Did smokie follow Jack, Kate and Hurley off the island?

I'm not sure. I was thinking of smokie when we saw Charlie and especially when Charlie disappeared. The lawyer may be something else. I don't think he was smokie.

That guy certainly did have a creepy, inhuman quality about him, didn't he?

Whatever he is I'm sure we haven't seen the last of him.

Then again why would the lawyer ask Hurley about the other Oceanic 815 passengers.

That would be borderline whack if the monster is off the island.

Hurley has hallucinated before and was crazy before he got to the island; I don't think we need the monster to explain him seeing things.

Funny thought, both the lawyer and Charlie were seen by someone else other than Hurley, unlike Dave. Whatever followed him off the island is visible to other people too?

The lawyer I'm pretty sure is real. As for Charlie, why would Hurley hallucinate him with a shorter haircut and different clothes than he'd ever seen him in? Maybe Charlie has joined up with the course correctors, like Mrs. Hawking.

Charlie said I am dead and I'm here.....kind of sounds to me like his spirit--or smokey or whatever--was able to leave the island.

I'm thinking that Hurley seeing Charlie is the equivalent of Locke seeing Boone.

The lawyer and Ana Lucia's partner that showed up are probably both just people who have no direct connection to the island at all.

Perhaps this idea belongs more in the Theories section, but here goes: What if Smokie is a nano-particle swarm? Certainly seems like a stretch for 1960s technology, but weirder things have happened on this show.

The theory comes from Michael Crichton's book "Prey." Long story short, scientists invent nano-particle swarms, program them with AI, who eventually learn to take human form and make noises. The 'incident' in the Swan was the failure of the containment field that held the swarm. The force field was then built to protect the compound from the swarm.

The swarm gets off the island with the O6, needs to go back (for whatever reason), poses as Oceanic goon, Charlie imposter, and probably someone who will harass the other O6 in upcoming flash-forwards.

Also, the way the attorney instantly but quietly left the Psych ward is pretty strange.
A friend mentioned that the shadow of the attorney departing the open door resemble the way smokie moves.
Of course there was none of that electrical clicking noise, so he probably is human.

I was discussing with Herk today this information....what do you think? We think it is pretty viable...

We now believed that Charlie and that lawyer dude are our beloved Smoky from the island. Remember how smoky gets into your head? Smoky followed Hurley back and wants him back on the island...so he took the form of what he would respond to...

Many people will tell you that Smokie CAN"T leave the island. There have been many TPTB references stating that it is attached to the ground. BUT, I have no doubt that Abaddon comes from the Island. He is not a regular dude.

I agree. I think the man that visited Hurley was very much alive and real. Like when Richard came and recruited Juliet. He wasn't smokey, he was Richard!! people can go to the "real world" and be involved with the island as well.

I think they are purposely keeping us guessing on who's real to Hurley. Remember, when each of them came it was another patient who brought it to Hurley's attention. Unlike when Jack came in unannounced. I think Jack was the only real visit.

When the lawyer left he did so in a very sneaky way and if you re-watch it he leaves quite a shadow on the lower part of the door.

I always believed that smokey had a way of staying in your mind once you encountered it. Like when Echo's brother was smokey right before he died. Like when the bird called out to Hurely.

I hadn't caught his name before..is that really it??? A bit close to the word Abandon isn't it....which is what the Oceanic 6 did to the rest.

Lance really draws you into his character, you can't figure him out. Does that reverent aura about him exist because he's a divinely good person, like a priest, or is he just super evil, as the end music seems to suggest?

Did you notice the church-like music when he first appeared? Then the music got more and more foreboding so when Lance delivers the "Are you ok?" and "Are they alive?" questions, the music is just shrill and freaky scary!! Man.

I had to watch 2 or 3 times and am not sure if he in fact turned into smoke as he went through the door. Does anyone have a screencap?

Perhaps the smoke monster can tun into different forms?
