How is Kate able to live in such a nice home and have a maid to boot.
Even if we assumed that they were 3 yrs into present. Any money she would of made, would be tied up in courts and lawyer fees. Since she was told they know who she is and what she did.

Settlement. Oceanic. Ka-ching.

Settlement. Oceanic. Ka-ching.

I agree. Sayid mentioned last episode that he does not have to work because of the big settlement he received from being one of the O6. We know that he does work...but I am sure that Oceanic would give the O6 a big settlement for all the lies they have to tell for them.

Paid off by Oceanic? Paid off by Widmore? Paid off by Dharma? The O6 are probably telling lies for LOTS of people. Jack has obviously spent all his on booze and drugs, instead of a nice house like Kate. ;)

It was nice. I am wondering if they'll tell us in the enhanced epi next week whose house it really is. :)

That's funny. Even though he probably got some dough from Oceanic (or whomever), and even though he's a freaking surgeon, Jack insists on driving that beat-up truck. Ha!

Jack probably feels too guilty to use any of the money.

Do you mean in real life or on the show? If it's on the show, why wouldn't it be Kate's?

Kate seems to have a lot of money.

Of course she does - I'm sure they all got a HUGE settlement.

I'm sure the Oceanic settlement was enough to buy a nice house, I don't see what the big deal is? Sayid said he didn't have to work anymore because of it, so I don't think having a nice house is that odd.

The settlement could have been as much as $3.2 million....

I got the feeling he didn't start using those until he started having his breakdown.

My husband and I own a nice business and he won't stop driving his beat up truck. It's paid for and it keeps on riding like the energizer bunny. He drives my car if we go somewhere, but around town, it's the junkyard dawg :)

My guess.

The Oceanic 6 were bribed and threatened to keep quiet.

Kate has been a fugitive for what, three years now? Still she is able to afford what appears to be her own attorney ($300-600 an hour), afford a nanny, and an extremely nice home in what I assume to be in the LA area. Who is paying Kate's expenses and why?

she's part of the Oceanic 6 which received a large settlement.

I'm assuming she got an Oceanic settlement like Sayid...Oceanic or Widmore...whoever wants them to keep quiet.

Oops, sorry, TPS, we posted at the same time.

Yeah, the Oceanic 6 are all wealthy now thanks to nice fat Oceanic settlements.

Absolutely respectable. If I were doing better financially, I'd do the same thing.

Maybe since Jack left Sarah with "the cars" (plural) he's decided to live -- and drive -- more simply. Come to think of it, Jack ends up in a plain little apartment, doesn't he?

Even if Kate she passed Aaron off as her own child when she and the Oceanic Six got rescued (stating to the media that she was three months pregnant when the plane crashed, and that she gave birth 2-3 months premature) - - how would Kate have had time or means to secure such a quaint suburban living arrangement?

Wouldn't Kate have been arrested immediately upon arriving back in the U.S.?

Wouldn't the authorities have performed a DNA test to make sure Aaron was really Kate's biological son?

And if she was being held in prison (because how would she have been let out on bail?), how did Kate find the time or resources to buy such a nice, beautiful home in the suburbs AND hire a nanny?

This makes me suspect that whoever's behind the conspiracy (Widmore/Paik/Hanso?) knows that Aaron isn't Kate's biological child, yet they are pulling strings to help Kate perpetuate this lie to the rest of the world...probably knowing that they can blackmail/coerce Kate into remaining silent about what REALLY happened with the plane crash.

All they have to do is threaten that they will harm Aaron if Kate doesn't go along with the charade.

Oceanic Airlines settlement, due to a slight detour in flight plans. lol
With money, anything is possible, she even has a Nanny.

I'm also trying to figure this all out. I mean, how did Kate go from the island to her posh house (clearly paid for by the Oceanic settlement), without being carted off to jail right away? How did she elude capture by the feds for so long after becoming famous as one of the O6?

Hopefully, Darlton and Co will explain this down the line.

They got the settlement and in the episode there is a statement about Kate being free after her arraignment hearing until the first trial (when she goes to jail).Sometimes it can take six months to a year for a case to go to trial so it is possible that she's been off island and living comfortably for awhile before she initially went to jail.

This can be true, sometimes, but Kate was a fugitive on the lam for murder (not to mention all those other crimes), and she'd been apprehended prior to the crash. There's no way the feds wouldn't immediately remand her the second she arrived back in the U.S.

They did, and she was released on her own recognisance until her trial. She still got millions though from Oceanic Airlines (We assume) And regardless if you are a murder suspect or not, millions will buy a nice house.

But shouldn't her *** been in jail, while she was awaiting trial? As the judge had pointed out, she was definitely a flight risk.

What SHOULD happen in our REAL world and what we are TOLD happened in the story that is LOST are not going to be the same. It was made very clear that Kate had been free prior to trial. Doesn't really matter if we THINK she should have been in jail, she just wasn't, that was very much explained in this episode.

I'd say she could buy a nice house with the $3.2mil settlement she got....
