter 03-14-2008, 12:02 AM Loved that Sun was watching Expose at the beginning dubbed in Korean. It was even Nikki's scene right before she was killed by Billy Dee.
gupwalla 03-14-2008, 12:23 AM I've been a fan of the Jin/Sun story since Season 1, so I was eagerly awaiting their next outing. Very good closure to their FB story and equally good set-up for whatever is to come next.
I'm going to go out on a speculation limb and say that Jin won't leave the island, and that he and Sun will be separated (again) when the O6 leave (just as they were separated when Jin went off on the raft in "Exodus"). Their ultimate reunion -- and I hope they get one -- would probably make the Tribal Merge scene blush out of inferiority.
Jin's newfound mastery of English will prove useful if he no longer has Sun around to translate for him.
KRANG 03-14-2008, 12:35 AM I really liked this episode. I don't read spoilers so to me this was all new. I can't believe people actually read spoilers, whats the point. Good writing this episode. Nothing to complain about.
brermike 03-14-2008, 12:45 AM I really enjoyed this episode. I enjoy the character-based episodes as much as the mythology-based ones. As long as they are good, since I didn't enjoy last week's as much.
I was pretty spoiled but was fully engrossed. I don't really understand how people fault the episode for being predictable or boring when they spend all their time in the spoiler section.
I have always liked the Sun and Jin relationship and their episodes. I also liked how the characters were interacting with each other and asking questions. I can totally understand why Sun decided to run to Locke's camp. She has been given no reason to think anything good will come from the freighter people, and in fact has been given numerous reasons to think only bad will come (Charlie's message, no talk of rescue, Sayid has been gone for days, gas masks, power station/chemical station plots). Plus, like she said, she really had no reason to believe Juliet. She knows of two other births that have occurred successfully on the Island (Claire and Danielle) so I can understand her skepticism.
Like I said, I had been pretty spoiled but I was surprised that Jin did not die in the flash forward. I did not pick up on Jin's being a flash back until they mentioned the year of the dragon. I knew that was in 2000 or 2001. I like how there is a mystery now about Jin. I'm guessing he either dies on the Island before rescue or is still alive and he is another part of the cover up. I'm guessing now that the final Oceanic 6 are in fact Sun and Ji Yeon or Aaron. I still think something is up with Aaron so that he is actually not part of the O6, but that remains to be seen.
I was also excited about the Michael reveal and can't wait to see his story next week. I thought they did a great job of making the freighter seem even more creepy this week. So many weird vibes. Suicide, banging, the blood stain, Lapidus taking the chopper. Very cool stuff.
Anyway, I am loving season 4 so far and glad we will get the whole story arc in the next couple months. So far The Other Woman has been the only one I didn't think was great.
sk8rpro 03-14-2008, 01:13 AM We finally get some answers (Yay!)
Jin finds about Sun's affair.
Sun survives the pregnancy.
The flight wreckage was fake, along with the bodies.
Ben was right about the freighter being owned by Charles Widmore.
Michael ($@%) is alive, and is on the freighter.
Quite a bit of answers :)
sawyer101 03-14-2008, 01:31 AM i really liked it too. I had been spoiled about Michael and Jin dieing but i didnt know about the timeline (flashback/flashforward) so that was really cool. Great writing though.
Michael didn't die?
lostgurl 03-14-2008, 01:42 AM I enjoyed this episode quite a bit. Michael returns! I'm curious about what's going on on that boat - Regina? The tapping that's coming from somewhere? An incident in the kitchen?
I hate the thought of Jin really being dead, so I'm just going to believe he's alive.
iameve 03-14-2008, 02:17 AM I LOVED this episode, personally, I think that this was my favorite episode of the season. I bawled my eyes out at the end.. Also, when Juliet told Jin about the affair I found myself yelling at the tv to Sun to punch her in the face, lol.. This episode brought out emotion in me and that's why I LOVED it!!!!!!!!!!!
