Isn't she technically still married to him? palomino_grl78 02-22-2008, 09:05 AM I don't know if their marriage was valid in the first place since she used an assumed name. I am sure marriage laws vary state to state but I am sure that the marriage was unulled (sp?) since it happened under false pretenses and a legal named wasn't used by one of the participants. Still wouldn't it make sense that he also would have heard about the crash rescue and trial on the news. After all, assumed name or not, to him she was his wife is all i'm saying. I guess its just another thing the writers want us to "forget". palomino_grl78 02-22-2008, 09:15 AM I got you. ;) It would have made sense for him to make an appearance at her trial. Flotsam 02-22-2008, 09:19 AM After she drugged him and admitted to being a fugitive, I'd assume good ol' Officer Kevin was a wee bit heartbroken, and maybe didn't want anything to do with Kate. Unless, of course, he shows up again in a future episode... Tattoo 02-22-2008, 09:23 AM If the tables were turned and the husband had a huge cash settlement. Her lawyers would pry half if not all away from him, fraudulent wedding or not. BuffyMars 02-22-2008, 11:56 AM I think they're divorced. I wouldn't be surprised if they had called him as a witness, but I wasn't surprised not to have seen him either. biggerricker 02-22-2008, 12:21 PM Still wouldn't it make sense that he also would have heard about the crash rescue and trial on the news. Hiring a heavyweight character actor like Nathan Fillon for a short arc makes no sense to me. IMHO if I discovered my wife was living under an assumed name, was a fugitive on a murder beef, drugged me and split. I would be consulting a divorce lawyer. Probably wouldn't take long for a Judge to grant a divorce of the deceived, drugged, and abandoned police officer. asim1701 02-22-2008, 12:29 PM does the marriage get annulled if ur considered dead? Maybe he married someone else again, a la Castaway (Tom Hanks)? Me 02-22-2008, 12:31 PM The marriage, in any state, would not be legally binding if it is entered into under duress or with any falsification. Instantly makes it null and void. lostgurl 02-22-2008, 12:51 PM I don't know where he is, but I hope we see him again because Nathan Fillion is awesome. I'm thinking with only so many episodes left, that he might not be an important part of the story anymore. Madge 02-22-2008, 12:58 PM My guess would be that the marriage was never valid to begin with. I was rather hoping to see Nathan in the courtroom though. It doesn't seem unreasonable that he would want to see what happens to her. Then again, he does live in Florida and she's in LA right? Hmm, he could still show up sometime, I'm sure he has lots of questions for her. GettinLost 02-22-2008, 01:24 PM Yeah! Bring on the Ex-husband!!! I think he needs to be a part of this story!! Especially since it's Nathan Fillion and I would LOVELOVELOVE to see him!!  LovesLaboursLost 02-22-2008, 01:28 PM The marriage, in any state, would not be legally binding if it is entered into under duress or with any falsification. Instantly makes it null and void. As does death. Me 02-22-2008, 01:53 PM As does death. If the marriage was valid in the first place ( kate's was not) being found alive again would make that a whole other stick situation ;) lostnthesoutheast 02-25-2008, 02:37 PM It would have made sense for him to make an appearance at her trial. This is what I think too. And it would certainly seem to me like a police officer's testimoney would carry a lot more weight at a trial than a Doctor's would on the subject of her character. But then maybe like everyone else in Kate's life, he still so in love with her that could never bring himself to testify against her. nynaeve 02-25-2008, 03:08 PM maybe he's just moved on with his life. biggerricker 03-08-2008, 04:19 PM Can the DA call character witnesses? I think Kate's jilted police officer ex would be a devastating witness. This prosecutor makes Marcia Clark look competent! Why would she deal such a high profile case. Put her mom on the stand and treat her like a hostile witness. |
