it is used as if it is a actual character in the story and I like it. reminds me a little of the short story Eisenheim the Illusionist that was used for the movie Illusionist, but the cabin was never presented in the movie (anyways)...

was that Jack's dad in the rocking chair?

I thought it looked like Christian Shephard also.

And after all, his coffin was empty...

I thought it might be Christian too... looked a bit like his suit? It also looked kinda corpse-like to me.

And yes, that eye!

Screencaps people!!! This needs very badly to be obsessively scrutinized! I would make them if I know how.

Yes it was most assuredly Christian Shepherd. The last Missing Piece made it painfully obvious that Christian Shepherd was wearing white shoes, like the guy in the chair.
And the guy whose eye we saw was obviously Jacob.

I've been back thru that scene. I can not see white shoes.

Correction - I see the white sneaker. That confirms its Christian.

You saw white shoes?

I think, based on Missing Pieces #13, that it is not an alive CS. It is Jacob reanimating CS's body (thanks to Cardielost for the reanimation idea). Using a body is maybe the only way that he can be seen. Otherwise he is....smoke?

The cabin is part of the island like Jacob is part of it.

The eye that popped up in the window looked like Locke's. Explains why Locke suddenly appeared out of nowhere.