Felaries65 03-14-2008, 02:23 AM "Ji Yeon" was a very emotional episode. But episodes featuring Sun and Jin usually are. It was very clever how the writer revealed that Jin's off-island POV was a flashback, whereas Sun's was a flash forward.
I know a lot of people were pissed at how Juliet had exposed Sun's affair with Jae . . . but young Ji Yeon would have never been born if she hadn't. Kate's expression of her own suspicions about Juliet didn't really help matters.
It is interesting that Jin eventually forgave Sun for the affair. His talk with Bernard must have made him realized that he had contributed to the strains in his marriage. And . . . Sun forgave Juliet for exposing her secret. I guess she realized that the latter was serious about saving her life and the baby's.
Michael's revelation aboard the freighter was handled in an odd way. Sayid and Desmond heard him before finally seeing him. By the way, Harold Perrineau looked yummy with the haircut and shave. I wonder what happened to Walt. I also wonder if Ben had deliberately given Michael directions to the freighter so that he could act as a spy.
Once it was revealed that Jin's off-island POV was a flashback, I knew he was dead. I realize the date on his headstone read September 22, 2004 - the date of the crash. But I figured that this was done to maintain the lie perputrated by the Oceanic 6 that only eight passengers had survived the crash. But I do believe that Jin will die before the series ends. If he was alive, he would have never left Sun's side.
So far, the Oceanic Six consists of the following - Jack, Hurley, Sayid, Kate and Sun. Who is Number 6?
adamh 03-14-2008, 02:43 AM I really liked this episode, although I'm sure that some viewers were confused by the FB/FF structure.
I think the writing this season has really been great.
Blue Coral 03-14-2008, 09:08 AM Okay, reading the previous posts I now know it was a FB AND a FF. I was very confused at the end, I was like...he's dead? But didnt they just show him...? NOW IM REALLY SAD!!!!
The episode was really good though. Finally closing up the chapter on Sun keeping the affair a secret and it was sweet how Jin forgave her and the FF was really sweet. AND OMGWTFMICHAEL??!! Great ep.
lostlocke 03-14-2008, 10:28 AM Loved the episode. I wasn't shocked at Michael being on the ship, but was very surprised to see that Jin was dead in the flashforward. As soon as Hurley said let's go see Jin, or whatever he said I knew they would be visiting a grave. Since Sun was the last of the Oceanic 6. That was very sad, I am not looking forward to the moment where we actually see him die. That will be even worse.:crybaby: After saying all of that, I did like the episode. I am so happy Sun made it off of the island and had her baby safely. I predicted that she would be one of the O6, and I was right!
i_wana_get_lost_with_starla 03-14-2008, 10:53 AM Didnt hate it, and thought it was better than average.. so I guess I loved it lol.
Great episode.
"Do I get one?"
mise-en-scene 03-14-2008, 10:54 AM i really liked it too. I had been spoiled about Michael and Jin dieing but i didnt know about the timeline (flashback/flashforward) so that was really cool. Great writing though.
Ummmm... spoiler much?

Agreed. These were highlights of the epi and I was very happy with the writing/acting/directing/editing. Overall, one of the best of the season.
aeasmmikey 03-14-2008, 11:01 AM ...I like how there is a mystery now about Jin. I'm guessing he either dies on the Island before rescue or is still alive and he is another part of the cover up. I'm guessing now that the final Oceanic 6 are in fact Sun and Ji Yeon or Aaron....
We were told that the last person in the O6 was going to be revealed, so it couldn't have been Ji Yeon - she wasn't born when they were rescued anyway.
Jin'd death explains why, in Jack's testimony at Kate's trial, he said that 8 survived the crash but 2 died before rescue; Jin is obviously one, but who is the other? The mystery father of "Kate's" baby Aaron?
Michelle67 03-14-2008, 12:40 PM So Lost redeemed itself. This week was much better than last week. There was just enough back and forth between the Sun/Jin storyline and the freighter so that the overall story didn't get bogged down like it did last week.
