Locke suggesting to Claire that she and the baby could've been hit by a stray bullet as his reasoning for killing Ben made me roll my eyes. Do you suppose that Claire and Locke both forgot that Locke himself nearly hit Claire and the baby with a stray bullet when he was shooting at the phone to keep Jack from it in the finale?

That was covered last week, when we found out Locke's gun wasn't loaded.

Except the gun was quiet clearly loaded in TtLG when Locke fired a bullet at Jack's feet.

LOL,so what, those were blanks ricocheting off the dirt? The gun was clearly loaded when he was shooting at the phone. Locke unloaded the gun prior to joining the group, suspecting/hoping Jack would threaten to kill him in my opinion.

I don't recall that, but TBoTE made it clear Locke knew the gun wasn't loaded, so looks like he deliberately fired the last round into the ground?

edit: At any rate, Locke's modus operandi is contradiction, it fits that he'd be unconcerned one minute and hyper concerned the next..

He was shooting at the phone to keep Jack from picking it up, not intentionally unloading it into the dirt. He could've unloaded it anytime after he left the group and joined them later.

I thought that there was no way he was going to kill Ben. Let me explain:

First off, he kept Ben alive even though he shot him, and said how important he is because he has information.
Second of all, he took him/allowed him to join his team.

I think that was just pretending so that Ben starts answering some questions.

I just remembered another big reason. I thought that after Ben shot the lady, Locke looked at the bullet proof vest and then looked weirdly at Ben like "You knew she had a bullet proof vest on! You shot her to prove that I was right, they are dangerous"

Thus, I think Ben didn't intend to kill the gal, he just wanted to show that she had a bullet proof vest on (thus proving she was dangerous) and that Locke didn't intend to kill Ben, just make him cough up some info.

i kinda thought that too. because his 1st question was about Smokie.

if he really wanted some immediate info, he coulda started with Jacob who they were going to see again (supposedly) but instead it seems, he started with what might be tha 1st of a long list of questions he has about tha island

This scene struck me as an evolution for Locke to maybe replace Ben as the "Others Leader". It seems he is sharpening his own skills of manipulation...

Oh, he's trying but he's still Ben's chewtoy and it's so much fun to watch them. I too thought "Oh, Locke  " when he was trying to tell the other mouthy Shephard sibling it's for her own good, but what was he going to say? "I know I shot a gun in your vicinity the other day, but hear me out here?" It's Locke. I just roll with it.

locke never intended to kill jack. and the bullet fired into the ground was nowhere near claire or the baby.

it's a police tactic to use the whole warning shot to scare someone tactic. thats what locke was doing with jack, using the warning shot to scare him into doing what he wanted. (why else do you think he KNIFED naiomi instead of shot her? cuz he wouldnt have enough bullets left to do the warning shot!)

the big diff is ben actually treid to kill the other girl. also he shot at the girl through the entire crowd. jack was at the front of the crowd, away from the people, and the angle locke shot at made sure it wouldnt go that far.

its in the details.
