View Full Version : Will the Heli make it to the Freighter??
Jack Sawyer 02-14-2008, 11:11 PM Considering the drop didnt arrive on time, I got thinking, is there something off with the distance between the freighter and the island? Why did it take longer for it land at the co-ordinates given? If this were to be the case, could Frank be wrong about not having enough gas to get to the freighter? You'd think he'd know, having done the trip before, but maybe leaving the ol' snowglobe is tougher (in its own right) that entering it?
Tom Chaney 02-15-2008, 04:44 AM I know it was a brief scene at the very end of the episode, but isn't that freighter really a looooong way out to sea from the island? From the vast expanse of ocean I saw, it seemed that the freighter could have come in a tad closer to the island.
woland 02-15-2008, 04:56 AM My question is was it foolish for Sayid to get on the helicopter. He is suspicious of the freighties. I know the losties need information on them, but it doesn't seem like good strategy. He doesn't know anything about them and if they are evil, and I suspect from all the flash forwards they are, they could do whatever they wanted to him he doesn't know how many of them there are.
drivshaftgroupie 02-18-2008, 08:36 PM I did think it was a bit strange that both Charlotte and Dan declined to return for a visit to the boat, it isn't like they couldn't hop the helicopter back to continue their investigations. Afterall, they already have one many kidnapped by the islanders, you'd think maybe they'd want to return to homebase for instructions. Meanwhile, Desmond and Sayid don't seem to second guess their decision to hop on the shady, low on gas helicopter with a possible enemy. Considering those on the boat seem to have no emotional ties to eachother it seems like they would be willing to sacrifice Frank, but we do know that Sayid comes out alive on the other side now don't we?
benmanrocky 02-18-2008, 08:41 PM I think they will make it to the freighter, but when they get there I don't think they will get a warm welcome.
trick64one 02-18-2008, 09:01 PM They will make it to the freighter but they came for Ben that's why they stayed ( Charlotte and Dan). So who would want Ben?

When Naomi first arrived at the island, I think she said the freighter was 80 miles off of the coast. I'm clueless regarding helicopter fuel tanks but even if they used a lot of fuel during the storm, trying to land, it certainly wasn't planned well. You bring up some good questions. One thing I've always wondered is 'why' the freighter would stay out of eyesight. That makes me wonder if there really is a freighter.
woland 02-18-2008, 09:09 PM I think Charlotte and Faraday stayed because they're scientists and both know the island is in Faraday's word, weird they want to study it. I think in this regard they're very naive. We know from Charlotte's flashback she knows something about the Dharma Initiative. And the freighter has information on the island. So she's read up on it but isn't actually prepared for being on the island. I don't think she expected to be used as a chess piece in a battle of wills. Look at her demeanor when she first got on the island, excited to be on the island and this episode, all of her preconceived notions about what her experiences on the island would be are chipping away. Obtaining Ben is only a small part of the freighties plans, they have a much larger goal.
shootingstar 02-18-2008, 09:15 PM I think that they will make it to the freighter. I think the danger is on the freighter more so than the helicopter ride. I did find it odd that Charlotte and Daniel didn't want to go back but they do seem to be really captivated by the island so I guess they didn't want to lose any time in going back and forth.

Sayid was actually very smart in this episode, and I think planning ahead very far ahead. The exchange of Miles for Charlotte keeps three of the four team members on the island and at the mercy of the losties. If anything happens to Sayid or Desmond, even Jack, who while suspicious believes the freighties are their best chance at rescue would turn on them. So holding the three freighties on the island ensures Sayid's safety, in his mind anyway.
Väinämoinen 02-18-2008, 09:26 PM I loved the image of Sayyid riding away from the island on the helicopter. That was enough to keep me happy for at least a week.
Who's prepared to not hear anything more about Sayyid and Desmond for a long, long time?
i_wana_get_lost_with_starla 02-18-2008, 09:30 PM I think they'll make it, I keep invisioning some odd looking ship out there though. NOT like a typical freighter, more like a science vesel with a bunch antenna's sticking out from it.
Imaging this for a sec, they get half way out there and the copter goes down, ... Frank, Des, and Sayid drifts back to the island days later.
"Driveshaft, more like Suckshaft"

I can also see them getting to the freighter and not finding physical danger but Sayid especially sensing something is off about the freighter and the people in the same way he sensed the four freighties were hiding something.
