View Full Version : DesPenny reunion!
LostLaura 02-28-2008, 11:19 PM My heart is melting! That scene was literally one of the most beautiful, moving scenes of love I have ever seen on television. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a huge DesPenny fan. But I was bawling!
Penny is Desmond's constant.
axpo23 02-28-2008, 11:23 PM ME TOOOOO! I was totally crying. And she was all decorated for Christmas, just waiting for his call.
<starting to tear up again>
nancy 02-28-2008, 11:23 PM It was beautiful, especially at the end when they were talking at the same time. Did I miss it or did Penny explain at the end there what started her looking for Desmond 3 years ago? I know she said that when she talked to Charlie she knew she had been right and that he was alive. But what started her looking after 5 years of his being gone?
GettinLost 02-28-2008, 11:23 PM They really did pull the stops out with that scene didn't they! I thought it was romantic and sweet and just everything you would want in a "love that lasts forever" romance!! Yea DesPenny!!
BillToons 02-28-2008, 11:23 PM If that scene didn't choke you up... nothing ever will.
Diesels Blitz 02-28-2008, 11:25 PM Great scene! I want Des and Penny to be together more than anything! They are one step closer now.
Guinevere 02-28-2008, 11:28 PM If that scene didn't choke you up... nothing ever will.
Amen!! I think even Sayid had a tear in his eye by the end of that call. ;) I thought it was one of the most touching scenes ever in the show. :hearts:
green_eyed_colleen 02-28-2008, 11:28 PM When they were talking like that all I kept saying was "Don't die Des!"
I kept thinking that might be a way to finish it for them. They talk and BAM!
I was so happy they got to talk. It was so emotional and I fantastic. LOST has the best writers in the business.
bawstngrl 02-28-2008, 11:29 PM My heart is melting! That scene was literally one of the most beautiful, moving scenes of love I have ever seen on television. ......
Penny is Desmond's constant.
Just too awesome...so very touching and I usually am NOT a softie ....
LOVED IT!!!!!!
Kate731 02-28-2008, 11:34 PM It was really beautifully done. Perfect scene.
Desmond always gets the most moving, tear-worthy scenes in the show. This one was almost as emotional as Charlie's death in TTLG, only it was happier.
freighter hater 02-28-2008, 11:35 PM I find it incomprehensible that the same people who gave us that have been giving us the Jack/Kate/Sawyer garbage.
Very well done. I really hope Des doesn't die now.
erin1679 02-28-2008, 11:36 PM My heart was pounding, waiting for her to answer! Once she did, though, and started crying, that was the end for me. So moving!
Jedierica 02-28-2008, 11:36 PM My heart is melting! That scene was literally one of the most beautiful, moving scenes of love I have ever seen on television. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a huge DesPenny fan. But I was bawling!
Penny is Desmond's constant.
Yes I too was tearing up a bit. It was great to see them get to talk. I was so glad that she told Desmond that she knows about the Island and has been searching for it.
ortiz34 02-28-2008, 11:39 PM great scene...and on xmas eve...
tekneck 02-28-2008, 11:47 PM My heart is melting! That scene was literally one of the most beautiful, moving scenes of love I have ever seen on television. Maybe I'm biased because I'm a huge DesPenny fan. But I was bawling!
Penny is Desmond's constant.
My eyes were tearing up too, and i'm a big man! forget jack/kate/sawyer/juliet, this love story has/was/will always be the one i'm interested in and the only love story of any real substance. i love penny! i wish there was a real girl like her
benmanrocky 02-28-2008, 11:48 PM It was pretty emotional, my wife caught me with a tear in my eye.
Selene1212 02-29-2008, 12:24 AM If that scene didn't choke you up... nothing ever will.
Yes I too was tearing up a bit. It was great to see them get to talk. I was so glad that she told Desmond that she knows about the Island and has been searching for it.I still don't trust her... Or her Daddy!!
Islandtracker 02-29-2008, 12:30 AM You know when they said last season was going to be the season of romance and all we got was dirty cage sex viewed by the creepy others on camera?
