Was I hearing things, or when Daniel, in the first flashback, was watching, devestated, as the news of 815's discovery was announced on the news...did that woman call him Sam? As in ... Sam Thomas??

Let me know...maybe I was just looking for it once the underwater footage came on the screen. Obviously I thought ARG.

No she called him Dan, not Sam

The ship that found the wreckage is the same from the ARG, and found in the same area. I think that's why we all heard "Sam" when she said "Dan".

Heheh Glad Im not the only one who heard it. Especially since it obviously makes little sense that he would be Sam considering he's a physicist. I think it was reaction to the news too that got me thinking...

I didnt see any of the ARG and it was Dan clear as day to me...makes ya wonder how the mind works, eh? :)

Funny I heard Sam, too. I even asked the friend I was watching it qith and she heard the same thing. HA!

Weird! I serioulsy heard Sam too...playing that game must have sunk deep in my brain. My hubby, who didn't play, heard Dan :)

I thought I heard Sam too. Funny thing is I also thought that Charolette sounded just like Tracey R.

On a side note: I didn't get involved much in the find815 stuff, so the name Sam would not have stuck in my head from that.
When we found out the character's name was Daniel, I was utterly confused.

yeah, i thought i heard that too and was going to trip out, since i also played the arg.

i noticed, however, the way he paused before giving his name (daniel faraday) made me think he was making it up.

dan may be his first name, but i think maybe he is borrowing faraday from the famous physicist michael faraday. (link for those who didn't play flight 815 and looked into this already: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Michael_Faraday)

interestingly, faraday was also one of the aliases used by evil "the walking man" character in stephen king's the stand.

I heard Sam as well, and later when he was called Dan my wife asked me if in the previous scene that Dan's wife had called him Sam as well..

I definitely heard Dan, but it seems to me that they definitely planned for the two names to sound similar, since they had decided to tie the game in with the show.

We all heard "Sam" too. Even my youngest daughter, who didn't know anything about Find815.

I heard Sam. I was so confused that I called another Lost fan during the next commercial. I was involved in find815.....she wasn't. She heard Dan and said she read Dan on the closed-caption.

Weird I heard Sam, too. I haven't played the game, but I told hubby about it and the videos on ABC and he asked, "Is that SAM?" Weird.

I played the game and I heard Dan but I was spoiled and knew his name was Daniel.

To add one more vote for Dan....I distinctly heard the woman call him Dan.

How odd, we're about half and half here of hearing the same word two different ways. :biggrin:

lol....I guess we should wonder more about why he was so upset about hearing the news regarding flight 815. Dan, himself, didn't know why....weird.

I played the game and I heard Sam... but my daughter didn't, and she heard Sam as well... rather strange... I'm going home and rewatch! Someone else said they heard Sam but read Dan on the CC... those tricky producers playing with our heads again!

Both my boyfriend and I definitely heard Sam. We didn't recognize him at first so when we heard "Sam" we were trying to figure out who this guy was. Then when he later said his name was Daniel we were both utterly confused. and we haven't played that game you guys are talking about.

My husband and I both heard "Sam" and were confused when he was referred to as "Dan". We also did not play the game.

This is really bizarre because my husband and I (neither of us played the game) heard Sam and even commented on it when he said Dan was his name. He even hesitated when they asked his name. I was hoping on the Satelite phone it would say his name since it showed Miles name but it didn't. I definately think he made up Daniel.

Hehehe...sounds like we all sorta wanted that to be true. Then again, Im liking how this Daniel Faraday character is playing out so far. :) Sam or Dan, I agree that the producers probably quite liked the suggestion of the ARG in there...you got the footage of 815 underwater, the fact that he was crying (like his girlfriend was onboard), and then the name which sounded oh so much like "Sam."... head games, i guess.:confused:

This is so funny! I heard Sam and asked out loud "Sam"??? My friend said, "No, it's Dan". I don't know about any game either. lol!

My boyfriend and I both heard Dan, and neither of us have played the game.

Okay. I've just watched the scene again. Daniel's wife or girlfriend (or sister? or niece? or roommate?) definitely says, "How do you want your eggs, Dan?" And then she calls him "Dan" every time after that.

One likely problem a lot of us were having: the S at the end of "eggs" tricked our ears into thinking she'd said "Sam", and our brains refused to let go of that name.

Another likely problem we were jointly having: our ears are messed up!

Trust me. Watch it again, everyone who thought you heard "Sam". (Including me, originally.) She said "Dan".

I heard Sam, thought Sam throughout, went "Huh" when he said Daniel Faraday, heard his colleagues call him Dan, then read a post here, and went "Oh, the lady at (his house) called him DAN!" Duh...

Initially though, I was thinking that if this was the "on show" version of Sam Thomas, he sure did relocate REALLY quickly from Australia to Massachusetts. Or maybe he was just visiting... but I thought Sam Thomas had moved :rotflmao2:

Yeah, it was (seemed) obviously intentional with the crying and everything. I bet Darlton are still wiping the milk off their noses over this one ;)

I played the game and heard Sam even though I noticed the closed caption said Dan.

I never played the game, and thought I heard Sam. Which made me think for the whole episode "why are they using cover names?" >_<

OMG I didn't know this thread existed! I have to chime in that I heard "Sam" and for the entire episode, I was like, "Another Sam? That's not Sam Thomas!" And when he said his name was Daniel Farraday, I was like "Liar! His name is Sam!" lol
