Well, since the episode has already aired I don't think this will qualify as a spoiler any longer so I'll come right out and explain....
In Jeff Jensen's article on EW.com today, he spoke with Damon and asked him to give us at least a small teaser/hint for tonights episode. Here is what he had to say:
Jeff Jensen: "To celebrate, you deserve a REAL tease about tonight's episode. So, ladies and gentlemen, I'm pleased to welcome to the column for the first time this season...executive producer Damon Lindelof"
Damon Lindelof: ''Well, I don't wanna give too much away, but let's just say this episode begins with a murder and ends with the first bird's-eye view of the Island in the history of the show.''
The last part of his statement I thought was interesting: ends with the first bird's-eye view of the Island in the history of the show. I thought this might be a major clue; but after watching the episode there was nothing odd about that scene I picked up on.... any ideas?? I didn't notice anything strange about the view of the Island Sayid had from the helicopter as it was flying off...did i miss something? Is it possible the room Ben was fixing up Sayid in was back on the Island??

Well...when it shows the bird's-eye view, to the right of the screen you can see the 4-toed statue...
Just kidding...
Sorry...I didn't notice anything, but that doesn't mean there was nothing there.
And, it is possible Sayid and Ben were back on the island. Sayid was pretty messed up though...it would have been hard for him to get all the way back to the island in that state. My guess is that Ben was somewhere pretty near where Sayid was staying with Elsa.

I think the bird's eye view was just a hint that we would finally see one or more of our Losties leaving the island via the helicopter. I find it interesting that Desmond left. What happened to his vision of Claire and Aaron on the helicopter? Maybe that will still happen but I never expected him to leave first.
(And a little OT but that helicopter scene brought back some wonderful memories for hubby and I. We took a helicopter tour of Kauai back in Sept. It was absolutely incredible! So this was nice, and on Valentine's Day, no less. :inlove: )

Silly thought, but maybe the island IS part of Hawaii? Just out of time and space?

wouldn't you consider the shot of Othersville in the season 3 opener a birds eye view? guess not

I don't see anything too relevant, It also isn't technically a bird's eye view but ah well :)

Pretty sure there was a helicopter shot in the finale of Season 1 of the raft leaving the island. (I get chills from the music and the view from that one...that's why I remember it :)...
But maybe that is not a "point of view" from a character (ie. Sayid/Desmond) so that's why Damon doesn't count it as the first bird's eye view of the island.

I agree with Lost in CA - nothing more than a clue that some would be going up in the helicopter.

I would expect the real birds eye view in the next episode. Like Sayid and Des looking back at the island (if its even possible to see the island, who knows) from way up high or from the freighter.
