All i can say is...WoW. What a great episode. What a great way to introduce some new characters. I wont say too much right now. Still 10 minutes to go...

10 outta 10.

I'm giving it a 9. It was a very good ep. The pace was excellent and the tension was perfect. I also loved that they fit in all the freighties "backstory" in one ep. They gave just enough to get me into them and want to know more later. As usual there are 10 questions for every 1 thing figured out but that's part of the charm. Overall, many good moments and I'm eager for more next week.

Good job! :D

If you don't rate this epi at least a nine you should probably move on and find a new addiction, because you won't like any episode they make.

I gave it a 7. Interesting episode but lots of set up. I'll be more eager to see how these new characters play out. Good Ben info dump at the end, great scene when Juliet and Sayid sneak in with the guns. But yeah, set up for a bigger payoff. I'm definitely leaving room at the top for that!

I gave it a 9...can I stay and watch more Lost?

A very good episode for Lost lovers. As I watched the episode, I wondered why some critics (who had previewed the show) were thinking when they gave this episode a lukewarm reception. Perhaps there's some critic "cred" to be earned by being hypercritical about a successful show or director. Mind you, I too have criticized episodes of Lost in the past--particularly those episodes I thought were stuffed with filler back when TPTB didn't know how long the series would stretch out. But now that they know how many episodes are left, they have given us two very good episodes to start out season 4.

I liked the introduction of the new characters as well as the new characters themselves. I don't have a favorite, although the pilot, being the last to be introduced, didn't have enough screen time for me to make a definitive judgment about him.

There was so much information given in this episode that it's hard for me to wrap my head around much of it this early. When I say, "information," I mean "Lost information"--not actual answers, of course, but information that supports (or not) existing theories or will lead to the creation of new ones.

I continue to enjoy the work of the entire cast of Lost, and we have some newcomers that are promising as well.

From the boards, I've learned that people enjoy Lost for different reasons. I enjoy the mystery and the drama, and this episode really worked for me. It will be interesting to see how others feel about the episode. Say, for instance, the shippers. Will they start to lose interest if Lost continues its path of increased story telling and less focus on relationships? And by that, I don't mean that the relationships are not part of the story of Lost, so shippers, don't get mad at me and beat me like Ben.

Enjoyed it immensely--trying to hold back the 10s for big season finales or particularly stand-out episodes this season.

Great comments. That's very much how I feel about the show, and LOST in general.

I dont give out many 10's, but with that much excitement, that much suspense, plus all that "LOST information" and the inevitable questions that follow, I felt it deserved it. Just loving these new characters; not at all what I expected to see happen. I love how the ball is rolling (so much! so fast!) this season. Terrific.

Can it give it an 11? Just this once? That was an awesome episode... not one single wasted second anywhere.

Drew Goddard is god, and Brian K. Vaughn rocks. Together, they are both gods and they both rock!

With four new characters being introduced, I was afraid I wouldn't even be able to keep their names straight. As it turned out, they gave us just enough factual information about each of them - and about the team - to get us intrigued, but better than that they managed to give us an excellent sense of each of their personalities. One flashback per character was an inspired way to go about the task of introducing them, while still moving the story ahead on the island. Brilliant! I'm fascinated by all four of them and can't wait to see more.

Kudos to Stephen Williams for his excellent direction as well. The pacing was perfect and there were some shots that were absolute genius. There's one shot, just after Frank told them he landed the chopper safely "over there", where we see the group come up over the crest of the hill - Jack, Juliet, Kate and Sayid, followed by the Boaties. We've been seeing that very same shot in all the promos, and what a great moment it is. They look down and see the chopper all safe and snug in the valley. Right after that is a sequence of close-ups: Jack, then Juliet, Kate, Sayid - and they all have the same slightly creepy almost-smile on their faces. I swear that right that second, each one of them looks as though he/she would be willing to personally kill all the rest just to get a ride off the island in that chopper. Whoa. EMFH, in four close-ups.

So much to love about this episode - I'm sure I'll be raving for days.. but I'll stop there for now. Great job, everyone. It deserves an 11 on 10.