CORRECTION writers Desmond and Penny and Jack and Kate define Epic super couple romance and they did it without destroying the show's mythology and sci fi parts and not making it look like a soap opera.
literary_faery 02-29-2008, 12:31 AM Now, I have never been a Despenny shipper. But tonight's phone call was definitely a sweet, heartache-inducing moment! (Mostly because I was SO glad to get away from the quadrangle crap)
HIC deserves so many awards for his acting tonight, especially in this scene and the initial confusion. Absolutely mind-blowing.
Electromagnetic Anomoly 02-29-2008, 12:33 AM The closest I have been to crying over a TV show...
but my girlfriend?!... she cried her eyes out!!!
LockeLove 02-29-2008, 12:33 AM I loved it! I have been waiting for while for them to reconnect somehow, and they finally did!
Bella 02-29-2008, 12:34 AM I loved it! Except I was so worried about Des that I spent most of the scene holding my breath and hoping that he didn't drop dead before the call finished and he'd become completely grounded by Penny, his anchor.
emmadoggy 02-29-2008, 12:35 AM I LOVED the phone call scene! It was so beautifully done. Tears in my eyes too.
Henry Ian Cusick really rocked this episode. Love him!
shyguy 02-29-2008, 12:39 AM It was pretty good. That is how they need to do romance on the show. Not the triangle stuff.
lostgurl 02-29-2008, 12:40 AM I enjoyed it, although it surprises me because I'm not a big Penny fan.
LostLaura 02-29-2008, 12:40 AM I am so glad I'm not the only one who cried!!!
briar910 02-29-2008, 12:40 AM Brilliant scene! Now that's how a romance should be. Very moving and I haven't even been invested in the DesPenny ship.
kajah 02-29-2008, 12:44 AM I was bawling my eyes out.
And I never cry at movies/TV.
kittenkong80 02-29-2008, 12:44 AM Now all Penny has to do is find a way to connect the freighter to Charlie talking about Naomi and a boat.
One of the most romantic scenes ever.
BrothaJefe316 02-29-2008, 03:00 AM There's so much for us to analyze in this episode, that I don't think I've seen a thread yet on this very simple - and very *big* - aspect of the story we saw tonight in The Constant.
We just saw something *major* in he ongoing story of the show, in Des *finally* making contact with Penny. This is something that has been in the making since season 2, and I think they did a phenomenal job with that scene with Des and Pen on the phone... It was so moving. I am a *huge* Desmond fan, and I was *thrilled* to finally see this come to fruition and in a very well-done way. Kudos, TPTB!:)
...And that's not to mention the fact that Des made it through the episode alive, something I was legitimately concerned about at points tonight! So, in the end, I'm glad to see my brotha still alive and on the phone with his true love. And his connection with Penny is what saved him. Well done all around, and simply awesome. Period.
Clochard 02-29-2008, 03:01 AM I agree 100%
108%, actually!
Aversion 02-29-2008, 03:02 AM Yeah, that was a really great moment.
kokobware 02-29-2008, 03:08 AM Pretty amazing writing for these two characters. How much screen time have they really shared, or had individually for that matter? It's amazing to me that so many (myself included) viewers can already care this much about these two characters. I was getting chills during their exchange at the end of the episode. A real testament to the Lost writers.
Bella 02-29-2008, 03:11 AM Yeah, I was thrilled to see some sort of resolution -- or partial resolution, at least -- to that sad story. If anything, no matter what happens now, Des and Pen were able to say "I love you" again.
It was very, very sweet.
Dystrax 02-29-2008, 03:15 AM Indeed! I am definitely way more into the mythological/scientific side of Lost, but for someone who has watched every episode live from the beginning this was one of my favorite moments so far. All I could think about was Desmond entering that code and pushing that button for so long in isolation with nothing but that damn picture.
Well written, well edited, a fantastic scene. Bravo!
