First thing that came to my mind with that first name was Harper Lee's To Kill a Mockingbird.
Harper herself could've represented the mockingbird...rather smokie mocking Harper...

Hmm... maybe a connection. Jacob is kind of like Boo Radley!
One thing about Harper Lee which may or may not be significant: Her first name was actually Nelle which was Ellen spelled backwards.

I was trying to think of why "Harper." We've already had the To Kill a Mockingbird Reference from early in S3.

Nelle is her Grandmother's name spelled backwards.
Useless trivia: When Harper Lee was a little girl, she was friends with a neighbor who would grow up to become Truman Capote. In To Kill a Mockingbird, Truman goes by the name Charles Baker "Dill" Harris.