The scene with Sun at Jin's grave was phenominal. My eyes were definitely not dry.The reveal about Michael being Ben's man on the boat was not such a surprise as most everyone had already guessed it but it played well especially Sayid and Michaels handshake. Does Micheal really want to see that look in Sayid's eyes? Me thinks not!
Felaries65 03-14-2008, 01:20 PM Does Micheal really want to see that look in Sayid's eyes? Me thinks not!
What do you mean about that?
gupwalla 03-14-2008, 02:14 PM Ummmm... spoiler much?
I just want to clarify here:
The O.P. was spoiled about Michael [returning to the show] and the O.P. was also spoiled about Jin dying.
There is no spoiler material that gives any hint as to whether Michael's character will live or die through upcoming episodes.
(And I hope it's not a spoiler to say that there are no spoilers...gosh, my brain hurts.)
Zatherran 03-14-2008, 02:44 PM there isnt a epi that I do not like.. this one blew me out of the water.. it pays to be spoiler free.... the only words that came out of mouth during the whole show were..
those are chains... wht_, and you B ds for making me cry.. for doing that to sun...
and Juilet got off easy in my eyes with just a slap across the face.. it had been me, it would have been all the way from detroit - pow....
sometimes the emotional impact is much better than a visual.. and this held some serious emotional weight... the woman allowed to end her suffering.. the calmness of everyone around.
excellent i give it a 10.
mise-en-scene 03-14-2008, 02:53 PM I just want to clarify here:

Yeah. I realized that later on in the day. The wording made it look like Michael was going to die. Heh.
gupwalla 03-14-2008, 05:01 PM What do you mean about that? [referring to: Does Michael really want to see that look in Sayid's eyes?]
I think the poster was saying that Sayid's line, "Glad to meet you...Kevin" and the accompanying cold steel look in his eyes was really meant to be translated by the viewer as "So nice to see you again, Michael, especially since I have long regretted missing the opportunity to extract vengeance on you for killing Ana Lucia and Libby and letting Ben return to the Others. Now that I suddenly and unexpectedly have an opportunity to shove splinters under your fingernails and force you to regret with anguish every molecule of oxygen you inhale, I am finally starting to have a good day."
sabben 03-14-2008, 05:07 PM I really loved how well they did the interwoven flash forward and flash back sequences with Sun and Jin!! That was just brilliantly done. I also thought they did a very good job on the highly emotional ending of the episode.
CarpeDiem23 03-14-2008, 05:26 PM yeah i admit i'd choked a few beers but i really felt emotional at the end of the ep. Mainly due to the fact i've always loved Jin, his conflicts are interesting and i've just loved him learning English, Daniel has played it so well!
driveshaft76 03-14-2008, 05:36 PM Good episode. Definetly a step above last weeks. Not quite as good as Jin / Sun episodes of the past. I kind of guessed the Jin flashback, versus Sun's flashforward thing though it was still neatly done, although Jin's flashback proved pretty pointless, and only served as kind of a Gotcha! to the viewers.
The only thing I really didn't like watch the whole soap-opera-y Juilet scene. Seemed really lame for her to tell Jin that she had an affair. Oh, and Jin picking up English so quickly seems like a stretch, but I like it.
The Jin / Bernard scenes and Sun / Hurley scenes were gold.
I really hope Jin is still alive and stuck on the island, and not dead as it appeared to be.
I'd give the eppy a solid 7.
James25 03-14-2008, 06:56 PM I think this episode demonstrates exactly why they should give the ball to Yunjin more often.
It was also nice to hear Jin and Sun's love theme again, and I like how this season seems to be establishing that sort of thing with several pairings (Jack and Juliet, Kate and Sawyer, Jin and Sun).
JoZay 03-14-2008, 07:23 PM I didn't love it but I liked it. I especially thought the flash forward/flashback was very neat.
However :frown: I'm really sad to know that Jin will die or has died......whichever.