I didn't really read EMFH in their faces, but more of a cautious optimism. Rescue is so close they can taste it and they all want to shout and celebrate, but after all the set backs they're afraid to actually believe it. The pilot has already stated he can make more than one trip so I really didn't get a sense that any of them were thinking, "Me first! Me first!" But if they are going into EMFH mode it will be interesting to watch what each is willing to do to secure a seat on that helicopter.

I gave the episode a 6. Loved Miles and Daniel and the new questions raised, but found many of the scenes with the 815ers almost boring and often silly or uncharacteristic.

Of course Ben is the one cracking Team Locke, why do you think Jack so willingly handed him over to him?

But, Team Locke isn't a team. It's a group Losties that are just scared and confused enough for Locke to be able to manipulate, but I suspect that won't last long because Sawyer isn't scared or confused, he's just not interested in being rescued and you never know, maybe the conman is working one of his better cons.

Amazing...felt a little bit like a setup at times, but WOW. Better than last week. It had some answers, even more questions, but what else would someone expect from Lost. I really am intrigued by Daniel. He seems a little off. And as always, in my opinion, Michael Emerson and Terry O'Quinn stole the show.

That was GREAT. Kept me engaged the whole time. I'll have to watch it again to explain why. LOL Great job by Goddard and Vaughn.

I want more!

ETA - I loved that we got to see not only the new cast members, but almost all the regulars too. And I loved what they did with Sawyer - rather than moving him from "bad" (and I use that term loosely) "good" - instead he's engaging in the group, rather than sitting back and slacking off. I've been waiting for some character growth in that direction. ;) And I LOVE that he's not following Locke blindly. I think he's the only one really speaking up in that group, except for Claire's attempt. LOL

The writers, director and cast did an excellent job. I couldn't ask for anything more out of an episode. This epi left me smiling and content, but ready for more. Not that feeling of emptiness I had after some past epis.
The freighters introductions were smart, informative and quick. We got enough info to let us know all four of them and some of their motiviations in ONE episode. We got what(who) the freighters were sent for. We got that Naomi meant by "Tell my sister I lover her" I mean I could go on and on.

Also there was humor, action, the SKJ & J love quadrangle, etc. I just feel like we were let loose the candy store. HE - HE!!

The one thing I really noticed is how wary Jack's team and Locke' team were of the freighters. Everyone treated them warily instead warm and welcoming. Meanwhile the freighters seemed frazzled and naive. (Except for the guy from the XMen) It really pointed out the our Lostees have changed a lot from their first day on the island. The freighters kind of made me think of the 1st day Lostees.

GREAT episode. 10, 10, 10!

I think I enjoyed it more than last week because last week Naomi's death was Stupid with a capital S.

It flowed well, there was no wasted fillertime, the new people can act and Ben is absolutely delicious. Jack and Sayid rocked my fangirl world and there was some good comic relief that didn't feel forced, which isn't always the case with LOST.

It gets a nine from me. I had two classic LOST moments and they both involved Charlotte. The first, obviously C.S. Lewis' polar bears (nice one, writers!) and the second her Spiderwoman entrance on the Island. That was a great scene.

I gave it a 10!!! I thought it was a great episode. The story was progressed and there wasn't a bunch of beginning of the season filler material. Yeah some of it was setup but it was GREAT setup!! I thought the use of the flashback to tell us about who our four new characters are was totally awesome. The new people bring a lot to this island and the show actually feels like it's going in a completely new direction. I love how they are confronting the storyline concerning the finding of the plane in the Sunda Trench and how they incorporated that from the Find815.com online game. Everyone hear the Christiane 1 reference???...perfect. WHEN ARE WE GOING TO SEE SAM???

Best moment....when Charlotte finds the Hydra Station logo on the piece of wood underneath the polar bear skeleton in her flashback. This is the first time on the show we've seen Dharma off the island and that was great!!!

And one more thing I wanted to mention. I think it's great how this season in the first few episodes we are seeing ALL or most of the Losties, even if they are split up. ALL of them are involved in the storytelling and we're getting more group stuff. Whereas in the last two seasons at the beginning, they take usually the first three episodes to really circle all the groups and catch us up on what is going on. They would take an entire episode to focus on only ONE group of our Losties while we had no idea what was going on with the rest of them. This season is totally different. We are seeing all of our people and seeing what they go through and how they go through it. It's amazing and I'm SO glad it's like this now.

