I for one thought the whole ghostbusters thing seemed gimmicky and quite lame. The whole television series from the start has been about mystery and intrigue and out of nowhere we have ghosts being 100% confirmed as real entities outside of the island in the Lost universe. I'm very disappointed at the execution of that entire flashback and that ghostbuster character as a whole. Total jump the shark moment for me.

I completely agree with you. I thought the ghostbuster thing was very cheesy.

I was very unimpressed with this episode, which it appears that I am in the minority.

Also, others may disagree but I thought that the actress who plays Charlotte is just not well suited for this role. I really have no idea what she's be in before & she may very well be a wonderful actress in other roles but as for her role on Lost, she just doesn't cut it.
Her acting debut on Lost was insincere, forced, awkward, unnatural & was uncomfortable to watch.

I was actually let down when it was revealed that she was wearing a bullet proof vest. Hopefully she won't last very long.
Fortunately, the other newbies were cast extremely well & seem very interesting.

I agree that the Ghost thing is silly. This makes me worry about the show. I've always hoped that the show could be explained with at least semi-rational pseudo science. But if you start throwing in ghosts then suddenly you have a show that could just say in the end "it's all unexplained". I worry about that, especially with this new character that can talk to the dead. I'm ok with different dimensions, time travel and stuff that can at least have some theorehtical scientific backing and I'm willing to accept cosmic occurence like the numbers. But how dumb would it be if say Jacob is a ghost and the smoke monster is a ghost and that is the only answer we get in the end?

Ditto. Lost has always been about holding its cards close to it's vest. But now it seems they are intent on delivering us "answers" -- particularly with the excavation of the polar bear skeleton/Dharma logo. This is a major buzzkill for the island mystery if this is going where I think it is." Confirmed Dead" takes on a new meaning. I think the show may have jumped the shark.

I won't say I hated the epi, but I definitely DID NOT like the ghost stuff. It just seems too easy of an out for the brilliant writing that we've seen thus far. :(

Writers, I hope you can prove me wrong!

The ghost stuff was so stupid. The overall episode, for me, was thoroughly uninteresting.

I personally thought the episode was boring and uninteresting. I didn't hate it but hey they all can't be stunning shockers.

I honestly thought that Naomi's "Tell My Sister I Love Her" line turning out be a code was pretty lame and predictable to be honest. I had originally thought maybe her sister was Desmond's ex-finacee-I know everyone on the boards thought it was a code and that made it even more of a reason to throw a huge plot twist at us.

The Ghost-Whisperer Miles I also thought was a bit much. It would have made more sense for him to have claimed to be someone who could talk to the dead but was actually a con-artist.

The only part of the episode that raised my interest was when Hurley blurted out that Jacob's cabin was the other way and Locke gave him a look when has asked him "What did you say, Hugo."

I'm glad I'm not the only one that thought the whole ghost thing was poor. Although having said that, as I already posted over on the lostcasts site, I don't think it's as simple as that - I doubt that they're seriously introducing a paranormal element into the show, it's just too silly for Lost. It's not what we've come to expect from the writers. I reckon the ghost nonsense will be resolved quickly, owing both to viewer response as well as to the fact that it isn't part (fingers crossed) of the writers' bigger plan.

Her acting debut on Lost was insincere, forced, awkward, unnatural & was uncomfortable to watch.Very well said, that's exactly how I felt about this actress' performance. Let's hope the Island feels the same way.

Ditto, verbatim. It was exciting, but it makes me worry about the plotline and the mythology.

Tell me you're faking us out with this ghost stuff!:frown:

I can't say I hated it, but it was a bit weird for me. I really am starting to wonder if the writers are forcing to put out answers too fast knowing that the end of the show is sent and reaching for...I don't know what to call it other than just plain weirdness.

The ghost thing was just strange and hokey. Ben being creepy and manipulative is beginning to wear on my nerves.

