View Full Version : The Helicopter Guy - A Connection!
Richie 02-01-2008, 11:41 AM Somebody with Tivo is going to have to verify this. At the end of the episode last night, I think I made a connection. The guy who came down from the helicopter at the end of the episode looked awfully similar to one in the mental institution. I believe he was playing that game with Hurley in one of the flash forwards.
Laurieg 02-01-2008, 11:47 AM I can't answer your question, but I was suprised at the stunned look on Jacks face, when the guy took off his helment.
It was as if Jack had seem him before.

I'd say is the other way around;)
And it is not the same guy.

You think the guy taking off his helment looked shocked to see Jack?
I thought the look on Jacks face was pretty intense.
DarkTeach 02-01-2008, 12:06 PM My daughter's first comment was "Holy Shit... it's Charles Manson!!".. :-) I'd forgotten Davies was in Helter Skelter.. LOL

I thought it was Steve Railsback that played Manson.Unless there was a remake.
my t dux 02-01-2008, 12:31 PM Davies' character should have considerable more back bone than he did in Saving Private Ryan.

Nope. He didn't look surprised because he recognized Jack's face. Why do you think he asked right away: are YOU Jack?
And how did he recognize Jack's face?
Because the frieghties already KNEW that there were Flight 815 survivors on that island. They have several missions to accomplish there. One of them could be to retrieve certain people. The Oceanic Six. Jack being one of them.
One of my theories when the promo was first aired was that these guys could actually be there to get JACK off the island. He is interfering, somehow, with somebody's plans. So he needs to be 'rescued'. It was Jack's decision to pick the rest of the Oceanic Six.

I hadn't thought about it like that, but you could be onto something here. What if the "Six" had no choice about who they were. They were yanked off for some reason outside of their control. Hmmm..
dangerousdirk 02-01-2008, 01:35 PM i can't remember, did Jack say his name when he was talking to the freighter people? i remember that originally, he only stated that he was a survivor of Oceanic flight 815. if he didn't mention his name, how did the helicopter guy know?
NotAnOther89 02-01-2008, 01:40 PM No, he said my name is Jack Shepard, I'm one of the survivors of ocean flight 815.
Also, no, he was not in the metal institution.

The man who parachuted is with the team that has been in contact with a man named Jack, via the satellite phone and that guy could have actually spoken to Jack. It was the only name he knew of people on the island, and that is why he assumed that Jack was Jack.

I just saw him with Christian Bale in Rescue Dawn last week. He is uber-creepy.

Yes he did say his name-it was after Locke used Naomi for target practice and she dropped the phone while it was ringing and after Locke didnt shoot Jack he picked up the phone

IA. And I think Jack looked shocked since he didn't quite know how to answer the parachutist's simple question of "Are you Jack?" because Jack doesn't know if this guy is a friend or a foe.

This is what i thought too. The parachute guy was speaking on the sat phone to someone named Jack. When he landed he asked the question whether Jack was Jack. Knowing the show, there's probably more to it with this being the 1st and most obvious solution.

I believe that the parachute guy and the guy who spoke on the sat phone are 2 different people...
theoryguy 02-01-2008, 08:48 PM The guy on the phone was Minkowski...and Fisher Steven's was credited as playing him. Jeremy Davies is playing someone else...i dunno if revealing his name would be spoiler so I'll just say they are two completely different people.

That may be true but I'd think they would be sharing information if they're working together.
huntedtreasure 02-02-2008, 12:01 AM I rewatched and paid close attention... Jack never gives his name when he first talks on the phone. But, I think it is the second time we see him talking on the phone that they call him Jack (over the phone) - and it doesn't seem to phase Jack that they knew his name. So, I imagine that he said his name to them off screen. ??
I also think Jack had a strange look on his face - like of surprise or something.

In flashback at the end of season 3, Jack seemed to answer the same question posed by Sarah, "No." The tricky thing is that Sarah asked a question that could be parsed 2 ways (approx., from memory):
"Are you drinking again? Are you, Jack?"
"Are you drinking again? [...and...] Are you Jack?"Tricky interpretation #2 (in the guise of more innocent interpretation #1) suggests that Jack has a double, or that "Jack Shepherd" is a role (of which drinking is a part) he slips into & out of as part of the great conspiracy hoax I think is going on. Alternatively, "Are you Jack?" may be code language the conspirators use. Slangly, "Are you jack?" would be asking whether one is prepared, in good condition, etc.
