So now that we know the Tempest has the ability to emit gas over the entire island, does this validate all those theories about the air vents underneath the ground which Smokey could travel through? I think there could be a connection here.

Didn't think of that, so the gas isn't necessarily poison, instead it pretty much scares you to death. Interesting...

Wow, good way of looking at it! I hadn't thought of it that way; ya never know! :)

And further, could this be how Harper communicates with Ben? I'm not necessarily saying that Harper was Smokey, but maybe the vent could be big enough for people to travel in as well...

I was slightly surprised there weren't 'others' working at The Tempest station still.

Maybe Smokey is made up of the Gas. Maybe that timer was counting down to an appearance of Smokey and Daniel just turned it off.

If we could figure out where the Tempest was (maybe we can, via Faraday's map), maybe we can place it on the blast door map and see if corresponds with all the Cerberus notations, vents, etc.

Great point lucky4me8! Oh magical fans who are so much better with technology than I could ever be, could we get a screenshot?

(by the way- I'm just so excited to be on the 'Lage tonight! I don't know what it is- I just can't stop posting! I love this community we have here! Thought I should tell you all...)

Here's (http://bp2.blogger.com/_Hxnvg45zlCw/R9Cx0tCKxAI/AAAAAAAAAPg/7mmgPDv57QI/s1600-h/pict+2008-03-06+09-06-269.jpg) one someone posted, but I can't read all of the notations. It looks like the station is shown to the right of his thumb? And that "C" in a circle at the bottom is interesting (C for Cerberus).

I think the whole idea is alright, but why would Ben be given a gas mask by Richard, and the freighties all had them, and Juliet seemed to know how to stop it with the sonar thing...

I think the C could be for "Cabins. There is also a "4" and "8" on the map...more numbers

The deadly gas was real. Faraday was obviously quite scared, even with the mask on.

If smokey does travel via the vents I'm sure it was an unintentional side effect, as smokey travels fast already. I'm sure that Smokey and the Tempest are seperate and unaffected by each other.

If there are vents (or tunnels, whatever) it could be Ben's way of moving through the island without being seen.
Two (perhaps) pieces of evidence that I can see are:

In Eggtown when Locke Brought Ben the Eggs he said he wasn't hungry (had he gotten out and ate with his people?)

When Locke visited Ben this week and Ben said 'well if my people really wanted me back they would have stormed this place' maybe Ben's in contact with his people, telling them not to do anything yet, in other words, they know where he is ... and Juliet did say Ben's right where he wants to be.

This may also be the way Ben communicated with Harper ... and the vents could be the way Harper moved around so quickly (like a trapdoor in a magic trick)

Anyway JMHO

Hm, a very intriguing thought! Previously, when somebody would pop up like Harper did with Juliette, it always seemed like that person was a "ghost" or some kind of apparition, not real. Harper seemed very real, though, and not only that, someone else was able to see her too! I wonder if that means more than jack could have seen his dad, kate's horse, shannon's walt, etc? It's just that no one else happened to be around...

Great points! I definitely think that there must be some kind of underground ventilation tunnel system... it's just all making so much sense with that.
