Am I imagining it, or before Sayid and company went to the barracks, did he make a comment about not having sold his soul yet? So would that mean that the trade he made for Charlotte included selling his soul to Ben?

I am guessng soul selling comes later -- on the ship.

He said that he would sell his soul before trusting Ben again.

I guess there is a price for everything.

Just because Sayid is working for Ben doesn't mean that he trusts him. It simply means that he is 1)Being somehow made to work for Ben. or 2) He has a similar goal to Ben, like saving his friends, and must work for Ben. Neither need include trust by themselves.

All the time countries and people become allies with one another without fully trusting one another. So maybe Sayid hasn't sold his soul.

Yep. Whatever events occur that get the 6 off the island take some sort of sacrifice that's for sure.

I was going to post this until I saw someone else did.

I just watched for the second time and Sayid says that if he ever starts believing Ben, "he will have (already) sold his soul." Very big difference than saying "I would sell my soul BEFORE believing Ben."

One statement says that he would take one offer (selling his soul) over the other (believing Ben)

The other statement says that if he ever believes Ben, he would have sold his soul long before.

The way the writers specified makes me believe that something really bad happened to Sayid, for which he owes Ben a great deal. Ben mentions how Sayid was fooled into a false sense of security at one time ("You saw what happened last time you thought with your heart instead of your gun...") and misjudged someone.

It was also clear that Sayid can be fooled when during this episode, Hurley of all people, put Sayid together?

Who does Sayid misjudge that ends up causing him obvious pain. (Nadia? Was she working for the people on the list?)

How does this create an alignment with Ben?

When exactly did he sell his soul? Was it over this same incident or was it way before.? (On island or shortly thereafter)

What is the significance of Naomi and the German girl (Elsa?) having the same bracelet?

After watching again, I thought Sayid's statement...keeping in mind how it tied into the very last scene with Ben, was the line of the show..

AGREED! That line coupled with the ending scene dialogue made the pivitol WTF moment for me!