Anookanator 02-29-2008, 03:15 AM I am officially a Denny shipper!
I liked the couple prior to this ep, but that scene made me SOOOO sad and happy all at the same time.
Probably the only true love on this show.
:D
Meano Franko 02-29-2008, 03:16 AM This was great to see and this episode shines some light on the logic of Penny being around when Charlie clears the blocking signal. That always seemed a little far fetched. But if Desmond gave her this date he was going to call, Charlie's death only happened a few days ago (in the storyline). So good, so good.
Penny and Desmond are my favorite show couple.
Bella 02-29-2008, 03:42 AM This was great to see and this episode shines some light on the logic of Penny being around when Charlie clears the blocking signal. That always seemed a little far fetched. But if Desmond gave her this date he was going to call, Charlie's death only happened a few days ago (in the storyline). So good, so good.
Penny and Desmond are my favorite show couple.
On the official podcast (after Eggtown, IIRC), Darlton said that they always envisioned Penny as having an auto-dialer that was set to alert her when it finally made a connection.
Lost Lenny 02-29-2008, 01:07 PM Let me start by saying that the romance angles on this show are not normally what I am interested in. I am not a Jater or Skater, and couldn't care less what happens with that storyline. I am mostly interested in the mythology of the island.
That said, the final scene with Desmond FINALLY getting in touch with Penny brought a tear to my eye. That scene was so well acted...the editing of the scene (to Des...back to Penny...back to Des...and then the final simultaneous "I love you") was just fantastic.
Des is one of my favorite characters and I found myself really rooting for him as I have since we met him in the hatch. I was saying to myself.."pick up the phone Penny...pick it up!!!!"
Like I said, all of this surprises me since the romantic storylines are not usually my bag.
I personally think that this scene was the best in all of LOST. When writers, editors, and actors can emotionally move an audience in this way...it is truely GREAT television.
Kudos to all involved in this episode...easily one of the best (if not THE best) yet!
Feel free to post comments...agree or disagree...
caforrest2047 02-29-2008, 01:15 PM I was shocked as well by my excitement, of Desmond talking to Penny, I'm a Hate man myself, Hurley and Kate,a real Island romance. As for Desmond and Penny I think there was something amazing about the end of the conversation, haw it was jumping back and forth and then they said I love you at the same time, it just made me so happy, Go Desmond!!!!!!!
Eleri 02-29-2008, 01:22 PM I looked at m'hubby and said "Thousands of LOST fans all over the US just bawled into their hankies."
I was. ;)
chinadoll 02-29-2008, 01:28 PM I love Desmond as a character and his flashes have been so intriguing, but I had no idea how invested I was in his relationship with Penny. The writing of this episode's arc was fantastic---the slow build of urgency and suspense with some really great A-ha! moments. I can't believe how desperate I was for Penny to answer the dang phone LOL. Beautiful cuts between them... So satisfying.
And yet still more questions!
I love this show.
BlackIceBoy 02-29-2008, 01:29 PM The tension of the UK dial tone!! Will she/won't she pick up? Sheesh...
And then both characters got to say pretty much everything they would want to say to eachother . Nice tease with the interference.
Great ending. The best. Cor, wet eyes!
Honbun26 02-29-2008, 01:31 PM Completely agree, Lost Lenny! That scene actually made me cry! Desmond and Penny have become the true heart of the show. If TPTB don't have them come to gether and share the same air space before the end of the show it will be a cryin' shame.
Kudos to the actors, writers and editors. Actually, especially the editors. Many other shows would have shown a split screen, but I don't think that would have packed the same emotional punch as the jumping back and forth (which better showed the frantic nature of their talk).
