View Full Version : "Do you wanna protect your friends or not"?!
Electromagnetic Anomoly 02-15-2008, 11:28 AM "Do you wanna protect your friends or not"?! - BEN
Does Ben mean the Oceanic 6?! (well, other 5)
or
Does Ben mean the ones left behind on the island?!
Are the people on Sayids "Kill List" Dharma leftovers?!
LennonLives 02-15-2008, 11:32 AM Nah I don't think they are Dharmas probably just Widmore people or Oceanics
lostlocke 02-15-2008, 01:50 PM I've been racking my brain over this one. I can't wait to find out what friends Ben is referring to. My instinct told me that it was his friends still left on the island, but then I got to thinking that he may be protecting the rest of the oceanic 6 as well. I am at a loss, I can never figure anything out on this show! Who can?!!
HoardingHurley81 02-15-2008, 07:49 PM Ben's line as he is sewing Sayid up at the end of the eppy. This of course begs the question: his friends on the island? Or his friends of the "Oceanic 6" variety on the mainland?
stayinglost 02-15-2008, 08:00 PM I have been wondering the same thing. It didn't look like Jack was in fear for his life nor Hurley. We have not seen much of Kate's FF yet. Who knows... It could be either group.:eek2:
JDisLost 02-15-2008, 08:06 PM Hmm, that's a good question. I can't believe I missed that line, but anways, at this point I would think that it would probably be the people on the Island, because I'm pretty sure they were killing the peope to protect the Island, and if there are people there that would mean they are protecting them to.
shootingstar 02-15-2008, 08:20 PM The frist thing that popped into my mind when Ben said that is that the friends he's refering to are the Losties that are still on the Island. And who knows maybe even a little of the 06 as well.
kansasgal71 02-15-2008, 08:25 PM I think it is the losties left on the island he is protecting. When Abaddon went to see Hurley, and asked "Are they still alive" Hurley freaked out because he is also protecting his friends left behind. I think if Abaddon, or whomever wanted to hurt any of the O6, it would not be that hard for them to do. However, it seems to me that all the O6 are protecting the losties left on the island.
woland 02-15-2008, 08:39 PM I think both, the Oceanic 6 and the losties left behind. Judging from Abbadon's visit to Hurley his group thought and just learned that the losties were dead and the Oceanic 6 know the truth, so they and the losties still on the island are in danger. I think Ben, in his own warped way is trying to protect them all.
bakerboys 02-15-2008, 08:58 PM I thought Ben was referring to both groups as Hurley seemed very bothered by Abbadon and Jack sure isn't doing so well but that mostly Ben was referring to the friends who got left behind on the island.
Mad.Matt 02-15-2008, 08:59 PM Right now the island is in peril because someone found them and pinpointed the place. Now the freighties are here, and their bosses are "on the trail". I think we'll see that Ben ultimately reveals to Locke and others the true meaning of the island and the group will work in unison to expell (or kill) the freighties and restore the island to "hidden" status. Once that's done, Ben (with Sayeed and maybe others) will work to kill anyone who is continuing to try to find the island (again). Perhaps the industrialists' finding and compromising the island and its inhabitants is of itself a critical part of the Valenzetti equation. That would be pretty sugary though; - Widmore or Paik or whoever finally bites it, the numbers change, the world is saved, everyone on the island lives happily ever after.
I suspect it will be a bit more bittersweet; - the island is saved at the cost of the rest of the world, or vice versa.