GREAT EPISODE....can't wait for next week!!!!!

The Ghostbuster character makes me worry that some of the things in the show are going to be simply explained as ghosts. If it turns out that Jacob and the smoke monster are just ghosts it would ruin the show. That would basically be a non-explanation.

10/10 for me too!! These new characters seem more fresh and adaptable compared to most new characters that came on the show.. I think. Maybe, because they came from the outside world.. and this is the first time we actually see them walking on the island.

I like how adventurous this episode was as well. From Daniel (our 1st rescuer) being pushed out from the helicopter and meets Jack and Kate.. to Miles (our 2nd rescuer) leaving the helicopter, and falling from the sky to the ground.. to Charlotte (our 3rd rescuer) falling into the tree and than falling into the river.. than lastly.. to Frank (our 4th rescuer) who landed the helicopter and met up with his team and Jack and Kate later.

I like how they did these scenes. How they put it all together.. it was done so well! The storyline for each character was well thought out too. I enjoyed their mind blowing flashbacks. Something we would have never seen without them coming on the show!!

All the other scenes with Jack, Kate, Hurley, Locke, Sayid, and the others were great too!! :) Not to forget them! They all deserve an applause for all the amazing and memoriable acting they did in all of the Seasons so far.

Its great to see how far this show has come.

I had to give this one a 10...I was on the edge of my seat almost the entire time. So much tension it was almost unbearable. Lots of information, my head almost exploded when they showed the Dharma collar on the polar bear buried in Tunisia?? Were there answers? That might have been one, and we just don't know how to interpret it yet. The light not scattering right? Was that a clue? Should be some interesting theories to come out of this

Definitely a 9.5! This episode should have been the opener as it was very entertaining and had one of the best openings ever with the plane wreckage. Plus we got to add some intriguing new characters and got a bit of their backstory before we even met them. This was one of the best episodes of LOST. I hope this episode sets the tone for the rest to come.

I gave it an 8, and left me wanting more...
I agree with most about the introduction of the new characters, and I loved most of Losties involvement with them.
Point of concern - how quick to judge & jury Sawyer and Locke are becoming. Death is an absolute, and has always been treated quite well within the show until late (re: S3 finale deathfest). I worry when I see Sawyer and Locke willing to execute Ben on no more than their own judgement.
I am not against a character dying. I believe Charlie's death, while sad, was handled beautifully. I just don't our Losties becoming individual Rambos.

That aside, both episodes so far have been fantastic, plot reveals well-timed, and character interaction fluent and natural. Another A+ to the writers...

Absolutely fantastic. Started off with a huge bang, and ended with a big bang too. The middle was filled with tension, action.

I loved how the episode kept switching perspectives, it just kept it moving along so freshly. Because of the sheer amount of different POV's i'll be able to watch this episode at least 5-6 times without getting bored.

10 TOTALLY AWESOME 10.

I thought it was fun with all the new information with the new characters and trying to figure out why they are there (other than Ben). It was totally creepy. I loved the look on Juliet's face when they realized she was a "native" (how cool). Her looked was pleading to her "new" friends to help her. The issue between locke and hurley about where the cabin really was, are there two cabins, or did the island make hurley imagine the cabin in the wrong place because he's special. and the helicopter scene. when i saw that helicopter, i felt like one of the survivors seeing that thing for the first time. it was AWESOME!!!

i cannot wait for the rest of the episodes and hope that the writers fix this strike so we can continue with lost way after the 8th episode and FAST!!

I gave this episode a very solid 8 because I think there is still room for more WOW and SQUEE and OMGWTF moments :)

Loved:
- the new characters and their individual quirks... and the vagueness of their intentions. So they're there to get Ben? Really?! What does Ben have to do with them all being so sad upon learning that Oceanic 815 had been found and that there were (supposedly) no survivors? Can't wait for more revelations...
- Faraday and Lapidus. They seem to be genuinely nice men... and so sensitive! How can they be evil?!
- Sawyer! Wow... don't ever want to be on HIS bad side :) but then again... maybe I do :naughty:
- Locke's kidney. What a great redemption for that silly "Honey-Dad-stole-my-kidney" storyline. Now I'm glad Anthony took it!!!
- Ben. He needs to be around for a looooooong time to mesh things up!!
- Jack. "I don't know - How stupid are you?" Bwahahahaha. Best line of the evening.
- Hurley's confession that he saw the shack and John's/Ben's reaction to it...
- Locke in the rain.
- Cowbell!!