Lost Lenny 02-29-2008, 01:33 PM Yah, I'm a little embarassed to admit it really...but I was so freakin' happy that he finally got to speak with her and tell her how he feels. VERY surprised that the writers got me...and got me good!
I love that you are a Hater...that's funny, I guess I'm a Hater too. Hurley and Desmond are my favorite characters so maybe that's why I got a little emotional...which also reminds me of the scene with Hurley at Libby's grave...that one got me a bit too.
The LOST writers have put me in touch with my feminine side!
Michelle67 02-29-2008, 01:34 PM The Des/Penny has been the best of all the romances on the show. The fact that they still love each other so much after such a long seperation - perfect. But somehow that scene scares me. Except for Jake/Sawyer/Kate every time a couple start moving closer I've started getting the feeling something bad's going to happen.
Sayid and Shannon. Hurley and Libby. Charlie and Claire. Maybe it's good Des and Penny are seperated by distance for now - it may be safer.
But I'd be lying if I said that when I saw that scene it didn't immediately cross my mind that Des would die next.
beachboy 02-29-2008, 02:05 PM 14,000 miles apart and yet that was the best "love" scene LOST has ever given fans of the show! That was fantastic television - the acting, directing and editing were absolutely spot on. The frantic pace, the desparation, the urgency and the simultaneous "I love you"s ....Skaters and Jaters could both learn something from last night's episode - that's what a relationship is all about. Great job and a BIG round of applause to the producers. This episode should be up for an award - and what a ground breaking episode it was. Time travel? Are you serious? Yes, they are and I'm right along for the ride! This show has suddenly exploded with possibilities and absolutely NO "jump the shark" moment in the process.
lockesmithe 02-29-2008, 02:27 PM The Desmond and Penny relationship is interesting to those who don't watch Lost for relationship action. First, the relationship is well-written, and it's adult in nature. The only other adult relationship on the island is that between oft-absent Rose and Bernard. Another reason Desmond and Penny are interesting is that the relationship advances the plot. Desmond's motivation to re-unite with Penny is strong, and Penny will stop at nothing to find Desmond. How Penny will figure into the plot from here on out will be interesting. Finally, with the nice material written for them, the actors do a great job of portraying this love affair.
Ms. Hawking told Desmond he would never be with Penny. We now have forces in motion that makes it seem like they have a chance of getting back together. What will happen to Desmond and Penny? I don't know, but I actually care.
lostlocke 02-29-2008, 04:14 PM I loved this scene and like many many others have been waiting for that moment!! I was getting teary eyed I must admit!! I was also clapping my hands by the end. Yes, I am obsessed.
Madge 02-29-2008, 04:25 PM In the words of Mugatu "Dear God, it's beautiful!"
That was such a fabulous scene! I was so happy he was finally able to talk to her and tell her how he felt. Sniff! Sigh!
Mrs. Hawking can stuff it, Des and Penny need to reunite! She's his lobster.
Lost_in_CA 02-29-2008, 08:18 PM Yeah! Let's hear it for the Denny shippers! This was a long time coming but so well worth the wait! Hubby and I were still smiling and talking about it this morning.
I wonder if many of us care about their relationship because it has more of the traditional star-crossed appeal rather than the Skate island romance that has such a here and now feel without much concern for the future. Des and Pen have a love that can go the distance. I don't think the same can be said for Kate and Sawyer - too much conning, lying and self-serving attitudes, not to mention their proclivities toward violence to solve their problems.
More Des and Penny please!
dhollmusik 02-29-2008, 09:15 PM Agree with all of the comments so far!
shootingstar 02-29-2008, 09:27 PM I agree that final scene between Des and Penny was just fantastic. I kept saying Penny darn it please pick up the phone. What can I say I definitely got teary eye.
Heroic Poser 02-29-2008, 09:40 PM After seeing that scene, I could care less who gets Kate.
