There was something fishy about Kate's mom appearing at the trial. For one, I expected her to be dead after all this time. And did anyone else think that she might be working for someone who wants to get their hands on either Aaron or Kate's child (depending on what they suspect about the kid's identity?) Could Kate be raising Aaron because he needed to be hidden?

Gut feeling: She's a dying woman who wants to see her grandchild (or the child she believes to be her grandchild).

But I like the idea that she has an ulterior motive, too. Nice.

Also I think they wanted to establish that the outside world believes that this is Kate's baby (not Claire's)

Oooooh! No, that didn't occur to me, but I like it! It was kind of odd that Mom only realized she loved her daughter after finding out she was dead. It's okay if you spend the rest of your life in jail, just don't die. Oh, you're alive! All better now.
I'm sure Kate is claiming him as her own to protect him.

Couple off thoughts - one more crazy than the other:

1)What if one of the big reasons Kate is so opposed to a 30 second introduction of Aaron to grama is because all it would take is 5 seconds for grama to realize it is NOT Kates kid and looks NOTHING like her???

2)I could go along with this conspiracy that Kates mom is working for the "bad guys" (aka Abbadon/Oceanic/Dharma...) What if "Jacob" cured her in exchange for services concerning Kate (a manipulation through other parties)...just as was claimed to be the case (off island) with Juliet's sister ???

What do you think?

#1 occurred to me too. I'm sure Diane would be able to tell.

I think that's why Kate was so adamant against Aaron at the trial, and why she refused her mother's request so vehemently. It would be clear to her mom that Aaron is definitely not her biological child.

I had the same feeling as Flotsam: a dying grandmom who wants to see (what she believes is) her grandchild for once.
I thought the reason Kate didn't want her to see the child was because she wanted to get back at her mother. Her mother, who she feels has betrayed her.
The fact that after Kate's refusal her mom is having doubts about testifying, gave some support to this view. As if her mother is finally realizing what she has done.

Diane said that although the doctors told her that she had 6 months to live she's stayed alive for longer than that time. IMO, Diane did not look or act like she was removed from her death bed & be able to sit up in a wheelchair to testify against her daughter. I didn't get that it was a deathbed request. So then I thought Kate's refusal was because of revenge. She's holding a grudge against her mother for ratting her out to the cops when she sneaked into the hospital to see her. And then there was that assumption that Diane wouldn't testify - if only she could see her grandson - which further ticked Kate off. Although Diane tried to use this ploy with Kate it all ended up with Diane not testifying anyway. Knowing this maybe Kate will soften her stance in the future?

Diane thinks that Aaron will heal her.

#2. When mom said she'd been given 6 months for 4 years, I thought of Juliet's sister - Ben claimed to have control whether she was healed or not. I wondered if Ben has a hand in Kate's mom's longevity. I hadn't thought about using Kate's mom to get to Aaron though. That's good.

Was it ever established (in previous Kate FBs) what exactly Diane had been dying from prior to the crash?

Whatever it was may have gone into remission.

Diane thinks that Aaron will heal her.

My thoughts exactly.

Aaron seems to make people 'whole'. Look at Claire and all her 'goodness'; Charlie, who changed and gave his life for others; Kate who now has Aaron is a different woman; and last but not least . . . Jack . . . who doesn't want anything to do with kate's son .... well .... look at him in his flash forwards ... hes a mess. ..... hmmmmmm

Walt is special but Aaron is not. he's just a baby.

Kate is a joke, she killed her father and she's angry at her mother because she ratted her out lol

Poor girl doesn't understand she's a criminal.

I thought this as well.

As to Kate's mom wanting to see the baby, nothing could be more natural, or in this case, more selfish. Kate reacted the way she did because it was confirmation-- as if she needed any more-- that her mom doesn't really care about her. She only wanted to see her grandson! Since Aaron isn't even her real grandson, Kate doesn't have any problem denying that request. She knows she's not even supposed to HAVE Aaron; I think her main goal in life right now is protecting him.

Poor Kate. She kills her abusive stepdad to protect her mom (and herself, I've always guessed, and I know I'm not alone in that conjecture) and now she's got nuthin' but a little boy she feels horribly guilty about.

All the best cowgirls have mommy issues, I guess.

Could Kate's mom be related to Claire (Mom or Aunt) and that be her reason for wanting to see Aaron?

If things were happening in close-to-real-time, there would not be any way for Kate to show up with a baby when they take 9 months to bake. Any way you slice it, the kid must have been someone else's and she adopted it OR she named her offspring after Aaron on the island (which I doubt, again, according to the timeline)

Yeah, I was reading in some other thread (sorry, can't remember which one) about Juliet's FB, right before she goes into her sister's apartment ( I believe it's the first time we see her sister and we find out that she has cancer), Ethan walks by right before Juliet gets in. Could they'd been injecting the sister with something that..well gave her cancer? And if so, could the same be happening with Kate's mom?
So what if they (whoever they are) are threatening K's mom that if she doesn't help them find "Kate's son" (aka Aaron) they'd let her die?? Far fetched, I know.

And what would this mean anyway, they infect people with cancer so they can get them or their relatives on the island?? :frown:
