Was the memory test in preparation to finding the Tempest Hatch?!
How about remembering what to plug in the computer?! (numbers or code)...

The commands typed into the computer were pretty basic, vent controls and Telnet communications. I don't think there was anything terribly difficult about shutting down the Tempest it was just a matter of trying enough. The trouble seemed to be averted by opening vent BC22. Pretty simple stuff.

The way that I saw it, after watching the "enhanced" version of the Constant, was that if Des really is Dan's constant, then all he needs to do is make contact with him - which at the point of the card game he had done in both times.
Now, I took it to mean that they were testing to see how much he was regaining, and yes his prolonged exposure to electromagnetism may make it harder for him to fully "come back".

Basic indeed,
I personally would have bled valve B9 first and then tried switching
the roto-girder to backup, while bypassing the Telnet comm and
hitting CTRL+ALT+DELETE.
Usually works for me.