Uvajed 03-14-2008, 09:05 PM I gave it a 7, but should have given it an 8 after further thought. I loved the FB-FF scenes, Sun was great at the cemetery. It took me a while to figure it out and didn't realize it until the ambassador's baby scene. I was so engrossed with the tail. The drawback is, the childbirth scene was unrealistic, as typical for any TV/Movie production. I wonder what Desmond is thinking about all this Widmore stuff? That'll be interesting to see play out.
recursive prophet 03-14-2008, 09:52 PM I thought this was the best episode of the season for many reasons.
Uvajed 03-14-2008, 09:55 PM I thought this was the best episode of the season for many reasons.
I'd love to hear your reasons!
MysteryFan 03-14-2008, 10:11 PM Jin finally found out Sun's secret, and recovered. I loved how he said I forgive you, and then asked if the baby is his. I was crying for him at that moment. The gravesite scene crushed me. The episode was fantastic - I loved seeing Jin in so many situations, from happy to devastated to vulnerable and heart-breaking to comedic . . . I love this character and DDK's portrayal! Oh, and Sun is good too :) I loved how she confronted Daniel Faraday and Juliet.
I liked seeing a greater variety of characters in this episode than we've seen lately.
I also loved the freighter things - like, the boat isn't moving , Ben set up the fake 815 and where'd he get the dead bodies , Michael's back, Regina's freaky behavior and suicide. Good stuff! A lot to appreciate and resolve emotionally. Hey, I really like Jin!! For the Kwons - a 10.
Dublin Dilettante 03-15-2008, 02:32 AM I wasn't spoiled on the FF/FB combo and it suckered me big time. At first I didn't put two and two together and assumed Jin had remarried post-island until I saw his grave.
This, to me, was classic Lost. Even if we ignore the worst kept secret in TV history (Michael's return), the action on the freighter was taut, fast-paced, introduced us to promising new characters and pushed the narrative along. The romantic scenes between Jin and Sun exposed the infernal quadrangle for the stilted and implausible charade it is; there's genuine and evident love between these characters, beautifully written and performed.
Jin's flashback served a definite purpose; it reminded us why we care about these characters and about their relationship. We're a long way into the story now, pre-island flashbacks are scarce and it's nice to be reminded that these people, like all of us, had lives and hopes and aspirations of their own before events overtook them. To see Jin so carefree and full of optimism at the end of his flashback, little suspecting the trials and traumas and ultimate fate which awaited him, really tugged on my heart-strings. I don't know how anyone who's been following the series for any length of time could fail to be moved by it. A top episode.
Retinend 03-15-2008, 11:15 AM I got kind of freaked out when Hurley walked in and embraced Sun with a creepy look on his face, but luckily the writers weren't that insane. It's pretty awful to watch Jin now, knowing that he's a goner. The Freighter stuff was really good - every actor they've got on that boat looks seriously untrustworthy, even the doctor looks like a barroom thug. The moment of realisation when Michael and Sayid/ Desmond meet was totally badass
MysteryFan 03-15-2008, 01:39 PM I think the poster was saying that Sayid's line, "Glad to meet you...Kevin" and the accompanying cold steel look in his eyes was really meant to be translated by the viewer as "So nice to see you again, Michael, especially since I have long regretted missing the opportunity to extract vengeance on you for killing Ana Lucia and Libby and letting Ben return to the Others. Now that I suddenly and unexpectedly have an opportunity to shove splinters under your fingernails and force you to regret with anguish every molecule of oxygen you inhale, I am finally starting to have a good day."
:sayid:Sayid sure packs a lot into a look, doesn't he? lol Great interpretation of the subtext!
Lost_In_Louisiana 03-15-2008, 04:27 PM Just thought I'd add another post to the Loved It thread!
I like all of Sun & Jin's episodes. I don't know why other people think they are boring???
This one had some great scenes on the ship too - can't wait to see what Michael's story is!

