I had this feeling from the "Confirmed Dead" episode, but it is the fact that they both stay behind in this episode that makes me think there is going to be a developing contention between these two as they "explore" the island.
Daniel a Physicist is definitively trying to (with the first experiment) explain what is happening on the Island. Although Charlotte is a cultural anthropologist, she looks at the Island as some type of wonderland. Her C.S. Lewis sounding name tends to put her as a Woman of Science who cames to be a "Woman of Faith."
The connection one has made to C.S. Lewis' friendship with J.R.R. Tolkein (first name John). Could Charlotte and John actually become friends. Tolkein lead C.S. Lewis to faith. Could this be the same parallel?

have we met the new adam and eve from the cave?
Charlotte's an anthropologist who stated she has work to do. Seems to me like she's more science than faith, but we'll see I guess.

I see them the other way around.
Charlotte is a Woman Of Science. She has "work to do."
Daniel is a Man Of Faith because he seems to entertain concepts found more in theoretical physics than in hard physics. Daniel also appears to approach the Island from a more intuitive mode than in a hard scientific mode.

Locke also "has work to do" though. If you go on that comparison she could be a Woman of Faith.

Substitute Charlotte for Miles!!!!
Miles is mystical like Locke, but he also is very selfish. He doesn't seem to want to know about the Island so much as to see what he gets out of this whole thing. However, Charlotte is fascinated by the Island in more than just a "scientific" way. She is not a "Woman of Faith" at the moment. She is a woman of Science still, but I thnk that will change over time.

I don't think being "theoretical" makes you spiritual or more trusting in faith necessarily.
What Charlotte may turn out to be is a bridge between the Science Reason to the Faith Mystical. More or less what the real C.S. Lewis tried to do, but still he ended up being more of Faith than Science dependant.