I'm also leaning toward some of this epi being the "Jump the Shark" moment, but I'm still in for the long haul in hopes that we aren't going to get a lame end to the show. *crosses fingers*

Wow, I completely agree with the ghost thing. It started with Christian and Charlie last episode, but now is all but confirmed. What an awful turn of events for the show.

Plus they're digging into the same bag of tricks way too often: Ben managing to get someone's gun, Ben promising to reveal secrets to get out of being killed, and (a bit lesser, but still annoying to me) Jack demanding answers in exchange for the phone but giving up the phone anyway before any are given. What a sap!

Next episode will probably have Kate being held at gunpoint AGAIN in order to get Jack to back down from a threat. (Aren't we overdue for another of these scenes?)

Charlie is still dead when he should not be (and he should still be on the show), the stories and ***Mod edited*** are still massively hypocritical, and Sawyer is still an ***hole who neither tries for nor deserves redemption. If this were opposite day, Lost might still be a show worth watching. Such a shame.

Alas I find myself here once again..... :undecide:

I found this episode uniteresting, uninspiring and simply writing by numbers. I must resign myself to the fact that Season 1 was a stand alone. I mean fan theories are more interesting than actually what the show is portraying. No mystery. No subtletly. No suspense.

I am not adverse to the element of ghosts being introduced but it is how it is done. The presence of Jack/s father. Kate's horse - were spine tingling moments. The execution of it all is what is making it hammy. I don't think I saw more than one emotion expressed by each character this whole episode. The writing on this show needs some finesse and forwrad planning - it is almost as if there is no cohesion with the episodes so writers cram as much info into one episode because the thread of characters may be lost in the next one.

For instance....great so Naomi used a code to warn she had been killed. Are the 'new' viewers of lost that inept at reading signs that we have to have a character shout: 'Naomi told me say bye to her sister! She used a code! She doesn't have a sister! They killed her.!' Ok yep...so how did Naomi die again? 'Code was it....murder?'
Nice way to introduce yourselves to a group of supposed hostile island dwellers! Great plan - let the murderers know you know they are murderers.

And please - with the guns already. I think that is when this show started going downhill with the grande cache of guns!
There's a problem: Gun.
I don't agree with what you are saying locke : Gun.
What is that in the bushes?: Gun.
Who are you?: Gun
Give me the phone!: Gun.
Jack is mine!: Gun  Lol :p
It is almost as bad as that R. Kelly hip - hopera. :lipsseal:

I am so perplexed as to what has happened with this show.....I wrote better stories than this when I was 8.

Just like last week I wish they'd completely do away with flash forwards & flash backs for a while. It's getting more annoying than interesting & there's still a mountain of unresolved issues without heaping on new mysteries and more questions. But I never actually disliked, maybe a little disappointed.

As a whole the episode was serviceable, but there were definitely aspects I didn't like. Mostly I'm just prickly about the Freighter people. Daniel I like a lot, Miles (even with the hokey ghostbusting stuff) is all right, but I really dislike Charlotte and Lapidus. Part of me thinks that I just got tired of new characters being introduced by the time they showed up. But another part of me insists that Charlotte is a really obnoxious character.

Also, if they were just going to introduce another hot chick, why couldn't they have kept Naomi around? I liked her.

And what's with Charlotte the cultural anthropologist excavating? Last I heard, cultural anthropologists weren't big on digging in the dirt (she was a shoddy excavator anyway).

I'm pretty sure that, in general, I hate the new characters. Especially Miles.
(And I know I'm repeating what everyone else said in this thread, but the whole ghost thing was pretty stupid.)

I, too, worry about the show.
Didn't they announce seasons 5 and 6?

If they reveal a whole lot of things too soon, as it appears they may, it could get pretty lame.

i'm gonna have to agree. i thought the episode was pretty slow paced for the most part. alot of jumping around. i would've much rather them pay attention to one group for an episode and maybe cut back to the others during the last 5 minutes. rather than try and show 2 stories along with flashbacks that didn't make very much sense in the first place.

but maybe i could be wrong.

also, i don't like miles. not one bit.