Desmond and Penny NEED to be together. The Kate/Juliet/Jack/Sawyer thing needs to either go forward by leaps or die.
Sun and Jin, well, that's another story cause they're already married.
Wayne Jarvis 02-29-2008, 09:44 PM I agree. The Jack-Kate-Sawyer triangle should just hang it up. How can they compete with this?
Lost Lenny 02-29-2008, 09:55 PM The Mrs Hawkings comment intrigues me...are we sure she said they could never be together? (I'll have to watch that one again or wait until someone gives me some good info)
Is it possible that they COULD be together forever as long as it is on the island? I'm starting to think that Adam and Eve are Des and Penny. (Not to mention the black and white stones in their flat in FBYE)
Penny WOULD stay on the island if that was the only way they could be together...I'm convinced. This story was told beautifully last night...I've watched 3 times since last night and it just keeps getting better.
XxNicholeexX 02-29-2008, 09:58 PM That scene made me cry. I thought it was absolutely beautiful. My boyfriend said it gave him goosebumps.
MysteryFan 03-01-2008, 06:40 PM You know, so much attention has been given to the island romances: Kate only knew Jack & Sawyer a few days when they got their triangle-crushes going, and only a matter of weeks when Kate was kissing & sleeping with the guys. All three had soul mates in their previous lives. Claire wasn't in love to the degree that Charlie was, and now Charlie is gone. Hurley loved Libby, but now Libby is gone. For some reason (proximity?) Sayid loved Shannon, but his soul mate was supposedly Nadia (typed wrong name, Naomi, previously in the post).
The true love story is Desmond and Penny. They have been in love for a long time. She will keep looking for him - with all of her resources and power. He'll get back to her - never once straying from his love.
I love their story!! Their last scene together was pure magic.
yumbo 03-01-2008, 06:49 PM I agree, it was a GREAT scene!!
But here's a big question -- it looked like Penny was wearing a wedding ring! I know when she went to meet Des at the stadium, she said she was getting married. Now, I guess this means she is still married to someone else! What does this mean for the future, if they ever reunite in person? (Note: ring was on right hand, but I'm pretty sure that's where Brits wear their wedding rings. It was also in a major camera shot too, like we were supposed to notice it).
baylady 03-01-2008, 07:08 PM Wait, wait, wait... just a second. Sayid and Naomi? His soulmate? This wasn't the woman Sayid has been trying to get back to, is it? I don't even remember what that woman's name was.
Also, I don't think Brits wear their wedding rings differently from Americans, or most other cultures who bother with wedding rings. It has something to do with the left hand leading to the heart, or something like that, I think.
Ketch22 03-01-2008, 07:14 PM It was beautiful, especially at the end when they were talking at the same time. Did I miss it or did Penny explain at the end there what started her looking for Desmond 3 years ago? I know she said that when she talked to Charlie she knew she had been right and that he was alive. But what started her looking after 5 years of his being gone?
She started to look for him after he disappeared in the boating race. Check out "Live Together, Die Alone" for all of that. :)
That last scene was the most amazing single scene in Lost yet. So well acted, shot, and edited. Loved Sayid standing quietly in the background, patiently waiting. Of course, he could relate! I bawled during that scene. I also got teary-eyed during the scene where Des is begging Penny for her telephone number. Like Des, I felt so desperate and frantic through that whole episode. Bravo, Ian! You're the best thing goin' on Lost.
swtheart545 03-01-2008, 07:19 PM The single best scene of Lost. They're just such an epic love story and rarely ever see that on TV, it's amazing. I was pretty much bawling my eyes out during that scene and have the 10 million times i've watched it since. It was so worth the wait!
Lost_in_CA 03-01-2008, 07:23 PM I agree, it was a GREAT scene!!

