View Full Version : Is the island an integral part of Dans's time travelling device?

Seems to me,like anybody with that device could travel into their own future, with no help from the powers of the island.

OK he got the exact frequency and setting from Desmond, but he would have stumbled across them anyway.

No! Time travel won't take you to the island.

so Faraday invented time travel completely independently of the island?

I'm confused,is the island a naturally occuring version of Dans gizmo?

I'm confused,is the island a naturally occuring version of Dans gizmo?Or the island hosts or hosted a rather large-scale gizmo. Run by DHARMA? Installed on the island because of its unique electromagnetic qualities?

it seems so

i'm just rambling here, but i think the island itself is going to be a universal constant, stopping the world from tearing itself apart.Haven't quite worked it out yet,but something along those lines.

Maybe a bigger company, like Dharma, got wind of Daniels little invention and took it at some point or found his design in order to replicate it in a larger scale on the island. Perhaps that is why Daniels is crying in the flashback where he sees the plane wreckage, he knows that his invention is what brought it down. (I know most people are speculating that it's because he was jumping around in time.)
Although I have no idea how well this idea would play into the time line of events that we've been given. My brain is way to fried tonight to actually research if that would work or not.

edit: Sorry lockesmith, I said basically the same thing you did, but you hit the submit button before me.

Well Daniel said somethign to the effect that people who had been exposed to radiation or electromagnetism could be particularly sensitive to this time travel effect, right? And if the island is constantly emitting and surrounded by a super-powerful electromagnetic field, then it could be the perfect natural laboratory for experimenting with time travel. The Swan hatch was in place to regulate the magnetic field in order to create a stable laboratory environment.
