Sayid asked Frank if he returned with Charlotte safe and sound would he take him to the BOAT, and Frank said if he returned with Charlotte he would take him off the ISLAND.

We have heard this one before. I don't know why they would fall for it again. I am betting they are not going to any freighter, they are going to a headquarters on the other island or somewhere else.

This is kind of in line with Frank saying Sayid "cheated". He was ok with it because he know he was sort of "cheating".

The real question is "Where are they really going?".

funny you brought that up considering, they were all supposed to be getting off the island anyways. isnt that it... they can only take so many at a time, etc, etc. so its just a back peddle of sorts anyway.

Well, I would think they are leaving the immediate vicinity of the Island since Dan was so adamant the Frank follow an exact bearing to get out.

They might be leaving, but I don't think they are going to a boat. Remember, Ben made a similar promise, to take the off the island, and he just took them to a smaller island close by. It just seemed suspicious to me that Sayid asked to go to the BOAT and Frank said he would take him off the ISLAND.

I thought the statement that he would take them off the island was very suspicious as well. I'm hoping that Frank was just trying to get Sayid's goat but it may be the writers trying to get ours. iIm getting a little weary of trying to separate the wheat from the chaff.

Considering previous posters have said the sat phones seem to indicate connections to the Portland area and not a freighter, it is possible they are closer to the US than we are led to believe.

Knowing the way things tend to go in this story, it's probably pretty safe to assume that things won't go smoothly for the losties on the helicopter. Promises really don't mean much in the world of LOST.

Frank seems to be a pretty good pilot, and he's obviously a pretty intelligent man (he memorized all the names of the folks on the plane, that seems to suggest he's good at using his brain :)). He was asking Jack a lot of questions about Sayid which makes me think he may have been sizing him up...trying to make a plan for what he would be dealing with.

The whole scene with the helicopter leaving the island made me uneasy. I don't think Des and Sayid are going to have a welcome wagon waiting for them when they arrive wherever they go. Esp. with a (seemingly? still not convinced) dead Naomi in tow.

I guess the real point i am trying to make is there is no boat.

The line really stood out, and your interpretation could be correct.

agree... it was too deliberate and specific,,, they ain't going to the 'Freighter" ..

i really doubt there is a freighter anyway

The idea that there is no boat and the helicopter is coming from land closer than we realize is an intriguing theory. We haven't actually seen a boat yet. Maybe it's a con by all the freighters. However, Ben did say he has a man on the boat. Yes, he's a liar, so does that mean he would be going along with the freighter's con for some reason? To protect the real location of the island? Seems a bit of a stretch since he doesn't want anyone to leave the island. Why would he give the losties motivation to try to contact the "imaginary" boat and allow the new four on the island? You'd think Ben would blow the lid off it is was a con and tell everyone there is no boat so they'd stop trying to leave, at least via the people he was trying to keep off island (and are trying to kill or capture him). But maybe all of this is part of Ben's larger agenda.....?

I think there is a freighter and that that's exactly where Frank was going to take them. The important thing to note is the parsing of words that is intricately designed into the show:

1- Ben tells Michael to follow a bearing of 325 and you will find RESCUE but he doesn't say that he will be taken home. And he doesn't say that he will enjoy what he finds.

2- Ben tells Jack that if he calls the freighties they will kill every single LIVING person on the island. He makes that seemingly unnecessary declaration becasue you obviously can't kill the dead, disembodied spirits walking the island.

3- In the Mobisode when Ben and Jack were playing chess Ben tells Jack that he INTENDS to honor the agreement. Jack even calls him on it, but Ben leaves open the possibility of fate or destiny making a choice for all of them.

4- Frank uses the same tactic when he says he'll take Sayid to the FREIGHTER. He never promises that freighter will take him home, nor does he imply that Sayid will be safe upon arriving at the freighter.

I know I am beating a dead horse here, but it is even worse than this. Frank never even promises to take him to the freighter. He just promises to take him off the island.

There is no freighter and I think when we finally find out where Sayid and Des are being taken is is going to be a real game changer.