I have to agree. Jin is one of my favorites (Sun too) and I have enjoyed their storyline and Jin's struggles on the island. I personally think we don't see enough of their story anymore, but the same could be said about most the losties these days.
my only gripe with this episode was seeing Jin's grave
LostGirl72 03-15-2008, 07:00 PM At first I was not excited about another relationship centered episode. However, I found it very moving and actually cried pretty hard at the end - and I almost NEVER cry at tv or movies! Great acting in this episode.
I agree, that was one of the most ouching episodes yet of the series.:frown:
Darbi 03-15-2008, 11:30 PM I don't believe enough is made of the acting talents of the Kim's, but this episode once again showcased just how invaluable, IMO, they are to this show. Even when the writing isn't as strong (no one writes for the Kim's/Kwon's quite the way Javier did) as their previous episodes, they're acting talents more than made up for any deficiencies. The freighter storyline was way creepy. And the Michael reveal was expected, but played very well by Harold, Naveen and Ian. The captian was hot. ;) The chick walking off the side of the boat tripped me out. What has happened to these people, and just how did Benry come about 324 bodies? :eek2: Juliet blurting out that Sun had an affair was definitely a, "Oh, no she di'ent," moment. :biglaugh: But I completely understand why she did it, and thank goodness. That babies face has taken a literal beating the past couple of days. *hugs Juliet*. Kate's hair wasn't that big this week. Hope she's not so snitty in the next episode. Ji Yeon is adorable. "Uncle" Hugo looks pretty good in a suit. Yunjin owes me a box of tissues.
Jack Sawyer 03-15-2008, 11:38 PM Just thought I'd add another post to the Loved It thread!
I like all of Sun & Jin's episodes. I don't know why other people think they are boring???

Ditto! I just realized I hadn't posted in here yet.
Loved the episode, every bit of it, from Sun and Jin's drama to the awesome stuff on the Freighter (especially the Freighter). Good job to Stephen Stemel. This was his first effort as director!
Symbea 03-16-2008, 07:43 PM Probably my second favourite of the season. I haven't had a good emotional episode like that since season 1. Nice to see a character based story heading it with the creepy stuff taking a sideline like the old days. If we're going to have fillers like last weeks, they should at least be made like this so we can feel absorbed in the characters.
jaybone 03-17-2008, 03:18 AM It was a good episode, but easily my least favorite out of the Sun/Jin episodes. The look on Sayid's face when he met "Kevin Johnson" was priceless!
dharmapala 03-17-2008, 11:57 AM loved it loved it loved it.I give it a 10.Jin and sun so moving, what fantastic acting. What a beautiful baby, and to think jin will never see her,so sad.Micheal was no surprise, but can't wait to see how he got on the boat, and what he can actually do for Ben.I'm starting to think now that Ben and the 'hostiles' are the good guys, gaurdians of the secrets of the universe.Another fantastic episode of lost,I am never dissapointed.
JDisLost 03-17-2008, 04:11 PM I thought this was one of the best dramatic episodes we've gotten in ages. The stuff with the Kwans was very well done, the flashbacks/forwards were interesting, and we had all of the weird stuff going on on the boat.
aeasmmikey 03-17-2008, 07:15 PM It might just be because I watched the subliminal mind-control video a few times over last night (Season 3 Easter Egg) but I can now say that I loved it - even the parts I didn't really like.
MyLost 03-20-2008, 08:12 PM I think the poster was saying that Sayid's line, "Glad to meet you...Kevin" and the accompanying cold steel look in his eyes was really meant to be translated by the viewer as "So nice to see you again, Michael, especially since I have long regretted missing the opportunity to extract vengeance on you for killing Ana Lucia and Libby and letting Ben return to the Others. LOL I love Sayid, you have him dead on!
Grasshopper 03-25-2008, 11:33 PM I really liked this epi i wasnt fully sure wat was happening for a while but it was a flashback and flash forward....made me so sad tho i love Jin.....:(
There have been better episodes on this show, but I still loved it.