When she met Desmond at the stadium it was 2001, before he leaves for the sailing race. She was supposed to be engaged at this time. The scene in this epi is 1996. So no, she's not married. As for the rings, I've never known any of my friends from across the pond to wear their wedding rings on their right hands. I think the left hand is fairly universal with some exceptions.

Well, Des was talking about proposing and living the rest of his life with Penny, but when he said 'she'll say yes and we'll spend the rest of our lives together' (paraphrasing now) and Hawking says "No Desmond, you won't", I did take it that Des probably wouldn't end up with Penny. I suppose she could have just meant the proposal and rest of their lives aspect and that it's still possible they could end up finding each other and being together. Sadly I don't think it'll happen as much as I would like it to. Right now I'm hoping Hawking is a liar.

The scene I"m talking about is Xmas eve 2004 when she answers the phone...that's when I noticed the ring.

Sorry - I meant Nadia, not Naomi.

Ah, sorry. :) Still, the rings are on the wrong hand, imo.
baylady 03-01-2008, 08:59 PM Sorry - I meant Nadia, not Naomi.
Ah, that's right. Thanks for clearing that up. I thought I had missed something! I didn't think this was Sayid's long lost love. Easy mistake, their names have a lot of similarity.
Lost Lenny 03-01-2008, 11:41 PM Yeah! Let's hear it for the Denny shippers! This was a long time coming but so well worth the wait! Hubby and I were still smiling and talking about it this morning.

For me it's just the fact that this poor SOB has had some terrible luck. All that he wanted to do was win the respect of her father (and his daughter's hand) and he ends up stuck on this island. (by himself for a good portion of that time)
I can't imagine how crazy I would be trying to get in touch with my wife if I was in that situation. For that reason, I really root for him. Dude just needs SOMETHING good to happen in his life. I hope his character finds happiness...I really do.

I am too. I'm hoping that while he may not ever MARRY Penny, they do get together and live the rest of their lives together. Des deserves something good to happen for once.
MysteryFan 03-02-2008, 02:29 AM The Mrs Hawkings comment intrigues me...are we sure she said they could never be together?

My feeling is that she was telling Desmond about his destiny to get to the island. If he married Penny, he would have stayed in England and we'd all be dead. Her predictions rang true to him, since he'd already been living in that future she described - so he broke Pen's heart (like she said) and eventually went on the race, etc (like she said). But that's all she said.
Her predictions didn't go any further. She didn't foresee the need for the failsafe key. She didn't know he'd be 'back' to talk with her again. Her purpose was just to get him to the island.
What is currently happening on the island has gone beyond Hawkings' predictions. And so, Penny can find Desmond now, and they can be together in the future. (I hope).
jsrockford 03-02-2008, 03:54 AM Too Blave! (True Love)...nothing's better except maybe a Mutton, Lettuce, and Tomato sandwich where the Mutton is real lean.
Meano Franko 03-02-2008, 05:27 AM My Tivo cut off the last 10 minutes of the episode. Did she answer the phone? What was their conversation like?
Kidding. That was the best emotional moment of the show.
Has anyone used the term "Pez" for their celebrity couple name.
If not, I'm claiming it.
Felix Felicis 03-02-2008, 06:12 AM Gosh, Sonya Walger's acting in that scene was beyond belief. Totally captured it perfectly.
Possibly one of the best Lost scenes so far - definitely the most moving.

(I hope).
That is a well thought out post and like you said...I hope so too! I think you might be right on this one.
After all, she said that pushing the button was the most important thing he would ever do...and since there's no button to push anymore, maybe he's done all he needs to do.
100%
My Tivo cut off the last 10 minutes of the episode. Did she answer the phone? What was their conversation like?
Kidding. That was the best emotional moment of the show.
Has anyone used the term "Pez" for their celebrity couple name.
If not, I'm claiming it.
Pez...funny!
Madge 03-02-2008, 10:46 AM My feeling is that she was telling Desmond about his destiny to get to the island. If he married Penny, he would have stayed in England and we'd all be dead. Her predictions rang true to him, since he'd already been living in that future she described - so he broke Pen's heart (like she said) and eventually went on the race, etc (like she said). But that's all she said.

