View Full Version : Where IS Harper now?
Sawyers Mojito 03-07-2008, 12:41 AM OK so don't you think we would have seen her, up tothis point?
I mean what happened to her? is she just living her merry life with the others?
It just seemed weird how she just was dropped after she told Juliet t stay away from Goodwin for Goodwin's sake.
Electromagnetic Anomoly 03-07-2008, 12:48 AM Also..
If she is alive, does she know what happened to Goodwin?!
I tend to think not. Or at least she doesn't think Ben had anything
to do with his death. She seems to be willing to still do work for Ben
by delivering a message to Juliette. Which implies to me that she may
even think Goodwin is still on his mission. Why would Juliette tell
her that Ben took her to see his body. It may lead to more questions,
possibly putting the blame on her (Juliette) for her husbands death.
rabidranger 03-07-2008, 12:50 AM The fact Jack saw/conversed with her is the "x" factor, but I think we're supposed to believe she's a manifestation of Cerberus. I'll be interested if Darlton addresses this issue in their next pod cast.
seebee 03-07-2008, 02:46 PM I think Harper is either dead or alive and not on the Island. Someone did the old Walt projection thing. Maybe Ben did it.
LostMyMarbles 03-07-2008, 02:57 PM Yes, I think Harper is not a living person. If she were alive, she could have taken a gun to the Tempest and gunned down Faraday and Charlotte herself. She needed someone to act in the "material world."
Maybe Harper was the one who appeared to Juliet because Juliet "owes" her and thus would be less likely to disregard her order.
We haven't seen any clear instances of Smokey in human form being seen by more than one person at a time (unless Wet!Walt was Smokey), but if the horse and the cat were Smokey, they were both seen by multiple people.
JPolarBear 03-07-2008, 03:00 PM She's dead i tells ya, dead, dead, dead! she said "long time no see' to Juliet. Juliet's been away with the Losties for about 2 weeks now? Harper should be with the Others at the Temple O' Toes. I'll bet that Juliet killed Harper in another 'cat-fight'.
The whole point was to show us that Benry was able to conjure her up, showing he has much greater power than we have ever seen before. Do not think she is 'smokie'/cerebrus....that would mean Benry is, or has the power to control, Smokie.
Makes us wonder if 'Drippy Walt', Dead Yemmi, and Dr.Dead Drunk, was all the same thing?
p.s. I figured it out. the actress who is Harper plays Janet Gavin, the ex-wife in "Rescue Me". OK, it bugged me the entire episode. Without the blond hair and black lace lingerie, i didn't remember.
dmccarthy 03-07-2008, 04:12 PM Juliet said to Jack something along these lines: "Ben told me to kill Faraday and Charlotte ... he knew how to 'get to me' [using Harper]". Ben told her? At first I thought maybe Juliet, who didn't seem all that surprised by Harper's sudden 'now u see me now u don't' act, knows more then she's letting on about Ben's ability to 'communicate', but then why would she ask Harper how she talked to him if he's held prisoner?
Harper's response to this question was interesting: "Ben is exactly where he wants to be". Literally? As in locked in the basement of his house? Or somewhere where he can project himself as anything he wants? or both?
Or did she mean he's in the heart of another society of people he can manipulate (Locke's crew) to carry out his long, thought out intentions.
dufusbot 03-07-2008, 04:16 PM Harper is a VR hallucination conjured up by old bug eyes, it seems to me it all points to that (just posted on this very issue actually ...)
Dublin Dilettante 03-07-2008, 04:22 PM I think Juliet believes Harper to be alive. In a future episode (the what-happened-to-the-Others ep, assuming there is one) we'll find out she was dead by the time she appeared to Juliet, and that will be the kicker.
Jack Sawyer 03-07-2008, 04:25 PM Yeah, I cant say I ever got the impression she's real, and alive. I'm surprised to see Lostpedia reporting the same, then again, it's Lostpedia.
Strikes me as an apparition, me it Smokey or not. I found Jack's line of questioning afterwards to be interesting too.
"Seemed kinda hostile, even for a therapist." This came across to me like Jack didn't think the chick in the jungle was all that natural. That things weren't as they appeared. I'd like to think Jack acknowledges that they were indeed seeing something...not a stray Other relaying messages through the jungle.
hugh_person 03-07-2008, 05:52 PM Thanks for the thread! I thought that this was a really key scene and was curious why there hasn't been more talk about it. It reminded me of a time before book clubs and cheeseburgers when the Others were creepy unknowns.
That Harper was preceded by whispers and disappeared without a trace brought back one of the main 'supernatural' things about the others that was never explained... how did they never leave tracks?
BuffyMars 03-07-2008, 06:06 PM I think she's dead.
JoZay 03-07-2008, 06:16 PM She's dead & she disappeared quickly back into the other realm where the Whisperers live.
