View Full Version : Jack and Locke
woland 02-08-2008, 12:44 AM I have to say the show went against my expectations. Jack wasn't as trustitng of the freighties as I thought he'd be, coping Tom from The Hunting Party. And Locke wasn't as suspicious as I thought he'd be, he seemed to genuinely want to speak to Charlotte before deciding what to do with her in that moment after he spoke to her after Ben shot her. Now I wonder who'll be the first freightie to die, some red shirt freightie later in the season or one of the main four?
Bella 02-08-2008, 12:51 AM I thought it was interesting that when Ben shot Charlotte, Locked acted very much like Jack did when Locke shot Naomi.
wyoscrapper 02-08-2008, 12:57 AM I really didn't understand why Locke kept Charlotte. I thought he wan't to stay as far away from the freightees as he could. Bringing her with them would only send an angry group of them after her????
Eight 02-08-2008, 01:00 AM It fits perfectly with the theme of the entire show -- nothing is as clearcut as it seems but rather a varied shade of gray.
woland 02-08-2008, 01:31 AM Send an angry group of them after her? Locke knew that there were only four of them. Eight I agree nothing is ever clear cut, am I the only one who thinks that Charlotte, hell maybe each of the four horsemen are in the dark about their true mission? She seemed to genuinely believe they were there to rescue the losties. Or maybe it's just that she's a better liar than Farraday or Miles. Either way maybe they'll go against the typical movie/TV rule that British=pure evil with her character.

Hehe. Yeah, that was my first thought. Oh noes, she's British. And a spunky redhead. Not good. I see a lot of blind faith in Locke on a regular basis so I can't say I'm surprised, but then again Locke's behavior didn't strike me as that odd either. He's going to keep her as leverage against the rest of the freighties.
Team Jack/Sayid/Juliet rocked! "I don't know, Miles... How stupid are you?"
woland 02-08-2008, 03:11 AM Claudia815, not to sound sexist but Charlotte might not turn out to be evil because of the rule regarding women and Lost, the really attractive women are "good" Kate, Alex, Danielle, Juliet. So that might trump British=Evil.
lomeinie 02-08-2008, 03:12 AM Team Jack/Sayid/Juliet rocked! "I don't know, Miles... How stupid are you?"Ha I am not kidding right before Jack said that I had just finished saying "I don't know how stupid are you?" Gosh I hate when I call the lines before the characters say them in a show lol.

Oh, don't worry, I'm not easily offended. If I were, what would I be doing watching a show where the female characters are often a caricature and fall into one of two categories: "crazy chick" or "background babymomma". There are very few exceptions. I've made my peace. At least they write some extremely layered, vibrant guys.
I'm not so sure about Rebecca's hotness safeguarding her from ev0l. We already have an ambiguous Juliet so I hope she's not just a repeat, but on the other hand, I think she'd do ev0l well.
Wait... we were talking about Jack and Locke here.
So yeah, Jack and Sayid (my boys) were great. :p
woland 02-08-2008, 03:21 AM Well, Claudia, I think each of the four freighties will be the Juliets of this season. In that they'll tease the audience with which side they're on until they confirm who is "good" and who is "bad"
And I've always wondered why the female characters on this show never spend more time together, with all of the male bonding it would be a nice change to see some female bonding. Another thing I'd like to see this season, Claire take up arms and defend Aaron, some way to get her involved in the action so she's not just standing in the background holding a baby prop.

I thought that was an interesting twist too. Jack was awesome in this eppisode though.
I/T
Confidence-Man 02-10-2008, 02:01 AM I have to say the show went against my expectations. Jack wasn't as trustitng of the freighties as I thought he'd be,
I think when he saw the gun he started to believe Locke
woland 02-10-2008, 02:41 AM I don't think the four freighties are the bad news, the people above them might be.
RodimusBen 02-10-2008, 03:21 AM I don't think their reactions were all that unpredictable. Jack's not going to fully trust anyone, simply because of the number of times they have tried to leave the Island unsuccessfully. Then, throughout the episode, evidence continued to mount that they have a hidden agenda.
Locke is not a coldblooded executioner. The only person he came close to having it in him to execute is Ben. Locke is, at heart, a gentle person, and I think it would be a betrayal of his character to immediately murder someone upon meeting them, no matter how suspicious he was.
woland 02-10-2008, 03:46 AM After watching the episode I keep wondering how much the four freighties know about their group's agenda. I keep thinking from that scene between Naomi and Abbadon that they were kept in the dark about the true purpose of their plan. Not telling the four freighties the true plan protects their employers if they're captured and gets them to do things that might otherwise be contrary to their nature. The four freighties really don't seem to know what they're in for on the island, as if they think it'll be easy. Three of the four freighties acted in a way that indicated they had a hidden agenda. I wonder what would've happened if Locke had encountered Miles and Daniel and Jack had encountered Charlotte. And speaking of Daniel, if you're picking someone for a covert mission in which violence and hiding your true agenda are involved why choose such a terrible liar? But Locke and Jack for their differences, have one thing in common they are suspicious of the freighties but react in different ways.
