Desmond - "I've always loved you."

I know, I'm a sentimental fool. But I've been waiting for Des and Penny to make contact for a long time.

Not exactly one line per se, but to me the best dialogue was Des's explanation for why he needed Penny's phone number now - "I'm going to call you, but it won't be for 8 years, Dec 24, 2004"

-- she has just such a great reaction to that, and it perfectly summed up their relationship = I know it's a leap of faith, but you just have to trust me, I will call and I do love you, but you have to wait for me. Odysseus and Penelope, anyone? ;)

I was just on a ferris wheel.

But when Des said to Penny "OMG, is it really you?" I lost it completely.

OMG, me too! I was crying like a fool by the end of their conversation.

Otherwise, lots of good lines reviewed in this thread.

It's really no news to me that I have no romantic bone in my body, but I thought that was cheesy as hell. In an endearing way, but still cheesy.

You know what this episode missed in terms of great lines? It missed Ben. Oh, how I love his snark.

My favorite line was the line that wasn't uttered:

"Previously on Lost"

When they don't do that I know the epi means business. Let's jump right on into this bad boy! :)

I loved the lines between Des and Penny.

I also like when Sayid said "give me a minute" and I can't remember the exact line but when he said that "someone was going to have to explain what is going on."

When Desmond said to Daniel "what about your head?"

Arriving in the destroyed mess that was the freighter's communication center, Desmond asks Sayid if he can fix it.

Best Line from Sayid "Give me a minute."

Your right, I LMAO when he said that. I think Des actually meant all of it.. but of course Sayid just fixed the phone that was handy.

Faraday to Jack: "Your perception of how long your friends have been gone.... it's not necessarily how long they've actually been gone."

It's a huge clue!!!

As is Sayid's line: "Then share how we took off at dusk and landed in the middle of the day!"

"You're not gonna stick me with that, Brother!"

I don't why, but the face Desmond made when he said this, plus his wild hair and always-awesome accent cracked me up and I burst out laughing.

I loved that, too! Those crazy scared eyes of his, bulging white. :D *huggles scared Des*

I totally agree, on both counts! I thought the conversation was cheesy!

Also I missed Saywer's sarcasm!

Ok, I'll give you a little bit of the "cheesy" ;) but to me it just fit perfectly for their relationship. I felt it couldn't have been pulled off without the perfect combination of great acting, editing, directing, and chemistry between the characters -- it wouldn't have worked so well if it was any other couple on the show. But they're our resident "star-crossed" lovers, so "super schmaltzy" just kind of works.

And can I say what a welcome change it was to hear two people just plainly love each other and say it -- no strings attached ;)

Yeah, that kind of reminded me of The Pirates of Penzance, when Fredric and Mabel swore to each other to remain faithful to each other and wait the 63 years until they can get married. (once Frederick is 21, as counted by birthdays, since he was born on Feb 29th).

I swear that TPTB used an old Philosophy professor of mine as the model for how Daniel should act - they are twins! That dude was soooooooo out there. But a cool dude nonetheless.....

(I think I have a crush on the uber-geeky Daniel now. He certainly threatens Sayid's top spot in the Cutie-with-a-brain hierarchy...)

Definitely "it was enough" from Desmond. I bawled like a baby when he spoke to Penny, and Sayid's apology followed by Desmond's assertions that "it was enough" killed me dead on the floor.:dead:

Yeah, I meant to mention that one -- "well.. at least it was a BLOODY MILIT'RY DREAM! RIGHT! ALL OF YA -- IN THE YARD, 4 MINUTES!"

I also liked how the sergeant was always interjecting the word "right!". This is very common (and funny to me -- it reminds me of Monty Python or something) for British officers (and sergeants too presumably) when issuing commands, according to every British military book I've ever read. It's nice to see them getting international details right. However, I was suspicious about the American term "crunches" for the exercise they were doing... most such have different names over the pond. I don't know that that one was necessarily wrong though.

The whole initial encounter between Dan and Des at Oxford was an instant classic of best lines.
