He was also dressed like he was headed for work, AND mixing a screwdriver. So he is like his old man in more ways than one.

Yeah, good catch on the tie thing. He really is becoming just like his father. He had his father fired for being intoxicated at work, and then he's doing the exact same thing. The tie is probably a very subtle way to illustrate it.