melanielost 02-15-2008, 09:42 PM when i heard that.. .my face... was... :eek2:
So Ben stil behind them... Ben got Sayid in his tramp.
dacheedster2690 02-16-2008, 12:33 AM yes the first thing that came up in my mind after hearing that line was, Sayid is somehow protecting his friends still on the island. Abbadon and his company still desperately want to get back on the island and either retrieve the people stranded there or try and exploit the island.
hskr_n_hi 02-16-2008, 07:51 PM I think it could be both. Sayid could be doing Ben's bidding to protect the island from being found by the bad guys, and he may be protecting the rest of the 6 from being caught/interrogated by the bad guys. We've seen that Abaddon now knows where Hurley is (from the news coverage?), and we know that shook Hurley up more than a bit. (BTW, I wonder if Jack is going to receive a similar visit from Abaddon? He was featured in news coverage about the family he saved in the car accident...that would have shown his whereabouts, or at least approximate whereabouts, anyway.) So perhaps Sayid is working through a list of folks that would eventually try to reach the 6 and work information out of them?
And, as usual, I don't think that Ben gives a rat's hiney about Sayid's friends. His one concern is for the island. (Which - and I know this is unrelated, sorry - but, WHY? We know that the island has "special" properties, but we've yet to see what POSITIVE goodness the island has shown him to make him so adamant about protecting it. So far, it's trapped him with an abusive father, led him to visions of his dead mother, introduced him to people who would then convince him to commit mass genocide, he's been beaten, kidnapped, tortured, near death...but what GOOD has he gotten from the island that has so captured his loyalty?)
CharliesHoodie 02-16-2008, 08:46 PM I initially thought he was referring to the 06. But he could be protecting the ones left on the Island...but why would Ben support Sayid in protecting them? (Unless, of course, they have some sort of deal/exchange.)
lockesmithe 02-16-2008, 09:35 PM Not enough information for me to make an educated guess, but if I winged it, I think Ben might be referring to Sayid's friends on the island. Jack, Kate, and Hurley are or have been out in the open. Had someone wanted them dead, it would have been all too easy to send an assassin to take them out.
Another related question--when did Ben recruit Sayid? Was it as early as when they were inprisoned in "The Economist"?
Jack Sawyer 02-16-2008, 09:56 PM My first thought was always that he was referring to those left on the island. As a poster above me pointed out, Jack and Hurley didn't look to worried/scared.
Maxum 02-16-2008, 10:28 PM I think it could be both. I think it's both too. There's no reason to believe that it can't be both.
I initially thought he was referring to the 06. But he could be protecting the ones left on the Island...but why would Ben support Sayid in protecting them?
I don't think Ben gives a hoot about protecting them. Ben knows his friends are Sayid's weakness, and as always, Ben is exploiting it. "Find out what they are emotionally invested in and exploit it."
Not enough information for me to make an educated guess, but if I winged it, I think Ben might be referring to Sayid's friends on the island. Jack, Kate, and Hurley are or have been out in the open. Had someone wanted them dead, it would have been all too easy to send an assassin to take them out.
But what if Jack, Kate, and Hurley have no idea that their lives are in danger. Maybe Ben or whomever is stating "We know where you friends are (the '05), and you know what we'll do to them . . ." ect. There's no indication that the Oceanic 6 are safe. This is why the "friends" that Ben is referring to could mean both groups - the ones off island, and the ones still on the island.
My first thought was always that he was referring to those left on the island. As a poster above me pointed out, Jack and Hurley didn't look to worried/scared.
They may not know yet.
HoardingHurley81 02-18-2008, 01:32 PM I think both, the Oceanic 6 and the losties left behind. Only when it Ben-efits him....lol....sorry, that was very lame:frown:
Confidence-Man 02-18-2008, 01:35 PM Nah I don't think they are Dharmas probably just Widmore people or Oceanics
After rationalizing I believe the list is Whitmore associates. I think the remaining Dharma people have ventured out to the Island at some point after not hearing from their people and are probably dead as well. Do we know if Dharma is still an active company?
JDisLost 02-18-2008, 06:05 PM I have a quick off topic question, do we know for a fact that the stuff with Jack was before the stuff with Hurley and Sayid? Because when we saw him in The Begginging of the End he really didn't seem to be to worried about the Island.

Except for the fact that at the end of the eppy he is crying telling Kate that they need to go back. That was pretty convincing that he cared about the island....
JDisLost 02-18-2008, 07:06 PM No, no, the Beginning of the End is the Season was this season's premier. That was the end of Through the Looking Glass.

My bad, I'm confused.....I will now have to concur with your observation. He is in selfish mode, looking out for #1.
