I think he thought it was the 10 of hearts and it ended up being the 3 of clubs. But I could be wrong. My recall isn't what it could be either.

It was the 3 of Spades. I think this is a significant clue, just have to figure out what it means. Typical Lost :)

In my most humble opinion, I think Daniel and Charlotte are aware that the island causes some 'unusual' side-effects, and were testing Daniel, and probably Charlotte too, (off-screen), to see if there were developing super-natural abilities.

They were also testing the effects of the island on their cognitive functions, as well.

I'm thinking Alzheimers, and he is trying to reverse it somehow. Also the time shift on entry might cause some short term memory misfunction. Because truely our losties didnt really have time to think, the plane was in bits, people were hurt etc...

Yeah, the whole painting is odd, and I'm noticing a recurring theme of bicycles. Even the Orchid video has a few seconds of upside down bicycle footage. I read the Third Policeman book, and it was truly bizarre. In that book, people were slowly turning into bicycles. Really, really strange, and I can't see how it relates??

I pretty sure we've seen the hallway one before, as the cover of one of the sci-fi books referred to on Lost. The writing on it looks to be Russian.

This is definitely a Seven of Spades. There's another thread that discusses the significance of this card being placed in Aaron's room here (http://thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=89709). This thread is looking at the cards from what their significance would be if they were Tarot cards. The Seven of Spades would be the Seven of Swords in the Tarot deck, which has the meaning of Theft, Kidnapping, Betrayal, Dishonesty, Taking the Easy Way Out, Dishonor, and Running Away From Your Responsibilities. All of which are incredibly insightful, I think...

The card is a Seven of Spades. You only see six spades on the card from the angle of the view of the screencap, but there are actually seven spades on the card, not six. And the numbers indicate also that it is a seven.
