View Full Version : The Constant VS Via Domus

Here's my very first NEW lost theory that I have come up with on my very own and I think it's pretty concrete. I don't think it can be disputed...

The creators of Lost: Via Domus knew at some point during or finishing the game that they did not have a very good product on their hands. So, with time and money invested, how could they sell this thing to fans AND not lose any fans in doing so.

1.) Release the game during a season. People's interest in buying related products are always up when they are excited about the show again.
2.) Delay the usual Tuesday launch date for video games by one day, pushing back to Wednesday, one day between game and episode.
3.) Release it one day before the greatest Lost episode of all time. The Constant.

Now seriously, after playing and beating the game all of last night I was left with a few thoughts and feelings. I felt so used as a fan that I paid $60 to essentially watch 7 mediocre episodes of Lost centered on a character I had nothing invested with. An entire season DVD set retails for $50. The DVD's are the meat and potatos of what we love, the game is just a side dish and it's more expensive. I was so upset at what was given to us in Via Domus that I questioned my life, that I could buy into something so surely and so blindly. After it was finished I felt as though I didn't like Lost as much anymore. It was a very sad and angry day today. I knew I needed a good episode tonight to help clense me of this filth.

Enter "The Constant." Tonight's episode is clearly one of the best episodes of the entire show. So well written and acted. And we got to see....
1) Time jumping
2) Desmond's military service
3) The Freighter
4) Mr Widmore
5) Black Rock artifact
6) We heard Hanso's name!
7) Penny & Desmond phone reunion (I got all teary eyed)
and the greatest thing of all.......
We now know that time ON and OFF the island moves at the same speed.
That puts that arguement to bed.

Well played Lost. I will continue to be a faithful fan.
I just won't be buying any of your games again until they are in the $10 bin.
Thank you.

If you purchased Via Domus thinking it would be a videogame, you are either very young or know very little about the videogame industry.

The vast majority of movie/TV licensed games are cash-ins. Large companies like EA/Ubisoft/Activision often pay more money to acquire the name brand behind the game than they pay to actually develop a quality product.

It's an unfortunate reality, but the gaming industry has really become big business.

Isn't there a thread for the game?!
Cant seem to find it but I'm pretty

I'm 28 and an experienced gamer. My love for Lost won out on logic and I ran to the store with smiles and a skip in my step. I forgot how bad the X Files game was.

Never again! :)

So besides the release date, how does the game relate to this episode?!

I agree that this thread is in the wrong location, but

time ON and OFF the island moves at the same speed.

Does it? Dan says something to the effect of "your perception of how long your friends have been gone ... isn't really how long they've been gone". The helicopter ride, took roughly 20 minutes - and yet a significant amount of time had passed from the Losties (aka the Island's) timeline.

Totally off topic but still related. I've decided to get Burnout Paradise instead of Lost the game. Seems to me like I made a good choice;)

Ah, I believe you just perfectly summarized my justification to avoid purchasing any and all video games developed around other mediums of entertainment I respect.

Sorry if I upset anyone by posting this thread. I was just stating the fact that the Constant was the best episode ever and I needed it to be after the letdown of the game.

I'll try not to mention anything outside of what exactly happened in the show.
Can I bring up past shows on here? Geesh!

Now that I think about it, what we learn in the Constant might explain the ending of Via Domus, which before tonight made absolutely no sense. There you go. A direct tie-in.

End of the game spoilers:
At the end of Via Domus, the main character 'flashes' back to the first day of the crash and finds his 'constant' in that chick? right? Cause it originally seemed to hint at a time loop...

Pinjo, (or anyone else)

is there a thread where we can discuss the ending to the game? Perhaps we should get the ball rolling on that because I think it is an amazing ending (the rest of the game sucked). You can youtube the game and watch someone play all seven episodes, it will save your money.
