View Full Version : "Brandon" has the key!
MPmom 02-28-2008, 11:26 PM Remember Danielle's distress signal? She rambled off something about "Brennan/Brandon has the key." There was discussion back then over what name she actually said, and speculation over who he was.
Tonight, Minkowski mentioned how he and his friend Brandon got bored and ventured over towards the island.
Could this be the same guy as Danielle's Brennan/Brandon?
czardingus 02-28-2008, 11:28 PM How much you want to bet that Minkowsky's Brandon in a body bag is Rousseau's Brandon from the radio tower broadcast. We'll have to watch for Minkowsky to mention Montand losing his arm or Rousseau recognizing Minkowsky's name. With all the time-shift possibilities that have been opened up, a link from Rousseau to the freighties isn't so implausible...
Eight 02-28-2008, 11:30 PM I thought Minkowski died.

Good catch, czard!! I knew I had heard the name Brandon and that's where I had heard it on the Lost Season 1 DVD! I don't think it's implausible at all.
lostgurl 02-28-2008, 11:32 PM Wow!.. but how would that have worked? He was on the freighter and also on Danielle's team?
imaaronsmom 02-28-2008, 11:33 PM Was this Brandon the friend that Ben had on the ship?
LostLaura 02-28-2008, 11:35 PM I BELIEVE it's "Brennan has the keys" NOT "Brandon"
I can't check transcripts right now with how slow servers are going on a show night, etc. Sam G will know.

It was Brennan. There is the question though of how long the Freighter has been trawling those waters.
mrain01 02-28-2008, 11:39 PM Wow, Zowie and Bingo!
No question that Minkowski's bud, Brandon, was the same that Danielle refered to.
This would mean that Brandon was part of Danielle's "team". Either he never made it to the island or he somehow escaped. Then he was recruited on the freighter and wanted to get to the island with Minkowski - and began experiencing the time duality before dying.
Guinevere 02-28-2008, 11:44 PM This is already being discussed here with almost the same thread title Brandon has the keys (http://www.thefuselage.com/Threaded/showthread.php?t=90370)
Andok 02-28-2008, 11:49 PM 16 years on island is only 81 days off island using the 20 minutes to 24 hour ratio.
The Freighter is the scientists boat Danielle arrived on. Wow. just my opinion of course LOL. .

If the Freighter is Danielle's boat, I will have a mind melt-down that I will never recover from.

Not sure about that, but I'm inclined to believe that Danielle has a connection to the Freighter and "management."
MPmom 02-29-2008, 12:05 AM czardingus, it looks like we had the same idea at about the same time.
I realize it says Brennan on the transcript, and Lostpedia. But transcripts can be wrong sometimes. Since this person was never listed in the credits, we don't have the official name from the writers. Or do we? It sounded like Brennan to the transcriber. It sounded like Brandon to me. Throw in a French accent, and who knows?
mrain01 02-29-2008, 12:05 AM It was Brennan. There is the question though of how long the Freighter has been trawling those waters.
That was an audio translation. Who's to say it was Brennan, and not Brandon?
LostLaura 02-29-2008, 12:07 AM I'm not saying the transcript can't be wrong, but at the time, MANY people translated. It's not just like some random Lostpedia person. I mean, I will gladly (not now) break out my S1 DVDs and find that EE again and listen to it and hear if it sounds like "Brennan" or "Brandon" but the general consensus at the time was that it was Brennan.
Punky 02-29-2008, 12:26 AM Closed caption said "Brennan" in Danielle's message. I guess the closed-captioning can be wrong - but I'm pretty sure the script is used for that.
I've long thought that Danielle's Brennan is somehow tied to Kate's childhood friend, Tom Brennan.
czardingus 02-29-2008, 12:28 AM ...I may be wrong, but I think the original consensus on the 'lage was that it sounded like "Brandon". Then in Born to Run we met Tom Brennan, Kate's old flame, and the whole transmission issue was revived; the new consensus was that Rousseau said Brennan. I remember posting a theory linking Tom Brennan's Dad to Rousseau's team and the toy plane being "Brennan's key"...and there were many replies on the thread stating "Rousseau said Brandon..."!

Well that's fair enough. I wouldn't be surprised really if the transmission actually was "Brandon."
I do remember the toy plane being the key theory. Oh, man.
Punky 02-29-2008, 12:34 AM I went to check the closed captioning on my S1 DVDs & realized - I lent them out! Go figure! :undecide:

I don't know why, but I seem to remember a Darlton podcast discussing Brandon. Maybe if there are podcast transscripts it could confirm the pronouciation.
Names are rarely dropped for no reason. If Minkowski has a friend Brandon, what other reason are we to know his name? There may be one, but it is not occurring to me.
MPmom 02-29-2008, 12:47 AM Well, since Kate's Tom Brennen is DEAD, and Minkowski's Brandon was at least near the island, it seems worth considering.
The transmission went out 16 years prior to 2004. That would have been 1 year before Kate & Tom buried the time capsule. Kate was 12 at the time of that scene. Tom was 12 or 13. I can't imagine how this kid could be connected to a team of French scientists.

I think the time warp only happens as you travel to and from the island. That's why it is Dec 24 both places, it just takes 1.5 days to travel from it, when it should be 20 mins.

Might want to check out of the podcasts are transcribed on lostpedia. I can't cause I have to go to bed right now. Oy.
I agree that names are never dropped for no reason on this show BUT they love to repeat names and have similar sounding names. So I leave open the possibility that this Brandon is just a repeat of a favorite sound/name that TPTB like to keep bringing up. And of those, Tom Brennan, has a majorly repeating first name too! Oy.
eyris 02-29-2008, 01:14 AM Here (http://www.dailyscript.com/scripts/100_pilot_final.pdf) is a link to one of the original script versions of the Pilot episode, and the text says "Brennan." (pg 92)

Well, THAT is official. Its Brennan then.
But, to confuse matters even further,
Brandon:English From the beacon hill or broom hill; sometimes used as a variant for Brennan.
The French have names like Jean for John, Jacques for Jack, Marguerite for Margaret, Marie for Mary...you get the idea. Brandon, Brennan, po-tay-toes, po-tah-toes.....
It was a small point in a huge episode with a lot of other bigger things to focus on. I guess we will see eventually if they were the same person, if it mattered.
Thanks for the official clarification eyris! And for searching through 90 something pages for the answer!
gusthepolarbear 02-29-2008, 03:08 AM moreover Gregg Nations has posted in such a way to say that it was Brennan, link may be brought when it is available

Yes, Tom Brennan is dead - and would have been too young. Didn't imply that. Tom may have a relative ( father, uncle) who could have been the Brennan on Danielle's boat.
LostLaura 03-02-2008, 11:46 PM eyris, THANK YOU SO MUCH for that link!
Sam G 03-05-2008, 05:36 PM Hum....since this time shifting has now entered the story, the iterations, a constant? Reminding someone constantly of something they did in the past that would be relevant in the future? Like Daniel reminding himself, through his journal Desmond Hume will be my constant. Written in the past to be recalled in the future.