Didn't love:
- Charlotte. Cranky lady... not nice.
- The vibe I'm getting that Locke is wrong... again.
- No Desmond?!

You have got to be kidding me!!!!! This may have been the best constructed Lost episode I have ever seen. Very few loose ends and lots of clarifications. The guy who visited Hurley is real and not a apparition, Naomi had no sister and was giving out a code, Locke is not superman (you've got to love the way they actually got mileage out of the kidney transplant.) They did an excllent job of introducing four new characters and they still put enough out there to keep us guessing?

why do they want Ben? where did the cow come from? Who staged the fake 815 footage?

But best of all they set up the rest of Season Four as Losties vs. Losties

Freakin' awesome episode!!! Just WOW! This is why I love Lost... The mystery, the action!

Locke back to weather-predicting, and quarrelling with Sawyer like old married couple haha! They seem to share a bond since the Brig.

Juliet and Sayid working together!

And the boaties... not quite what I expected, much much better. They seem so out of place, they are gonna be major trouble!

And the freaky black dude, who is not Oceanic!

And Naomi was supposed to be their surrogate-mother... :21:

Oh, I'm blown away. 10.

This was such a well-paced and well crafted episode that perhaps I should have given it a 9 (instead of an 8). It was really well done.

I really liked how the four characters were introduced, and with just a few quick flashbacks we have a broad view of these people. Granted, it can all be switched around later, but my first impressions:

Daniel: He's kind of like the Losties' Hurley. He seems sweet and protective and not necessarily trying to do anything nasty.

Miles: He's a hot head with "Ghost Whisperer" issues. I can see him being a problem in the future.

Charlotte: I liked her the least. She seems way too smug for my taste.

Frank: LOVE him! Welcome to Lost, Jeff Fahey! (I have always loved him as an actor) With regard to his character, Frank seems like a decent guy. More importantly, he KNOWS that the plane at the bottom of the ocean is not Oceanic 815. He also seems to have done his homework regarding the names on the manifest. We also know he's a drunk and a pilot. Frank knew from the very beginning that TPTB were lying about the plane going down. Frank was studying how a plane would submerge with his fish tank, and he ascertained that it would turn upside down - not right side up, as it did - as if it was 'placed' there.

The episode was great, and the hour flew by. I'm glad that Jack's team was immediately cautious and suspicious of their "rescuers." There was no blind following on anyone's part. Everyone from Jack to Kate to Sayid to Juliet all had their feelers out regarding these people. I really love watching Jack and Sayid working together. I enjoy the dynamics between them.

I noticed that while Miles was working on his phone, Jack noticed that someone had come up in the jungle. You could tell from the way he reacted, and then he winks at Kate, which Kate should have picked up on because it was out of the ordinary. "Why would he be winking?" Jack then makes his move with Miles and Daniel ordering them to disarm, while Sayid and Juliet counter Miles' "How stupid do you think I am?!" with some well-aimed shots. "I don't know, how stupid are you?" Great line.

It was interesting to see one group back at the beach, waiting and relaxing. No tension or craziness while on the other end of the island, Locke's team seemed pretty volatile. Everyone was on edge. Ben was already starting his mind games on Sawyer, and Locke was already tending to his own agenda by diverting everyone to the cabin instead of Othersville. It was nice that Sawyer was not blindly following Locke without questioning him. On the other hand, why WOULD Sawyer follow Locke and Ben if he strongly suspects that Ben is plotting to do them all in. Sawyer's line of "It's only a matter of time before he gets us, Johnny, and I bet he's already figured out how he's going to do it" was downright creepy. Why would Sawyer follow them and why would he want to stay on the island? I just don't see how that is surviving, especially when Sawyer already seems to believe that Ben is going to "get them." Another curious thing about Locke's group: Why would Locke want Ben to come with them after he shot Locke, and why would the group WANT Ben with them after hearing about it? One moment Locke is protecting Ben from being killed by Sawyer (with his daughter there) and in the next moment, Locke WANTS to kill Ben (with his daughter STILL there).

