View Full Version : Twilight Zone
imfromthepast 03-07-2008, 12:07 AM Remember that episode of the Twilight Zone with Billy Mummy as the kid in that town everyone was afraid of because he had powers and could do anything?
Kind of reminds me of Ben. He acted like a petulent child king tonight.
Got a definete Billy Mummy vibe tonight...
deeannek 03-07-2008, 12:12 AM I agree. Ben is very much a petulant child when he doesn't get what he wants. This is probably what the Billy Mummy character would have grown up to be if Rod Serling would have ever revisited the story.
my_name_is_keysersoze 03-07-2008, 12:17 AM That's a great analogy! I was trying to place where I had seen that behavior before.
Michelle Friday 03-07-2008, 12:17 AM Yep, totally!

Rod didn't but there was a sequel to that episode.

Awesome! I totally agree with you. I actually always had made the connection between Ben's mysteriously implied abilities and Steven King's (Richard Bachman)book, The Regulators. Similar idea I think... a child's unbridled imagination coupled with ultimate power equals misery and terror for those around him.
deeannek 03-07-2008, 02:16 AM Rod didn't but there was a sequel to that episode. Is that the one with the little girl that was in real life Billy Mummy's daughter? I am kind of fuzzy on the details but I think I did see that.
lockesmithe 03-07-2008, 02:33 AM An interesting comparison. Was there a sequel to that episode, or was it a remake?
deeannek 03-07-2008, 10:46 AM I found this in the Wiki, "It's a Good Life". Bill Mumy returned to play the adult version of Anthony, the demonic child he had played in the original story, with Mumy's daughter, Liliana, appearing as Anthony's daughter, a more benevolent but even more powerful child. Cloris Leachman also returned as Anthony's mother. Mumy went on to serve as screenwriter for other episodes in the revival.
I know I saw this but I just can't remember it at all.
Lost Ed 03-07-2008, 12:02 PM He sent them to the cornfield....never to return. So behave like he wants you to behave.
BuffyMars 03-07-2008, 12:04 PM "Oh wow Billy, you killed her good! That was real good, Billy. Real good" lol I love that episode. Ben was acting like that kid.
Madge 03-07-2008, 12:08 PM That was such a great episode! Send 'em to the cornfield!
Ben needs to be sent to the cornfield. "You're mine!". Huh, I don't think so little man. I was waiting for her to snap. He traps her on this island under false circumstances, stalks her and then kills her boyfriend and brings her over to see the corpse. That's a paddlin'!
Kimosquabbie 03-08-2008, 07:17 PM Funny you should bring up Bill Mumy... On Babylon 5, he played Lennier, the assistant to Minbari ambassador Delenn who was also secretly in love with her. Delenn was played by the same actress who plays our favorite crazy French chick, Mira Furlan.
chinadoll 03-08-2008, 07:31 PM Well, and what about Walt and his "powers"? We don't really know much about those. And was it one of the Missing Pieces that had a kid, maybe Walt, being held, oh crap, where was that? Anyway the birds were all killed outside his room?
(I just re-read that---I hope someone knows what I'm talking about... :D )

Got a definete Billy Mummy vibe tonight... It sure was. Harper seemed to understand that - Goodwin didn't, to his peril
Bill Mumy of course went on to be in Lost in Space - "Danger Will Robinson! Danger Will Robinson!"

Seriously. Ben's picture is found in the dictionary under "petulant."
ME noted Ben's childish behavior in the video podcast, and it got me thinking about how complex and layered the character really is.

"your a bad man, your a very bad man" lol
TTZ series was one of the best fantasy/sci-fi programs ever made imo.
I have seen that episode like 10 times.. didnt the boy make all other towns and cities around his home town dissapear?? or something like that anyway?
But yea, Ben had that same feel in this episode.
Good catch.

simone5p 03-12-2008, 01:45 PM Ben does act like a child dictator who can dole out death and get people to perform for him by using fear as a motive.
That Twilight Zone episode always creeped me out. If I had been his family, I would have at least tried to bash his head in before I was banished or vanished.
lostlocke 03-12-2008, 04:41 PM I remember this episode very well. I always watch the twilight zone marathon every new year's!! I think I see that episode every year. The kid was very creepy. I think that kid always played creepy parts, I remember seeing him on something else. Anyway Ben does act very childish when he doesn't get what he wants. Maybe because he is so used to getting exactly what he wants. When he doesn't he becomes dangerous.

Nice ; )
So he did make the world disappear.
Too much power I think lol.
"Do I get one?"
heppamies 03-13-2008, 08:45 AM I remember an episode from Happy Days where Fonzie banged up the wall and lights turned off. Reminded me of Jin fishing, they are both so cool.

Wasn't that, like, EVERY episode of Happy Days? The Fonz was always banging stuff to make it turn on and off. Whoa. Maybe if Ben brought the Fonz in to bang some of the ladies, they might not die during pregnancy.
singingpretty 03-14-2008, 02:16 PM Gee, I hadn't thought about the Billy Mumy similarities, I went to school with him back when he did that Twilight Zone and he wasn't exactly a friendly kid so I think I avoided watching him on TV...lol....but anyway, now that I think of him, I wonder if Ben looks a bit like a grown up Billy Mumy on purpose :)
Too bad they couldn't have had real lookalike to play Ben as a boy. That would have REALLY been creepy.
Every episode reveals how much more there is to Ben ~ there is still wayyyyyy more to him than we know.....don'tcha think?