She seemed to know Des' entire life story, I can only assume she would know about the failsafe key. She must have knew he turned it and was thrown back to the 90s. She was there to make sure he followed the same path back to the island so he could do it again. If things are 'supposed' to happen and you can't change the future, then I would argue that her stance on their never spending their lives together must end up happening. I don't think she was so much predicting but telling him "this is the way things are going to happen and the universe will see to it that it does indeed happen."
Even if he can't spend years with Penny, I do hope they get to see each other again before 'Des reads the book' and sadly I do think he will. I just hope it's not until the penultimate episode of the series at the earliest.
ostrich1 03-02-2008, 12:22 PM Desmond has been my favorite since he came aboard in S2, but I think he is even more amazing after this episode.
For someone to love another person so much, as Des does Penny, it is just so romantic and this epi, I thought, was just so powerful. Without getting too mushy, I can't really put into words how wonderful it is that after all this time, Des still loves Penny as much and even more than when he left for the race. And she has never forgotten or stopped loving him no matter what. This is such a testament to true love and this epi was so well written.
I just wanted to share my thoughts.
TheLostMember 03-02-2008, 12:32 PM Yeah I think he's one of the best characters on there, right after Hurley of course. how long was he on the island for? From what i remember i think he was about a week or so before the losties.

It sure is looking like Des/Penney are "The Constant". And since we now see that Des is Daniel's constant, it lend's more support to your thoughts.

3 years.
lostlocke 03-02-2008, 04:38 PM Yes 3 years is right. I also love the story of Des and Penny. It's a great lovestory that the writers have created, I was so happy when they finally got to talk after all those years apart. It was so sweet.
swtheart545 03-02-2008, 04:44 PM I totally agree. Rarely if ever do you see such a great love story portrayed on television, it's very refreshing. They writers did a brilliant job with this episode, especially the phone call scene. Desmond's definitely my favorite character on the show and I love how he's so rooted in the mythology as well as the romance.
LostLaura 03-02-2008, 04:56 PM One of the top scenes in Lost history. I had to pick up an avi for it. Just looking at them smiling and crying makes me so happy! There will be obstacles to their in-person reunion but I truly believe it will happen. They are the heart and soul of this show.

I checked the thread once I read that you changed your avi...VERY nicely done!
You make me proud to be an LL too!!!!!!!!!!
sanfrannan 03-02-2008, 10:00 PM I am a Sawyer/Kate fan, but I think this scene may have changed my mind. Desmond and Penny blew everyone else out of the water. Skate has had some nice moments but nothing like this! I've watched the episode twice now and have cried both times during that scene. TPTB do know how to write great romance after all.
workingmom 03-02-2008, 10:22 PM Amen!! I think even Sayid had a tear in his eye by the end of that call. ;) I thought it was one of the most touching scenes ever in the show. :hearts: Yes, I bet Sayid felt a twinge for Nadia and wondered if he'd ever have a similar conversation with her.
I teared up also on the second and third viewing - Jeez!
I love how they are staying true to the classical Penelope, who waited over 20 years for Odysseus to return. I bet they'd have had a conversation like this in The Odyssey if they had cell phones back then. ("I've been stuck on a freakin' island...I don't know where I am but I'm on someone's boat, I hope to get back to you soon, love....[fade to static]")

Thanks! I didn't make it. But I am proud of finding the perfect one.

Yes, Penny is true to her namesake. And you know, Sayid did have a very interesting look on his face during and after the phone call. You know, I think he might have been thinking of Nadia. (Or maybe even Shannon....). I hadn't thought of that and will next time I watch the episode (or just that scene, lol).

Yep, Sayid had a very thoughtful look on his face, a faraway look in his eyes, and his body language said it all, too. I hope he gets his reunion like Des. :frown:
melovepens 03-04-2008, 06:26 PM I think the part that did it for me was not when they both said "I love you"...but when Desmond said "I've always loved you". It just got me thinking of how rough his life has been and he was able to let her know that she always meant the world to him. Excellent scene there.

... "I love you, Pen; I'll sacrifice 1,000 bulls to Zeus in your honor; I promise."

I thought he was thinking of Shannon as well. We saw Sayid's more nobler side of him when he was with Shannon IMO.
