View Full Version : Why Hurley ends up leaving the island...
Lost Lenny 02-08-2008, 03:33 AM We have been trying to figure out why Hurley ends up on the O6 even though he joined "Team Locke"...and maybe we just found out...Looks like Ben manipulates Hurley into leaving the island so that he doesn't have more than one other person that sees Jacob.
The look on Ben's face when Hurley mentions the shack is all too knowing...he realizes now that both Hurley AND Locke can see Jacob.
He already tried to kill Locke after finding out that he is special...why not just manipulate Hurley into thinking that he has to leave??? Knowing how trusting Hurley can be...doesn't seem like much of a stretch.

Sounds like a good theory to me. Makes a lot of sense.
Now the question is, why is Hurley special? How is he beneficial to Jacob?
My personal opinion is that, out of everyone on the island, Hurley is the most pure of heart. Has to be good for something, right?

come to think of it, both jack and kate have seen things too (perhaps versions of jacob/smokie). jack sees his dad, kate sees her horse. who else sees people on the island. are there six of them?
Lost Lenny 02-08-2008, 11:33 PM True but to date. they have not seen Jacob. The writers had Ben pause and look at Hurley for a reason and he now knows that Hurley has seen the "cabin".
That's not good for Hurley...you saw waht Ben did to Locke when he realized that Locke was "special" therefore a threat.
shootingstar 02-08-2008, 11:47 PM That's what I was thinking that this is what leads to Hurley being part of Oceanic 06. Ben already tried to kill Locke who saw Jacob so Hurley is a threat to Ben.
Lost Lenny 02-09-2008, 01:08 PM This is pure speculation for sure (isn't that what this forum is about though?)
There is also a possibility that Hurley leaves against his will of course...but I really feel that TPTB gave us a big clue here.
One thing for sure is the fact that Hurley has seen the cabin (and probably Jacob) this is not a good thing for Ben. Let Ben's manipulation begin!
AboutBunnies 02-09-2008, 01:21 PM Ben's gettting Hurley to leave seems in keeping w/ Ben's craziness, but it doesn't seem like it would be so iimportant now for Ben to be the only one who can communicate w/ Jacob. He's no longer the leader of the others and is imprisoned by the "new & improved others." But I guess Ben is thinking in the long term? He probably already has his plan in place to wreak his havoc w/ our guys, escape & regain his place w/ his old group. He must be sure he's going to get back to his people.
Heroic Poser 02-09-2008, 01:35 PM Good theory. I can see Ben simply saying, "It's what Charlie wold have wanted." and Hugo would go.

Like sawyer said to Locke...(paraphrase) Ben's figuing out how to get out of this and I'll bet he already knows how he's going to do it...so YOU walk him.
Ben is never going to give up without a fight...he will regain (or try too) his leadership of the Others and when he does, he's not going to want to compete with 2 Losties that can also communicate with Jacob.
Good theory. I can see Ben simply saying, "It's what Charlie wold have wanted." and Hugo would go.
Something like that or "Hugo, your mother is ill...she needs you now...why don't you catch the last seat in the chopper". Remember, Ben takes "what someone is emotionally invested in and exploits it".
That's why I think he is already formulating a plan to get rid of Hurley...without having to shoot him and leave him for dead.
P.S. Hey Poser...where did you take that picture in your avi?

Dude the horse was a horse not a vision.
Maybe Hurley just decides he wants to go home, it's not that much of a stretch, Hurley is one of 4 people who have a legitimate reason to leave, now that his money might be gone he is clearly having better luck in his FF aside from seeing "dead" people of course.

Why would the writers make a point of showing both Ben and Locke at the point that they realize that Hurley is also "special"? (by Ben's definition of special).
I'm thinking more along these lines...why did the writers want us to know this?
And what are the most probable consequences of Ben and Locke (Ben especially) having this info?
We already know what Ben does to people that talk to Jacob right?
He gets rid of them.
Stopher is Lost 02-10-2008, 02:58 AM Hurley wants to leave because
-his best friend died
-His girl died
-his money is gone so perhaps his curse is over
Wy would he want to stay?
freighter hater 02-10-2008, 08:38 AM For those who think that Hurley can be soo easy manipulated by Ben...here's something to think about, Hurley picked up very quickly on Locke's, if not Ben's, reaction to what he said and thought of a lie pretty fast. I think Hurley has a good heart but he might not be as simple as people are making him out to be. Just a thought.

His best friend also warned him not to leave with these people but we know that he does anyway. "If you want to live, you gotta come with me"...and Hurley does but changes his mind for some reason.

Ahhh, but Ben has manipulated the best of them...Jack, Locke, even Jacob, so I doubt that manipulating Hurley would require more effort than those.

Not saying Ben can't do it, just that I think some posters are underestimating him. I think that what we're seeing this season is that Hurley is coming into his own, i.e. the walkie talkie scene, siding against Jack and so forth. But yeah, I too am pretty confident that Ben can get this done, he is the master. LOL
rtteachr 02-10-2008, 10:29 AM Hurley has seen Jacob assuming the the eye that looked at him through the window was Jacob.
ozieozwall 02-11-2008, 01:31 AM Hurley flubs the ball too much I think Locke probably kicks him out and the only place he has to go is home.
