View Full Version : Lost's First Gay Couple?
chilly 02-01-2008, 12:38 AM Anyone else catch this?
Immediately after Hurley announces he's taking Locke's side, the camera pans to the other survivors, and in the background, you see one guy start walking towards the camera and then he grabs another guy's hand.
It was great! Fun stuff...
:)
Andromeda Irulan 02-01-2008, 12:39 AM I saw that too! I kind of thought, though, that it also looked like the one guy was handing the other guy something...
emmaAmethyst 02-01-2008, 07:31 AM I'm astonishingly bad at recognising people (& it's dark, & I don't have HD), but I swear that guy with the backpack, dark shirt & glasses is somebody we're supposed to know.
On second watching, I decided that the deal was that it was a goodbye handshake for his friend, made awkward by the bag/backpack in his left hand. Just a moment later he walks in front of Rousseau & Ben -- somebody good at faces should be able to identify who it is.

And here, just coming into frame on the left...

Electromagnetic Anomoly 02-01-2008, 08:52 AM Maybe same sex marriage is legal on the island?!
erin1679 02-01-2008, 12:16 PM I noticed that too! I wonder if it's supposed to mean something??
eb7ate9 02-01-2008, 12:24 PM Someone caught that at our viewing too.
lostmio 02-01-2008, 01:21 PM Imo, it was done deliberately as a quick ;). at us..
Loved it!
BuffyMars 02-01-2008, 01:25 PM :) That's so sweet!
biggerricker 02-01-2008, 03:45 PM There was another reference to same sex couple in an LA flash forward. In the Season 3 finale I can't remember the specifics but I think it was in the hospital. I will edit this post when I watch it again.
mipanz 02-01-2008, 03:49 PM It's not sweet at all...it's more like how big was that plane. I'd like to know how many different extras have showed up on lost so far
HeadFirstForHalos 02-01-2008, 04:19 PM It's not sweet at all...it's more like how big was that plane. I'd like to know how many different extras have showed up on lost so far
But how is that not sweet?
And if you continue to bring back the same extras, then they become series regulars. So.....yeah.

Who is that???
The actor's name is Jim Mazzarella, he's been one of the extras on Lost since season 1.
emmaAmethyst 02-02-2008, 01:13 AM The actor's name is Jim Mazzarella, he's been one of the extras on Lost since season 1.As in "Jerome", here...

Yes! Thank you for the id!
It'll be interesting to see if he gets to be more ... notable ... since he was *so* quick to become a Lockie.
sawyer101 02-02-2008, 01:28 AM i wonder if Boone's gay. remember the flashback in Expose where shannon say's to Boone " If you quit flirting with random guys, maybe we could actually get on the plane"
Majandra 02-02-2008, 03:01 AM i wonder if Boone's gay. remember the flashback in Expose where shannon say's to Boone " If you quit flirting with random guys, maybe we could actually get on the plane"
She also asked him if Locke is his new boyfriend....
Doesn't mean he is gay, only that she was his sister who liked to wind him up especially after they (they as in Boone and his very female step-sister) had sex.
Even if Boone isn't gay, just watch The Rules Of Attraction and pretend that "Paul" is "Boone".
The scene with him dancing to George Michael's "Faith" is worth the viewing alone.
sk8rpro 02-02-2008, 05:59 AM Maybe same sex marriage is legal on the island?!
I think same sex and heterosexual marriages are both not legal on the Island. That is, they're both not recognized because there is no form of government. There are older inhabitants, but there is no government.
Marriage is not applicable since no one seems to be concerned with it.
Tangent...
Is any lifestyle acceptable? Sure, do whatever you want - but be careful, if you do what you want which takes away the liberty of others (like stealing other people's stuff), you might want to watch your back! Not to mention you don't have much protection because there's no accountability.
snowwhite 02-02-2008, 07:33 AM It looked to me that the guy with glasses was taking Vincents leash from the other guy. If you watch again it looks as though he is being pulled by the dog when he crosses over to Locke.
xanthateto 02-02-2008, 09:44 AM Haha when I saw this thread title I was expecting something about Sawyer and Hurley. They seem to have grown closer over the past season, and with Locke's dad dead Sawyer seems more prepared to be nice than he was before. I should probably point out I don't actually think there's a plot there, it's just something that crossed my mind :P
Back in season one I was predicting that Boone's dramatic storyline would be something to do with him being gay and maybe Shannon not being okay with it.. the plot they went with was much better though.
RodimusBen 02-02-2008, 11:30 AM What I want to know is, why does one guy taking another by the hand automatically indicate homosexuality?
Jack Sawyer 02-02-2008, 12:44 PM What I want to know is, why does one guy taking another by the hand automatically indicate homosexuality?
It's a pretty good guess. Not that there's anything necessarily wrong with two guys holding hands, but when I see that on the street it's surely my first thought. Norms in society dictate that dude's don't usually do that.
That said, I still haven't found the scene. How many seconds in is it?

Yes, you're exactly right! I looked again, & that's clear as can be. Good call.

That would depend on which country you are from, wouldn't it?
Jack Sawyer 02-03-2008, 01:54 AM That would depend on which country you are from, wouldn't it?
Western culture, quite generally speaking. That's alot of countries, including the countries where (almost) all of the characters are from. Personally, I cant speak for Eastern culture, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was the case in those places as well. After all, holding hands is, generally speaking, a sign of romantic affection.
Again though, I'm not saying its necessarily so, just that it's a pretty good guess.
JackSaw2 02-03-2008, 02:42 AM I noticed it right away too it looked like they were choosing one side together like boyfriends I thought.... Then I began to think they were going to have them go by the camara together but you could only see the one go by...it was weird & gayly awkward' It did make me think.......Seems like someone would be gay....come on it is ABC after all....where is the gay character? Remember Mr "You're not my type" Friendly anyone.
CrazyLatin007 02-03-2008, 03:49 AM Well, it looks like the guy is handing over Vincent's leash, but I had hoped it was a couple, everyone should be represented in the island, right? ;)
It would have been cute.
Majandra 02-03-2008, 07:24 AM Western culture, quite generally speaking. That's alot of countries, including the countries where (almost) all of the characters are from.
Erm, I wouldn't throw ALL Western countries into one bag. If you've done some traveling, you'll know that there are HUGE differences as to what is accepted in society and what isn't in every country.
For example, 2 people kissing each other (on the cheek) is a normal way of greeting each other in many Southern European countries whereas in other countries, it would seem as strange.
In some western countries homosexuality is completely acceptable, where politicians pride themselves (publicly, in parliament) of being gay and actually gain popularity with it, where gay marriages are legal, whereas in others, it is still a big deal.
So I would be REALLY careful to assume everything is the same in "western culture".
Palmolive 02-03-2008, 07:28 AM Aw, that's too bad. I would've liked to see a gay couple on the island, even if it's just one in the background. Well, I'm not giving up on Sawyer/Jack, anyway :D.
Corey Chaos 02-03-2008, 05:48 PM Maybe same sex marriage is legal on the island?!
That'd be sweet, it should be. Hehe.

Actually, I've done plenty of travelling and, as I said, I was speaking "quite generally." So I'll stand by my statement which i dont think was inappropriate at all. Generally, holding hands is a sign of affection in Western culture.
Does anyone have the minutes:seconds for where this scene is exactly?