I was also surprised that Locke didn't know what Smokey was nor did Ben. I always got the impression that both men had communed with Smokey and understood it on some level, but apparently not. Lastly, why didn't Hurley want Locke or Ben (or anyone) to know he saw the cabin? At first I thought it was because Hurley didn't want them to think he was crazy, but Locke didn't mind admitting it. I don't think Hurley trusts them.

My other thought concerns Ben. He's been spewing that the freighters are evil and will mean the end of everyone and yet he has a man on the freighter feeding him information. So Ben has been involved with the freighters on some level before and in communication with the guy on the boat. Once again, Ben knows more than he's telling. He knows that they are after him, which also explains why he didn't want Jack making the call. Of course, we don't have all the information, but my biggest question is why do they want Ben? Maybe they want him dead. Also, why aren't the freighters surprised to meet up with survivors of Oceanic 815? Another answer I'm looking forward to hearing.

I'm going to have to go rewatch it again, and I'm sure I'll have more questions and observations. It was really a good episode, and all the characters and interactions were wonderful. I was glad to see that none of the Losties were blindly following anyone; their all on guard. Nice.

Maxum,

I think you made some really good observations and raised some interesting questions. If you haven't already, you should definitely post them in other threads (perhaps in the theories section) to see what other posters are thinking.

I still feel overwhelmed by the episode. And just plain confused. A lot of set up, yet a lot of answers and a lot of movement. I liked having Juliet and Sayid kicking butt and working together. They are a great pair. I love that there is a freakin' helicopter on that island.

But so many new characters, so much fragmented back story.... it was a bit much for me. I think I'm going to give it a 7 and then see how I feel about the episode again after the rest of the season unwinds itself. It's not that this was a bad episode, by any means. But.... it was just a big change from traditional format for me. It was very unexpected, and that's not a bad thing, I'm just not sure I LOVED it.

I couldnt watch again right after.. still felt shaking over everything. think the most disturbing part was sawyer with ben.. something dark and primitive was there. really bothered me. I remember liking Locke at first, but gradually found him to so self promoting and centered. I can only say it was awsome epi..

Fantastic episode for the most part, the character of Charlotte prevents it from getting full marks from me though as I don't think her performance was on par with the other new arrivals, she became very unlikable very quickly. Of course that's in part due to her role but the actress seemed to be trying too hard as well.

I liked it even more than last week's, so a 10 for me. :)

Once again Ben had the best line of the week. "Karl, if you're going to sleep with my daughter, I insist you call me Ben." :roflmao:

ETA: woohoo! i made it to busines class.

I gave this episode a very solid 8 because I think there is still room for more WOW and SQUEE and OMGWTF moments :)

Loved:
...- Sawyer! Wow... don't ever want to be on HIS bad side :) but then again... maybe I do :naughty: ... (deleted part of quote)

Didn't love:
- Charlotte. Cranky lady... not nice.
- The vibe I'm getting that Locke is wrong... again.
- No Desmond?!

I gave it an 8 also--partly because my husband was loudly cooking pancakes and bacon while I was trying to watch the show (so I was a bit irritated):frown: and partly because I didn't like Charlotte and hope she isn't around very long. She's like another Juliet or Kate--I don't trust any of them.

Also, how many times in one day can they beat Ben to a pulp? He recently had surgery and is a wimpy sort anyway so how much physical abuse can he take?

Otherwise, the episode was good and the new character flashbacks were interesting, esp. the polar bear skeleton and Dharma emblem at the dig site. Obviously someone is trying to get revenge on Ben for annihilating the Dharma group back in the day OR there is something they want on the island and Ben and his connections have been blocking access to the island for years.

Why the oceanic crash was covered up remains to be seen...
Locke, who has been a favorite, is giving me the creeps now...
Sawyer and Sayid absolutely rule!!! ;) Oh and Vincent too. :biggrin:I hope it's replayed next week before the new episode so I can watch it again sans the sound of pots and pans and bacon sizzling.

