View Full Version : I'm undecided but when I do I'll let you know
woland 02-15-2008, 01:11 AM I loved Naveen Andrews delivery of that line. The subtle threat in his voice. It said, If I decide you're a threat I'll kill you. Throughout the whole episode he didn't even consider Miles a threat. Of course after three months of dealing with the others and his experiences in Iraq he wouldn't be threatened by Miles. They also made Miles really arrogant and unctuous this episode so you didn't feel to sorry for him when he got captured. Just adds to my belief that the four freighties don't know what they're getting into.
Guinevere 02-15-2008, 01:18 AM I loved that scene too, woland. I think Miles thought before he came to the Island that he was Mr. Bad*** but is finding out quickly that there are "badder" folks than he on the Island and with a lot more motivation than money to spur them on.
Jack Sawyer 02-15-2008, 01:27 AM Great line. This whole episode was good for building up Sayid as a bad*** dude. A true leader (in his own right), a torturer, a diplomat, a spy, an assassin. While he's never been my favorite character he is very clearly the man.
woland 02-15-2008, 01:29 AM Sayid knows more about Miles than Miles knows about him. He knows Miles is self centered and in it for the money, he can use that as a wedge between the freighties. And if Miles is to be believed how stupid is he. He told Jack he didn't need to know why his people wanted Ben for what they were paying him. Assuming they were paying him millions of dollars why would someone go to an island to kidnap someone without knowing the reasons. I'd want to know why, because if it wasn't dangerous they wouldn't pay you a lot of money. But the real possibility exists that Miles is lying.

They may not know what they've gotten into but you'd think they would have heard and seen enough to get back on that helicopter and out of there. I find it so strange that Charlotte, after being shot by Ben and held hostage by Locke & co., decided to hang around because she's got work to do. Huh? What makes her think that if she goes traipsing off again she won't get captured again? Guess she really wants to find another polar bear.

Charlotte, from the behavior in the flashbacks and on the island has this feeling of invulnerability coupled with preconceived notions about what her experiences on the island would be like. She expected to be greated as a rescuer by the losties not an enemy, whether she knows the truth or thinks that she is there to rescue them we'll wait and see. All those preconceived notions are being chipped away, look at the glare of disgust she gave Sayid when he put his arm around her.
Madge 02-20-2008, 05:29 PM I do think the freight folk know about the crash survivors, Frank was able to study the manifest at the very least. (Why and how they know about them and that they survived is a whole 'nother question I would love an answer to but...) So if they do have some information about the Losties, why wouldn't Frank have known that Sayid was a torturer?
I do think the freight folk thought the Losties would be pushovers who just wanted to be rescued and are rather surprised that some of them are putting up a struggle.

Me too I'd like to know how they knew that there would be survivors.
I do agree that the freighter people were caught off-guard by the Losties.
Madge 02-20-2008, 07:41 PM Well, one thing in the Losties' favor is that Naomi didn't think the freight folk were right for the mission.
Pyrolite 02-20-2008, 07:54 PM I'm pretty sure the freighters know exactly what they are getting into. They were all selected for a specific reason and they are all there to do something. It didn't take Daniel long to whip out his gear to get the rocket test going. They obviously knew to test the timing (hence the clocks)....I assume this b/c I didn't notice him recieving anything from the payload...
And they knew there would be "hostiles" on the island. That would be why they have guns and vests. And it should be assumed that they knew (or they were supposed to find out) that there were survivors of flight 815. That would be why they have Frank and he studied the manifest. He calls and tells them that is not the pilot, and then convienently he is on the island and knows the list. This all leads us to beleive that they knew they were alive, but then confuses us when Charlotte "seems" surprised by them being there.
So the conclsion is this....they know EXACTLY what they are doing...they just may not be the best people to do (i.e. no training and what not...per Naomi)
Madge 02-20-2008, 09:12 PM Okay, I can accept they knew about the hostiles and natives, but I'm not quite clear on they would have known about the survivors unless Ben or one of his group some how put that out there. Supposedly they've been looking for this island for a long time and the shield or whatever was there before Des turned the key made the island invisible to the outside. Frank must have needed at least some time to study and memorize all the names on the manifest, probably more time then just after Jack made the call. I don't get how they knew about the survivors, or Oceanic for that matter because it seems clear the underwater crash site was a set up. I really hope they spell it out, using small words if necessary.
