View Full Version : So...WOW!!
Donatien 02-29-2008, 01:09 AM So, this ep. was great!
I am so glad we now know that the island is not in the North Pole or in the center of the earth. I am also glad to see that it is still 2004. Not to mention the fact that Des and Penny got to talk. Just amazing. Plus, I've been wary of the whole time travel thing in this show but they handled it with a lot of finesse and it was really cool.

Well, we really don't know that much for sure. But this was definitely my favorite episode of the show ever.:)

Do we know this for sure?? They could have gone through a wormhole in the thunderhead, no? ;)
rebelscum 02-29-2008, 01:26 AM Do we know for sure the world is 2004?
what year would it be if the helicopter had set out on a bearing of 325,instead of 305?
Jealous_Guy 02-29-2008, 01:27 AM It looked almost to me like they set the bearing to 305, and as the turbulence hit, they got knocked over to 325 while it was happening.
Donatien 02-29-2008, 01:50 AM Either way, Penny was waiting at home on Christmas Eve 2004 for Des to call. So it's 2004 for her. It's either 2004 for the crew on the freighter or they are crazy lazy about switching the calendar.
MRLeff78 02-29-2008, 02:44 AM Wow is right. This is such a significant episode. I watched and posted live on the east coast thread. It was amazing. Highly recommend the experience. Has any other TV show delved so deftly and deeply into metaphysics and the ultimate nature of reality? I think not. I cried when Pen answered the phone. Had chills for that whole scene. What a payoff. I saw that many people HATE time travel, but there we are. TPTB have commited and given us a major payoff. This is why we stuck around for almost four years. We have been rewarded, even if some of the love triangle soap opera fans are too small minded to realize it. And thank God they're not at the North Pole or in a snow globe. Someone tripped heavily in college and became a writer. I'm guessing Daniel was no stranger to experimenting with altered states of consiousnesss.
I could go on and on, but WOW sums it up pretty damn well.

One of my favorite parts was how they explained the time traveling and I hated the idea of time travel last season. I agree, wholeheartedly, with you on the scene where Penny and Des finally spoke to each other. So well done. Acting, writing, direction and editing all coming together in a way that is rarely seen on television. I also agree with the whole North Pole/Hollow Earth thing, thank goodness that doesn't seem to be the case.
phorkster 02-29-2008, 04:05 AM If the helicopter would have went out at 325, they would have got to the freighter on time, in the approx 20mins or so everyone expected. But since they used 305, they were off by a day and a half. Time is irrelevant, the island and the frieghter are in the same time, its the time shift in the snow globes wall thats what matters.
bjilly 02-29-2008, 05:02 AM I think this has been mentioned elsewhere, but what Des is doing is not time traveling. He is just sort of shifting consciousness or moving along his internal timeline or however you want to put it. When he is on the boat and he flashes back to being in the army, his body stays put in the present just as when he passes out in the past only his mind or consciousness or what have you goes forward. This is an important distinction for me because it keeps the LOST universe grounded in reality at least somewhat. I can wrap my arms around shifting consciousness more easily than people disappearing in real time and reappearing in the past.
