I'm going to spoil font this, because I don't know if there are other disscussions about the newspaper clipping about the funeral or not. For this to make sense, you need to have seen a screen capture of the newspaper clipping that Jack had about the funeral.
In the newspaper clipping, and we could see that the funeral was for a John Latham/Lantham? Well, they replayed the scene when Ben first arrived at the island with his father. When his father was getting his "workman" uniform, he complains to the girl who was distributing the clothing about being a janitor. The girl checks a list and says, "Yes, right here, Mr. Latham - Workman." I am about 100% sure that is what she said, but I haven't had a chance to confirm that anywhere.
So what do I think this means? Well, it could mean that Ben made up his last name - Linus - or just had a different name than his father for some reason. Perhaps if Ben had to return to the "real" world he assumed his father's name… and somehow had a teenage son. That part I'm not sure about.
