Is Hurley still in his bad luck spell? He saves everyone at the beach and is finally happy he is going home. Then he finds out Charlie is dead and the camp will split in two once they find out about Naomi. Is this all Hurley's fault?

He saved the day with the Dharma van so that's pretty good luck. I don't think it's his fault, although I wonder what the Ghost of Charlie means when he tells Hurley at the psych institute that they all need him.

Nah, I don't think Hurley is bad luck...I actually think he has caused or brought some of the better things to come out of the island. Normally, he's a bit of sunshine in a rather bleak situation.
However, I wouldn't be surprised if Hurley himself thinks he is bad luck. His guilt in the flash forward from the first episode showed that he reaches a fairly dark place.

I think all those on Team Jack and Team Locke (I've always been firmly in the second camp) are going to have to re-wire their brains when it turns out that Hurley is the central hero of Lost. So there.

I agree with surfer. Hurley reminds me of Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over The Cuckoos Nest. In the movie Jack N. steals a bus and takes all the other patients to a ballgame. Hurley is kind of the same way. He always throws in a little stress relief for the gang when it's needed the most. Two things that come to mind are starting the V.W. bus building the golf course. The old adage, "in a room full of crazy people he sane man would look crazy" comes to mind.

Yeah, it's like last season when he completely did the friendly con on Sawyer to get him to be nice and become a good leader since Jack, Locke, Kate, and Sayid were all gone...hee. It made Sawyer feel good; it made everyone else feel good. However, in the end, Hurley was actually the REAL leader.

Hurley caused the split in camp. I'm sorry, I just cannot get on the Hurley bandwagon this season. He is irritating--and I mean, I used to really enjoy the dude. Now, he is controlling, passive/aggressive, and impulsive. Bad luck? I dunno....I thought it was all orchestrated to get him to the Island.

I have to politely disagree. Jack caused the split when he pulled the the trigger on Locke. Everyone saw Jack's dark side and some did not like it. The "man of science" vs "man of faith" rivalry was obviously already there.

I disagree as well. Hurley didn't cause the split. Given the information on hand, going somewhere safe and hiding seemed like a much saner idea than going to meet the freighter folks. He said it--he didn't choose between Jack and Locke, he chose to listen to Charlie. If Jack had been going to the barracks...Hurley would have gone with Jack.
Hurley's doing what makes sense. He's the only one who ISN'T basing his decisions on rash assumptions or personal crap (Jack's total desperation to get rescued despite all facts to the contrary; Locke's total paranoia based on premonition, not fact).
Hurley is now officially the brains of this operation. Respek' tha Hurley.

It was not Hurley that caused the split. It was Jack's ginormous ego.
TTID was the episode that showed that you do make your own luck. While, I do not think that we are done with the numbers, I think Hurley has come to realize that he is not bringin bad luck to those around.
We are starting to see that Hurley is very special. He saw the cabin, he saw someone in that rocker. Hurely may just turn out to be the central character on the show.
I can hope anyway cause a girl always has to support her man!!
