View Full Version : Has Juliet become irrelevant?
BillToons 02-01-2008, 01:30 PM Even though she is in the epi last night she seemed to be nothing more than background noise. This makes me think that her importance in the story has come to a close. Unless things change quite a bit I don't really see that she has a use anymore. She has abandoned Ben and the Others (what's left of them) and was instrumental in getting the communications going with the ship offshore. Now though I wonder what is her next thing if anything? What does she have of value to the rest of them and the story? I believe this makes her a good candidate for bye-bye-dom.
Don't get me wrong I really like Juliet and don't want to see her go but?
BuffyMars 02-01-2008, 01:32 PM Well, Danielle and Alex and Karl and...a lot of people were just background last night. It doesn't mean anything. How many characters do they have now? Not everyone can be up front in every episode.
Clochard 02-01-2008, 01:34 PM I agree.
Name the last time you saw Rose and Bernard get that much facetime in an episode. It hasn't been for a while (Well, okay, the finale, but other than that) but it doesn't mean they're suddenly going to be prominent, while others who weren't shown as much aren't.
I think you're reading into it too much, based on one episode
NotAnOther89 02-01-2008, 01:34 PM There is still so much left of her story to tell. Once there is a Juliet centric episode again she'll be just as important, of course maybe not as last year but really, how can you expect that?
my t dux 02-01-2008, 01:36 PM I would be very happy to see her go away, she has always annoyed me. ***Mod edited***
shyguy 02-01-2008, 01:38 PM She can fight with Kate over Jack?
kokobware 02-01-2008, 01:46 PM I think i they ever run into the remaining others again, she might become a little more important. Plus it was just the first episode, Jin and Sun weren't doing much same can be said for Claire. I think it was just the premier and a lot was going on.
Shardyk 02-01-2008, 02:00 PM There's a deleted scene where she talks to Sawyer as she's digging that hole in the ground, and he asks her what she's going to do when they come checking off the names of the people on Flight 815 and she is not on it. I'm sure that's going to be an issue in the future.

I realize everyone cannot be upfront all the time... my point is as I thought about her role in all of this it seems it has been spent. The cards she held have been laid on the table.
The only thing I can think she may still have a role in is the love triangle with Jack and Kate thing and quite frankly that kind of bores me to death. I don't think this season will have as much of that as last.
lostnlaguna 02-01-2008, 02:07 PM I hope there's still more to tell about Juliet. I didn't like the character much at first but over time have decided that she's an interesting facet in the story. They'd be crazy not to capitalize on the work they've done and utilize the character fully.

Or she could still have a huge role, as herself and Ben really are the "last" of the Others. Will she defend the Island? Understand Ben's motives for wanting to protect it? What will they say if they are "rescued", about why and how they are there?

lostlocke 02-01-2008, 02:17 PM Although she seemed insignificant in last night's episode, she isn't. Desmond didn't even say that much last night and his storyline is very much embedded in Lost.
Sometimes you just don't have that many lines!!

True but Desmond's lines were profound to the movement of the story, Charlie's heroic death and "not pennys boat" stuff.
None of this could have been done without Juliet's knowledge of the looking glass, not to mention the fact she told them about the attack that was coming and so fourth. I guess I'm thinking she was sooo important to what happened last night but is now finished.
Maybe she knows some more stuff about the island?
lostlocke 02-01-2008, 02:29 PM of course she knows more stuff about the island. More than the average Lostie. How much has ben told her? How much has she seen? I guess it's yet to be determined but I don't think because in one episode she was kind of in the background that that means she will be forgotten about.
ruby-red-slippers 02-01-2008, 09:34 PM About Juliet: I've been reading the boards, and I know there's loads of questions on everyone's minds but, I'm anxious to know if Juliet gets to go back home. She wanted to go home so badly with the FB of her sister and all. I guess only time will tell if she makes it back or not....
Jedierica 02-02-2008, 12:36 AM Nah they invested too many episodes to her last season to dump her now. She will be around a bit
Bella 02-02-2008, 12:54 AM I really like Juliet and hope that she remains relevant for a long time -- and I suspect she will. She's a great, complex character that I'm sure still has a lot of story to be mined.

Maybe she takes the place of one of the Losties.

I'm wondering this, too. Either way I think we'll be seeing more of her soon.
And while re-watching the epi, I thought the woman sitting on the bench near Hurley looked a lot like Juliet. It's about 45 min. into the episode, after Charlie disappears and Hurley turns to look for him. There is about a three second pause while the camera stops on this woman. She had blonde hair and it's in a ponytail/braid similar to how Juliet would often wear her hair. Might be nothing but then again . . . . . I don't have a screencap. Maybe someone else can take one and post it?
james_sawyer 02-04-2008, 01:33 AM Well, if she has become insignificant, I'd at least like to see an episode where she is reunited with her sister. I'm a big fan of closure.
Heroic Poser 02-04-2008, 01:43 AM Her story isn't finished until I find out exactly why she said, "If I told you, you'd kill me."
I'm not buying it was just for setting up Claire. I think there's something BIGGER in her past we don't know.

It seems like there's something huge in her past that hasn't been revealed yet. I remember Sawyer telling Kate that "the blonde woman would have shot you, no problem" last season. Also, when Kate was captured at the Others' camp, Juliet was bringing her some food, and Kate decided to take a swing at her with a pool stick. Juliet did a cool ninja move or something...
So...why was Sawyer so sure that she could kill in cold blood (his theory was validated shortly thereafter when she shot Danny on the beach)? What did he see in her? And where did she learn those cool fighting moves?
TypicalHorror 02-04-2008, 02:00 AM Juliet is ten kinds of bad ***, and EM is a phenominal actress. They cant afford to kill off anymore female characters....Itll be a sausagefest.

What? How do you know about this scene?

YES! i totally agree... that statement weighs heavy on my mind still... what exactly haven't we been told?
Nate Schamp 02-04-2008, 04:57 AM What? How do you know about this scene?
It was on Jimmy Kimmel.
COL_Richard 02-04-2008, 05:15 AM Juliete i thik is far from done. there is reserach to be done with Claire as to why she isnt dead, and of course in helping Sun. I think she will recommit herself based on these 2 women. using claire to help sun. it is possible that sun may not be able to leave the island and deliver to term because of her exposure to the island, having concieved on it.
