I was thinking more of 'Luigi's Mansion' for Gamecube.

I've been reading in other places that the "vacuum" that Miles had was actually a "cold air generator"... I guess that in the world of "seers" and ghost talkers that cold air makes ghosts jumpy/active which was why Miles was able to detect and talk to him after a few minutes...

Anyone else think of the whispers when he was talking to himself in the FB in room of the dead kid? I wonder if the whispers that are heard on the island are actually spots where psychics and clairvoyants in the outside world can actually be heard. I know TPTB say this isn't purgatory, but man, it sure seems like its the next best thing... The gates to heaven or hell are close by, and anyone who gets off the island has officially "cheated death"?

i think the vacuum was a sham. i think he only used so that the old lady wouldnt hear what he was saying about finding anything in the house. i think he can talk to the dead without that loud vacuum because he had no trouble with naomi.

I thought the vacuum was used like a "sleep machine", creating white noise so he could concentrate.
Sort of like a tuning fork.

I agree. He was obviously using his powers for profit at that time and some props tp support his fee would obviously be helpful.

a new con if you ask me. i don't think miles can do a damn thing. any development of him as a legit "ghost whisperer" with be seriously lame.

I believe while he was not a sham, the machine was a sham. However, it gives the client a little bit of confidence when they see he's got some gadgets on his side.

Just reaching a bit, but money actually has magnetic properties, and a very unique magnet can be used to attract it (could explain why the sound came from behind the cabinet when the money hit the wall....) Check out this link to see the science behind it. I know a lot of folks were disappointed with the introduction of the ghost thing, since science could not be used to back it up. A weak theory at best, I know.

Erm...

No.

I think it may have ben intended as a tool for creating a frquency to allow a spirit to communicate with the "ghostbuster". I loved how he moved before he started speaking to the boy. It was like a cat or something, quite jittery movements.

It isn't actually a vacuum as he didn't try to use it to suck up a spirit, he just left it on the side switched on.

I have one of those things, it's a Vax Spot Scrubber !

If the "vacuum" was a sham, then why did he turn it on when he was in the bedroom? It didn't make much sound, certainly not enough for the lady to hear from downstairs. So he didn't turn it on for her benefit, he must have turned it on for a reason.

Was Miles a sham? Well, he didn't know where the cash and drugs were hidden when he first went into the room, or he would have gone straight for them. He then "contacted" the ghost, a noise was heard heard the cupboard, and Miles finds what he's looking for. Based on that I find it hard to argue that something happened. Again, he wasn't acting this bit out for the benefit of the lady downstairs so I have to assume it was genuine.

The whole scene reminded me a lot of Ben talking to Jacob in The Man Behind The Curtain.

The only person Miles conned was the boy's ghost - by stealing the money from him. The boy was given the impression that if he told Miles where the money was, and the money was then passed to the grandmother, that the boy could then journey onwards and no longer be trapped in whatever limbo he was in. To all intents and purposes Miles did exactly what the grandmother wanted.

...i have to confess.....i thought this bit was a bit crap.

I know there is all sorts of weird stuff happening ON the island, but i could suspend disbelief cos it is a weird place!!!

to see paranormal activity so explicitly shown OFF island....using a bloody hoover no less, was a bit pants.

Miles did something because the picture frames changed on the wall. This seemed to indicate to Miles that the grandson's spirit has moved on.

Hello all. I googled "machine to talk to the dead" and found this website

http://www.unarvukal.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=2809&pid=18301&mode=threaded&start=#entry18301

Has anyone else seen it - I thought it was interested that they talk about electromagnetism. Although I cannot find ANYTHING else mentioning this. COuld this have been planted by the Lost team?

If the link does not work - here is what the article says - it sounds a lot like Dharma stuff!!!

AMAZING MACHINE LETS YOU TALK WITH THE DEAD!

RUSSIAN scientists have bridged the gap between this world and the after-life with a machine that allows people to talk to the dead.

For 11 years, neurologist Dr. Yuri Kovpak led a team of electrical engineers and medical researchers at a laboratory complex in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia.

"We were curious about death as an electromagnetic event," Kovpak explains. "This might help us understand what a daying person experiences, and it might help save lives."

His team placed hundreds of sensors around terminally ill volunteers to create a detailed map of the electromagnetic fields created by their brains nervous systems and the power of their thoughts.
