View Full Version : Ben's Black Map
james_sawyer 02-14-2008, 10:52 PM Did anyone catch the picture on the wall in the barracks, inside the room where Kate and Sawyer were?
Could it have been this?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Shamballa
If so, it supports the Shaballa theory even more. Go to that link and look at the picture, and then compare it to the one on the wall we saw tonight. Are they the same?
ozieozwall 02-14-2008, 11:18 PM Inner Earth just keeps Popping up Everywhere all kinds of signs and tidbits seem to keep pointing to Inner Earth.
Flotsam 02-15-2008, 07:09 AM That picture's giving me my own flashback. (wink)

It was a star chart of the Northern Hemisphere, seen here.....

It is rotated 90° counterclockwise, as seen in the room with Kate and Sawyer.
Iamonthemanifest 02-17-2008, 12:16 AM If this has been mentioned already, excuse me please. I searched high and low, and cannot believe nuttin's up.
When they are showing Ben's house, there are a few clips (will post asap) of a big, square. black map on the wall. It's shown as if tptb want us to notice is. Sawyer is standing almost in front of it, then it was shown in a pan of the room.
I am almost certain it is one of those estimations of the world in its pre-continental drift phase..cannot recall what the geologists call it..Anyone...Beuler...anyone?
So, I still have more searching, but it this works out, it will go along with another theory that I will stick in here later, unless I am flamed.;)
EDIT: Here is cap with the map: http://gallery.lost-media.com/displayimage-1376-416.html
I'd really appriciate someone with technabiliites that can give a cap from tvo. I think it could also be a constelation map, but cannot see from the glare in the shot.
Okay, did some research. The name of the one single continent before the plates broke up into what the world is today, is Pangea. Link (http://images.google.com/imgres?imgurl=http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/images/drift/PangeaUltima_med.jpg&imgrefurl=http://science.nasa.gov/headlines/y2000/ast06oct_1.htm&h=235&w=450&sz=22&hl=en&start=28&um=1&tbnid=y0cEdaHw7HaDtM:&tbnh=66&tbnw=127&prev=/images%3Fq%3Dpangea%26start%3D18%26ndsp%3D18%26um% 3D1%26hl%3Den%26sa%3DN)
So, remember the archeological site? This might be somewhere else in this forum, but just to tie it in:
When Charlotte saw the polar bear bones, I think they were actually those of the bear that Sawyer? I think, shot, the first bear they saw. Charlotte was just in a later time frame. The explanation of the location coincides with Pangea. Maybe the Island, in it's old location, was actually a part of Tunesia. Then with all the time scramble mumbo, the bear got stuck there...remember the sand dunes in the background? Maybe that's what's left of the mountains. Remember how surprised and delighted Charlotte was when she looked down and saw water? As if she couldn't believe it?
None of this should be considered spoilers because it is all based on what we saw.
LO_Brother 02-17-2008, 12:37 AM You mean Pangaea?
Ninotchka 02-17-2008, 12:41 AM Some say it's a star chart from '80s.
gammaquest 02-17-2008, 12:42 AM There is a big black astrological chart on the wall in the bedroom...not sure if that is what you're referring to!!
Iamonthemanifest 02-17-2008, 01:04 AM Wow, thanks for the quick replies. I was still editing. So, okay, we all agree that it's a star chart. I better start wearing glasses when I watch eps heh?
gammaquest 02-17-2008, 01:10 AM Actually, it was a good catch I think. I kind of forgot about it until I saw your post but then I remembered that:
On the bonus disk of Season 3, Michael Emerson hints that this chart is very similar to another map/chart we have already seen. I'm assuming he means the Hatch map.
So it may be worth studying some more...
baylady 02-17-2008, 01:36 AM It's most definitely a chart of the sky, stars, constellations and stuff. I bought that poster, from The Nature Company, I think, in the 80's for my father, a high school science teacher. I had it framed in simple black, under glass, and it still hangs in the home office (brother's old bedroom) at my parents' house. I recognized it immediately when I saw the episode. It's pretty cool because the stars glow in the dark.
Saukkomies 02-17-2008, 02:12 AM This actually did come up in another thread in this episode, as well as it being discussed in previous episodes from last season. We've seen this star chart in I believe what is now going on three separate episodes (I may be wrong, it might only be two episodes). It was definitely shown in "The Man Behind the Curtain". There was some discussion about it last season, but it really doesn't signify anything hugely profound ... probably. Who knows? My take on it is that Ben keeps it up on his wall in a prominent place because it reminds him of Annie who he used to hang out with as a kid on the lawn in the Barracks compound at night and name the constellations. I think it's a bittersweet childhood thing for him.

here is a picture. It is also being discussed on Ho Ho Ho.......
It repersents the star formation and the center of the universe.
