On the island Jack wasn't aware that he and Claire were half-siblings. At the time of the flashforward, Jack has been made aware that Aaron is his nephew. This upsets Jack because his dad cheated on his mom and had a daughter with another woman.

It's a theory. I can't think of any other reason that he'd be so afraid to see the baby. he was never afraid of Aaron before. That's the only answer I can think of.

The fact that you use the word afraid, brings a new light to this.

What if Jack is actually afraid of Aaron? As in Aaron is capable of doing things.

My thoughts were that Jack did (or didn't do) something that caused Claire to die and he can't bear the guilt of seeing Aaron. Although it seems like he should get over it since it is his nephew.

Maybe the other woman were not allowed to leave the island. Except for maybe Sun, who would have her hands full with her own baby.

I didn't get the feeling that Jack was afraid to see Aaron, more that he felt too guilty to see Aaron. I think that whatever happened to cause Aaron to end up with Kate, is also causing feelings of guilt or shame in Jack. Possibly that Claire dies due to some action (or inaction) on Jack's part.

Jack is afraid of being reminded of whatever bad thing happened on the island. After all, the official story is that they (the Oceanic 8) are the only survivors. So far Jack and Hurley have wondered if they had done the wrong thing by leaving. Perhaps it wasn't the actual leaving, but what they had to do in order to leave.

Jack testified in court that there were only 8 survivors ON THE ISLAND, not 48 or whatever the real number is. that said alot to me, mainly that leaving the rest there is the "secret" jack wants hurley to keep. thats why abbadon asked hurley if they are still alive and hurley freaked out because he feels as guilty as jack does about it. so, something happens to claire and kate takes aaron off the island with her, but she has to clame that he is hers to make their story that there were only 8 survivors work.

OR, neither claire or aaron made it off the island and kate named her son after him. she did seem pretty genuine when she mentioned her "son" to her mother so...
