Anyone else think the light Daniel used on his rat looked a lot like the flash in the sky when the hatch exploded?

I think the light produced electromagnetic rays.

I hadn't thought of that. Wasn't it radioactive? (the light on the rat, hence Dan's suit?)

It was suppose to be radioactive, but it could have been a smaller version of what the hatch protected?

Totally!!!!

Thats the first thing I thought as well!

Nice to see I'm not the only one that thought this.

Actually, I thought that was the lamest part of the episode. That should mean that anyone who gets a big, sudden dose of radiation should become "unstuck in time" . . . but there's no record of that in all of history. Instead, your hair falls out, you vomit, you die, etc. Much less glamorous.

But I see your idea that this was some "special" form of radiation. That makes it a little more plausible.

Yeah, with the magical settings, 2.342 oscillating @ 11 Hz, I would assume it's some special sort of electromagnetism or radiation.

I still firmly believe that we haven't heard the end of The Swan, or its implosion...

And with Daniel and Charlotte bothing wearing biohazard suits in the preview for the next episode, let's all cross our fingers and hope our not-so-friendly scientists will be revealing more and more about the properties of the island in the coming weeks.

Exposure to radiation doesn't cause the time-tripping, it makes you more susceptible to the phenomenon when you are on or near the island.

yes! our little "watching group" was like... that light is TOTALLY purple, "the sky went purple!!!"

But Eloise never went to the island.

But Eloise never went to the island.

True, but I don't think it requires the island. The island might be related, and leaving the island through that storm might trigger something.

Anyone care to hypothesize how Daniel's device works? Since we're dealing with pseudo science here, all explanations are valid.

I'm thinking, electromagnetic waves, much like what was released by the hatch imploding, are effecting the electromagnetic impulses in the brain causing the mind to enter an alternate stream of consciousness.

The variables and hertz cycle control how and when the mind enter the stream.

That's all I have for now.

Any other ideas?

I noticed the colour of the beam the device made was the same colour the sky turned when the implosion occurred.

Sounds good to me. I haven't got a clue.

Another thing to factor in is that the light was in a controlled environment, and the hatch exploding was definitely not a controlled environment.
