The last time the Losties were at the cabin of the plane, Smokey killed the pilot and chased Jack, Charlie, and Kate. Lately the group has been walking around without fear as Smokey has not been seen.

So what is Smokey preoccupied with?

Probably animating the bodies of Christian Sheppard and Charlie.

we don't know smokey is the thing animating the past and the dead, but it is definitely a possibility. It could be the island or jacob doing the same, and smokey is merely an additional tool they have at their disposal.

but either way, why is smokey not out roaming around as he was in the previous seasons? smokey was devastating, and frightening. he got the job done. but now with a new threat on the island, he's nowhere to be seen and the losties travel through parts unafraid.

it might be for the simple reason that there are plenty of other things to keep the show intense at the moment. i wont deny the simple explanations!

but what does that tell is about smokey if he isn't roaming around anymore. did he learn everything he needed? did he find the only person he was looking for?

Due to the ever increasing opinion that smoke is bad, the Island has become (like much of the rest of existence and public areas) a smoke free enviroment and Smokie has to stay atleast 20 feet from the Island at all times.