10.
this episode couldn't have been better.
the pace was good, the flashbacks of the new characters was intriguingly fantastic, the Losties themselves were great -- Sayid & Juliet ambushing the freighters was one of the best moments in this episode. Locke & his questions -- hilarious. was that a shoutout to the fans? LOL. Ben & his sneaky ways -- totally rocked!!! he's the most awesome evil (?) character!! the new questions -- more interesting than ever!
Overall this ep was very well put together & i so so love it.

yay to LOST!!

Last week deserved the 4 I gave it, very dissapointing, this week fully deserved the 10. What an amazing episode... I was smiling all the way through it, Charlotte bugged me slightly but not as much as Penny, Naomi, Ana Lucia, Libby, etc. when they were introduced... this was a top par episode and when I make my next "top 5" this will be a serious contender

I gave it a 6. Overall, I loved the episode-- really exciting, liked Charlotte and Faraday a lot, etc. So that was worth an 8 or 9. But the idea of Miles being able to talk to the dead... ruh-roh. I'll be very seriously disappointed if the mythology starts including the supernatural. So that was making me think of 3 or 4. So, I averaged it to a 6....:ohwell:

10 for 10.
I was so happy that they finally showed us the "wreckage", and the new characters are great. Plus the whole Hydra thing was mind blowing, and as usual.. Terry's acting was top notch.

I rated it 7, I liked it, but it lacked the excitement of the premiere, and so far I don't like the characters of Miles and Charlotte. The team Locke scenes were my favorites, I agree with Sawyer that Ben must be up too something, can't wait to find out what. :)

A good episode overall but I think the best is yet too come.

Difficult call between 7 and 8. I was leaning toward the 7, but after watching it four times, I think that is just because it was so different. Lots of FB for lots of people, plus that Charlotte is annoying. She might take the #1 creepy award from Ben; I'm waiting until next week to form a final decision on that one.
Fascinating to see the plane at the bottom of the trench. Someone went to a lot of work to make it seem 815 was there. That part fascinated me.

10/10

I thought it was another terrific episode, I really like the new characters and the way they were introduced. I am not sure what to think, however I am leaning towards the opinion that the four sent in for the rescue are not there to hurt the Lostaways. I think Abbadon has an agenda, all his own and Ben still is the biggest threat. I am really intrigued to see what happens next.

Wavering between 9 & 10 - loved the introduction of the new characters and the hydra on the polar bear's collar was a great "Whoa!" moment! Love the new track for this Season and I really love that the mystery is back. Can't wait for next week!!

i liked it better than last weeks. i still think they could have fitted last week's amount of story into five minutes of episode.

i really like the new guys, except for the drunk pilot and his god-awful reading of "i was meant to be piloting 815 that day! dun dun dunnnnnn", that was bad. the other three are great though.

I gave it a 7 I thought it develop a little slow, but ended very strong. I guess I was also a little disappointed initially with the new people. I was really expecting a re-con team. Thought it ended great with Ben and his mystery. I also loved the opener so much and couldn't rate this as high. Looking forward to next week.

I almost always rate the show a 10 just because I'm so glad to see it.
I thought that the pace of the show went fairly fast. We got to meet all 4 of the fraighter people. I though it was funny that Locke put that device on the dog, (I cant remember his name). All in all I just cant wait for the next one.

Excellent episode... the new characters were intriguing and the flashbacks were riveting to watch. The first part of the episode felt a little show and convincing, but it started coming together halfway through. I watched it again and liked it even more the second time around. Much better than the season premiere. I gave it a 9.

loved the introduction of the new characters and the hydra on the polar bear's collar was a great "Whoa!" moment!

Those FBs were ripe with new questions, weren't they? Charlotte's attitude about 815's crash was curious, but the polar bear was a total surprise. Lapidus recognizing the 815 was a fake was interesting, but his claim he was supposed to have piloted it was unexpected. Miles scamming the lady with his psychic powers was different, but then actually getting a message was another surprise. And Daniel crying, didn't make sense. But I just love this character so much!!

I really love that the mystery is back.

That's just how I felt - I love the mysteries of LOST!!
10 for the new mysteries :clapping: and fascinating new twists with these Freighties.
