View Full Version : Smokie and the cabin!
benmanrocky 02-15-2008, 12:59 AM So when Locke went to the spot where he saw the cabin it wasn't there. This got me to thinking that the cabin is nothing more than a form that the smoke monster takes. So maybe smokie is the cabin and it's Jacob also. Smokie could be the ancient and all powerful thing on the island.

Hey, don't treat people that way. Everyone is free to theorize as they see fit. Be courteous.

I can believe that Smokie controls the shelter for Jacob, and I also believe we saw a couple of weeks ago that the cabin isn't stationary. Finally I don't think everyone can see the cabin.
amadablam 02-17-2008, 06:37 PM Yep i have the thought that Jacob is everything you can consider 'not' normal on the Island. Smokie, cabin, christian, walt (appearing in strange places),yemi, kates horse,Hurley's friend Dave,Hurleys bird.....need i go on?
All Jacob!
Saukkomies 02-17-2008, 07:24 PM I posted a fairly lengthy discussion on the Cabin here (http://thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=89015) that basically tries to show that TPTB are using a particular motif of ghost story hauntings that describe houses that move or vanish and reappear - that the house itself is a haunting/apparition. One such very fine example of this is a house near the Bachelors Grove Cemetery near Chicago, which I talk about at great length in that above link.
I would say that there can be more than one apparition/ghost thingy on the Island - that the Cabin doesn't have to be Jacob. It would fit in quite well with the already existent ghost legends to have a dissapearing house connected with another separate haunting phenomenon.
galaxygirl 02-17-2008, 08:22 PM It's interesting(at least to me) that the ashes(?) surrounding the cabin when Locke and Ben went there, were still there.

I'm starting to think the ashes are somehow Smokey in dormant form, protecting the cabin. And maybe because Locke turned up there mob-handed, Smokey was able to cloak the cabin even though they were able to see the ashes supposedly where the cabin should be.
I think I just confused myself!

All Jacob!
Were I struggle is determining whether it is all Jacob or all Smokie. Smokie can occupy dead bodies so I can easily seem him occupying Jacob.

No, I got it and it makes sense. I can see it being that way, the cabin only being visible for a few special ones(Ben, Locke, Hurley) and if people come along it who are not 'chosen ones' smokey is able to hide it from them.

Thank goodness you understood what I meant galaxygirl, it made sense in my head
ulockeitup 02-18-2008, 09:01 AM There are obviously different levels of "special" people.
A normal person, or a group with normal people in it, will not be able to see the cabin.
A slightly "special" peson sees the shack. Ben must know locke is somewhat special because he does not flinch at the fact locke sees it.
A REALLY special person will see Jacob. This makes Ben and Hurley more special than Locke. Locke only gets a flash of Jacob while Ben is able to talk to him and Hurley sees him for a longer time than Locke did.
I would argue that it speaks volumes to how special Hurley is that the shack showed up special for him and shifted to reappear in front of him as he tried to run away.

Yeah, I too think Hurley will prove very important in the whole Jacob thing in future episodes.
amadablam 02-18-2008, 09:21 AM yes i thought that about Hurley when Jack went to visit him in the hospital. Did he not say 'he wants us back'? or something very much like that.
tommytoothpaste 02-18-2008, 09:28 AM That is probably the best avatar ive ever seen galaxygirl
Fiver 02-18-2008, 06:17 PM Perhaps the cabin is a metaphor, or hint about, the island itself. Maybe it disappears and then reappears, and only at certain times or for certain people.

I agree with both of these points. I think the fact that Hurley saw Christian/Jacob? will definitely be very important. But if Locke was important enough to see the Cabin before, why was he did he suddenly lose his "importance"? was it because he had other people with him? Or maybe only one person is supposed to be able to see it? Perhaps that's why Ben decided to kill Locke, because since Locke saw everything he knew he was no longer "important", and that the only way to keep it was to kill Locke, and since Hurley is now "important" Locke isn't. Wow, it's really amazing how many questions one little line of dialouge can bring up.
Maybe the cabin is only visible at night?
LockeProblm 02-18-2008, 08:25 PM I believe that Smokie is the manifestation of Jacob's spirit.
After all, Ben has said "Jacob isn't someone you go to see, he's someone who summons you." And Smokie is Jacob's spirit out there summoning people (*tempting* people) manifested as Jack's Dad, Echo's Brother, Ben Mother, etc, etc.
And when Locke and party couldn't find the cabin it was because they hadn't been summoned.
