View Full Version : Sayid gone from the island for good...?

Did anyone else get the impression from the shot of Sayid riding in the helicopter, looking wistfully at the island and then showing the helicopter fly off over the ocean the way it did -- that he won't be coming back?

It just seemed like they lingered on this for so long, with the music playing, like some sappy goodbye scene.

I wonder if once he gets to the freighter, he either won't be able to return, or won't be allowed.

i think you may be right. there was a sense of finality in way they shot that scene.

by the way, i was absolultely floored by the scene. whether or not sayid makes it back to the island is irrelevant to me right now. one of the losties has finally gotten off the island! just like that. i almost can't believe it.

I was wondering about this as well. It would be really cool if he was off the island for good. This way since they would have to keep focusing on Sayid because I mean he's Sayid, we could finally get some current off island action. I've always seen the show eventually going in a direction where we are seeing things happen OFF the island that have a direct effect on what is happening ON the island. It's just better that way because you get more perspective, we get to see more to the story, because after a while JUST seeing what's happening ON the island doesn't necessarily get boring but can easily become kind of redundant and stale. We need new and fresh things happening and this way that can absolutely be achieved. Also now that they have referenced all of these things happening off the island, Ben obviously being somewhere else pretty frequently, the freighter and their mission, the flashforwards, they HAVE to go off the island in real time and give us something. I want to see that freighter and Minkowski and what's going on on that thing. I want to see who is behind the obviously deep-seeded conspiracy involving the cover-up, the Oceanic 6 and speaking in terms of flash-forwards, the people back on the island.

I hope all of this is done soon. I have faith that they will get to some of that by the end of the season. The way this season is going though they will probably get there and go far beyond my expectations....let's hope!!!!!!!

i thought of that too. i kinda felt sadness for him, what he's about to become & why he will do those things -- to keep his friends alive.

I think he will be back for two reasons first is we need to see him strike the deal with Ben. In the future he apparently works for him so there has to be that moment where Ben manipulates Sayid into doing so. Second Ben made reference to Sayid repeating mistakes again, mistakes that took place on the Island that we haven't seen yet.

I couldn't agree more, sandiego!

I felt the exact same thing. Just the idea of watching someone leaving the island! I didn't even feel this way about Michael and Walt (but the reasons for that are a whole other thread  )

This is the post of the week! I totally agree 100%. Though those flash forwards of Sayid in tonight's episode were not current off island action. He did mention the Oceanic 6. But, yeah, I would like to seem some concurrent off island action as well!

I got the same impression. That was Sayid's farewell flight. I can tell because Survivor does the same thing when one of the survivors has to leave the game early. :rotflmao2: Same sappy music and overview of the island!

I think they will have a problem entering the island at the same bearing as they left leading to some kind of time differential. Daniel made too big a thing about the need to follow the same bearing no matter what.

Maybe you missed the last scene of the episode? Ben is not restricted to the island. He can cut deals with anyone, anywhere, (and according to some, anytime!)

I hope not. Sayid has always been my favorite.

i actually got the opposite impression, that it was not over for him at that point. not sure why though. the music gives that impression, but i think there have been other times in this show, where the music has tricked me. although i can't remember.

also i wonder where sayid's haste to leave came from? it didn't seem that this whole time he was pressed to leave until all of a sudden when he saw naiomi's bracelet, then all of a sudden jumped up and wanted to get out of there.... just struck me as odd... unless the message on the bracelet made him think of nadia or something....

Yes, I think Sayid is off the island for good. He has confronted his demons and gotten to the place he needs to be. He doesn't need to be on the island any longer.

I kinda felt like the haste came from him wanting to be able to take charge and be the first to investigate the frieghter. I do think he will be back on the island though before he's off for good.
